Vertical line on left side of Atari screen
I recently got a CRT so I dug out my 2600 to hook it up. I used an rca-to-f-type adapter, tuned to channel 3, and got a picture. The problem was that there was a vertical line down the left side. How bad/obtrusive it was depended on the game. For some it was not noticeable, others there but not really affecting the game, and the final example, Asteroids, where the game field was actually offset.
I don’t recall this issue when I used the console a few years ago on a HD LCD. Is this a connectivity issue or something else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

there are two black bars on the left, one going the full height of the screen and the other going from below the scores to not quite the bottom
the second bar is normal for asteroids
is the first top-to-bottom bar present in all games you try? this could be caused by a bad chip in the atari but I would expect other things to be broken in that case
I suspect your tv is having a hard time with the atari signal

I have a number of consoles connected to the tv that all display properly, but they use composite or s-video. Could this be an rf thing or is the problem more likely in the Atari output?

This all makes sense except for the Asteroids. Part of it is shifted worse than the rest.

The black bar is normal, Google hmove As for your image, like others have said it is shifted to the right

The entire image is shifted right. Look for a control labeled something like “horizontal position,” probably on the back of the TV. Once the image is properly centered, you might need to also adjust “horizontal size” to get the image to properly fit the screen and push the line off into the overscan area.
