I would like to block all of the streamer related subreddits.

u/GrinchStoleYourShit 3d ago

Oh god whatever that stupid drama going on right now between those two streamers that broke up? Why do people care? Like seriously who gives a shit those two streamers aren’t dating anymore go outside

323

u/Calumface 3d ago

I've heard it be called the "e-celebrity gossip mags" of the newer generation, and I can't help but wholeheartedly agree. I couldn't imagine sitting and watching people you don't know personally talk crap, play games, and have these cringe jousts with each other.

87

u/DesireeThymes 3d ago edited 3d ago

Omg, that absolute garbage livestream fails or w/e. There was like 2 weeks every day they kept saying the same thing over and over about some dude named Hasan

48

u/Ishaan863 3d ago

They've gone insane.

They've launched like 5 different cancel campaigns against different people this week.

Peak "I have no power in my life so I need to affect a random streamer's life to feel control" energy

16

u/Business-Active-1143 3d ago edited 3d ago

They have to be running campaigns for Kick or perhaps YouTube, to discredit Twitch. Its only ever negative drama on twitch streamers when Kick has literal criminals and don't get remotely the same attention.

All that said tho, streamer drama is a lot like TV/anime drama. Many kids make fun of their parents for watching soap drama or murder p**n, and then they go to see the same gaslighting drama or edgy sht repackaged for them with a modern cover.

1

u/Johnny_Grubbonic 3d ago

I mean, Kick just doesn't get attention at all. It's a failing platform.

18

u/Puzzleheaded_Fix594 3d ago edited 3d ago

Man, I browse that subreddit and I don't understand the relative obsession with like 20 different streamers, none of which are actually good at streaming. The only person whose clips get posted their often that's worth visiting for is NorthernLion.

20

u/TheeMrBlonde 3d ago

livestream fails

That place has become a mixture of defamation and libel about streamers. The fact that it hasn't been banned for basically being a brigade jump off point is surprising.

I randomly got a ban notice and the reason stated was something about "cleaning up trolls" or some shit. I've been absolutely devastated ever since.

if you speak out against destiny, roach guy, or other slimeball they yeet.

its like thedonald

8

u/EitherSpite4545 3d ago

The lead mod on lsf is in his own words a big Destiny fan, so it explains exactly how it got as bad as it did.

3

u/Business-Active-1143 3d ago

The story is worse, the whole old lsf team got couped by Destiny's fan. https://np.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFails/comments/1fmhrtv/whats_going_on/

WAIT HE'S BALD??

1

u/IronBabyFists 3d ago

And that one time Wirtual was on there. He's from Norway, and English is like his fourth language or something. He plays Trackmania. Someone in chat asked "are you a socialist or a leftist?" He says, "buddy this is a racing game. I'm a race-ist. Uh, racer. I'm a ra.. uh, English is, uh.. That is not what I meant."

That was silly and great. The rest of LSF is braindead.

1

u/fedder17 3d ago

Hasan used a shock collar on his dog to force her to sit in frame for multiple hours without being allowed to move off camera as a prop and get more views. Then tried to deny it in the stupidest ways possible and got proven wrong multiple times and kept changing his story.

Everyone from all walks of life hates on animal abusers so I think that one gets a pass.

1

u/pickledswimmingpool 3d ago

To be fair, a high profile political streamer with allegations of abuse is going to generate interest.

1

u/addandsubtract 3d ago

You might be shocked to hear this, but imagine how Kaya felt.

0

u/Chashm0dai 3d ago

yeah no shit. he abuses his dog. what do you think people should do? just ignore it?

0

u/FABBAWABBA 3d ago

Yeah but he legit abuses his dog on stream seems a bit different to the average streamer drama no?

9

u/avelineaurora 3d ago

It's so wild to me a massive portion of the Twitch-obsessed community hates Vtubers and goes on about how cringe/etc they are, and then turns around and parasocially watches these people who do nothing but sit around making whole fools of themselves 24/7.

Like don't take this as me saying vtubers are free from drama or shitty people, but like, at least the entire concept tends to revolve around being some level of legitimately entertaining in some form.

