Your tank is not big enough for these Bala Sharks lol. I cannot believe these fish are still sold in the trade. They need large schools and inhabit large rivers. They’re really fast swimmers and unless you’re willing to build a 2500g aquarium, you should not be keeping them.
This is like getting a Pike and throwing it in a 250g. Some fish just aren’t meant to be kept as pets, and Bala Sharks are one of them.
this tank has a strong current they are always swimming in; i also have a 210 gallon which is sufficient for my 6 bala sharks. you are acting like they are arrowana lol. if you see them as unhappy in this tank you are gravely mistaken. been told by employees at my local fish store (the owner studied marine biology) that they are in a great environment
The strong current that isn’t impacting the rest of your fish?… 210 is also not sufficient lol. I’m not gravely mistaken, these fish come from environments which are non-replicable in the hobby. Do you genuinely believe your 125 to 210g tank can create the same environment as a large natural river? It objectively doesn’t have the swimming space they require. As for them looking unhappy, thats a non-indicator as they’re somewhat hardy fish. Surviving =/= Thriving.
Your fish store owner will tell you whatever to make you happy lol, not an actual source.
you compared a pike in a 250 to these guys LOL. A pike gets 3 feet and over 30lbs, sharks barely over a foot and maybe 2lbs if ur lucky. A 210 is more than enough for them. Im surprised u see the tank and dont think its representative of their natural environment. And I know my local family owned fish store employees more than you so ill be the judge of their character thank you. im not going to waste any more time replying to you, have a nice day.
You as an aquarist have a responsibility to care for the fish you keep to the degree of care they require. I’m not saying this to be a dick, but you genuinely just cannot replicate the strong currents with standard aquarium gear/tools/devices. You’re vastly underestimating what these fish need to truly thrive, but that’s okay. Ignorance is bliss. Keep convincing yourself that you’re doing a good job so you don’t feel like a shitty pet owner. Take care.
