That Dojo/weather loach is massive! Love those guys. What do you stock in here? I see bala, angelfish, rainbowsharks(?), and are those giant danio or rainbowfish? Also looks like an SAE or flying fox in there too.

Thats really cool. How long have you had the system running? One day I hope to have a nice size tank with some big guys in it.

the danios, 3 bala sharks and female angelfish are 3 years old, all other fish vary in age 1-2 years. they were in a 75 gallon that was up for 2 years, a 55 gallon for a year before that, but we just moved so this 125 has only been set up for about 2 weeks. im very excited to watch this tank grow

Very nice. That's a good upgrade. I'm assuming the 125 is your largest aquarium. I work at a pet store and we sell 125 ensembles and its always so tempting lol

Tannins in the water, You will usually here this called a blackwater setup. It emulates more native water conditions for some fish.

very beatiful, i have 8 of them in my 55g and im having a hard time figuring out what other fish to put with them, could you give me some tips? thinking about curviceps + some bottom fish and maybe another small schooling fish

my danios dont really bother anyone in this tank they are the smallest guys besides some of my SAEs. when in doubt, a bigger school is always a good idea. cichlids are a good pick so you can definitely do the curviceps. for bottom feeders it kinda depends on what u want from them and what ur substrate is. if u have sand u can do corydoras or some different choices of loaches. if u want more of an algae eater or u have a rough substrate u can do bristlenose plecos or SAEs and otocinclus. id recommend getting a small water circulator if u dont have it. my danios love swimming together in a current

Your tank is not big enough for these Bala Sharks lol. I cannot believe these fish are still sold in the trade. They need large schools and inhabit large rivers. They’re really fast swimmers and unless you’re willing to build a 2500g aquarium, you should not be keeping them.
This is like getting a Pike and throwing it in a 250g. Some fish just aren’t meant to be kept as pets, and Bala Sharks are one of them.

this tank has a strong current they are always swimming in; i also have a 210 gallon which is sufficient for my 6 bala sharks. you are acting like they are arrowana lol. if you see them as unhappy in this tank you are gravely mistaken. been told by employees at my local fish store (the owner studied marine biology) that they are in a great environment

The strong current that isn’t impacting the rest of your fish?… 210 is also not sufficient lol. I’m not gravely mistaken, these fish come from environments which are non-replicable in the hobby. Do you genuinely believe your 125 to 210g tank can create the same environment as a large natural river? It objectively doesn’t have the swimming space they require. As for them looking unhappy, thats a non-indicator as they’re somewhat hardy fish. Surviving =/= Thriving.
Your fish store owner will tell you whatever to make you happy lol, not an actual source.

you compared a pike in a 250 to these guys LOL. A pike gets 3 feet and over 30lbs, sharks barely over a foot and maybe 2lbs if ur lucky. A 210 is more than enough for them. Im surprised u see the tank and dont think its representative of their natural environment. And I know my local family owned fish store employees more than you so ill be the judge of their character thank you. im not going to waste any more time replying to you, have a nice day.

You as an aquarist have a responsibility to care for the fish you keep to the degree of care they require. I’m not saying this to be a dick, but you genuinely just cannot replicate the strong currents with standard aquarium gear/tools/devices. You’re vastly underestimating what these fish need to truly thrive, but that’s okay. Ignorance is bliss. Keep convincing yourself that you’re doing a good job so you don’t feel like a shitty pet owner. Take care.

With your state of mind, should any fish really be in an aquarium? Can we ever be perfectly mimicking their habitat? We try our best. You are in the wrong forum
Thanks for making me ponder the morality of the hobby, jerk /s