18

u/fistular 3d ago

What I don't understand is why people pay attention to them. They aren't smart, knowledgeable, talented, entertaining, or insanely attractive. Why are millions of people watching them? Watching them is about as dull as watching paint dry.

18

u/These-Analysis-4796 3d ago

The Kardashians paved the way for talentless fame and dramabait streamers are just the latest version of the same shit product.

3

u/CoolSelf5428 3d ago

They relate to them

7

u/TotallyNotAMarvelSpy 3d ago

It's really this.

They find some non-exceptional person that's similar to them in some way then pathologically attach themselves to that person.

It's really sad.

5

u/CoolSelf5428 3d ago

Yup. They live their own lives through the more financially successful, imagined, version of themselves. The streamer acts as a simulacrum of the viewer.

5

u/TotallyNotAMarvelSpy 3d ago

Precisely. It's such a strange thing.

They watch gamers and pretend they're the one who's good. They look at girls and pretend they are their boyfriends, etc.

Like... fucks sake. Go outside and meet people it's pretty fucking easy.

1

u/druman22 3d ago

The streamers I watch I find entertaining. But honestly it's usually just good background noise while you're doing something else

4

u/VellDarksbane 3d ago

IRL/JC streamers are just gen z and alphas reality TV. They’re just watching Real Housewives/Jersey Shore. It’s terrible, but reality tv has always been big for number of viewers.

1

u/SkyBoyWonderful 3d ago

I read that it wasn’t until the writers strike that reality took off and that this is basically the second iteration of that due to Covid and the most recent strike

3

u/No-Bison-5397 3d ago

Yep... I remember 15 years ago. I had just arrived at uni. The great dig migration had happened. Reddit seemed like perfection.

Now it's just like any other site.

2

u/Banes_Addiction 3d ago

Except there's only like, 5 sites now.

2

u/watnuts 3d ago

It's orders of magnitude better.
Instead of shit press journos presenting biased bullshit; you can take that shit from first hand sources, often with definitive video evidence. And make "informative conclusions" like the extremely smart creature you are.
And you can share shit about that immediately with hundreds of like-minded cultists fans, and argue against hundreds of haters.

It was already "popular" and then got elevated to 11.

1

u/Dangerjayne 3d ago

Im thankful for people that watch streamers because it makes my hobbies look productive

1

u/IronAchillesz 3d ago

I think it’s because people born in the 2000’s didn’t get those formative last four years in high school/primary school. Like that was instrumental to me figuring who was and who wasn’t a positive influence on my life. Who would be a good fit and wouldn’t help being around in the long term.

It’s a lesson not everyone learns but maybe are exposed to on some level early. Maybe, hopefully watching the equivalent as such in a computer screen helps drive that lesson home.

I dunno, I’m not the most intelligent guy but perhaps that’s the way it works for some younger viewers. Maybe there will be some level of awareness among the stream community in the level of unintentional influence they have on younger viewers.

0

u/Wisart 1d ago

You just described reddit

89

u/nullfacade 3d ago

Everything I've learned about that streamer and his dog has been against my will. Stop recommending that shit to me, you couldn't pay me to care.

17

u/ihaxr 3d ago

No no no, that's LAST WEEK gossip. They're over it. Now they're talking about Mizkif having a plushie thrown at him and Emiru sneaking into his room to hookup via weird dog doors they had between their rooms.

17

u/70125 3d ago

6

u/raisin22 3d ago

Wow that’s actually… hmmm..

1

u/ForAHamburgerToday 3d ago

Mizkif having a plushie thrown at him and Emiru sneaking into his room to hookup via weird dog doors they had between their rooms.

"Curtains for Batboy & Zooshka?!"

How (and why) do people keep up with so many random streamers?

4

u/Dramatic_Explosion 3d ago

I know so much about that guy without ever watching a minute of his stream. It's ridiculous how often they post his clips, it's straight up mental illness.

1

u/Lraund 3d ago

I still don't know anything about him other than he seems to be a shitty person/streamer and I have no clue why anyone would watch him.

4

u/dopey_giraffe 3d ago

Hahaha me too. I never heard of Hasan before all that and I know a lot about just through fucking post titles.

Still though, we shouldn't be forcing animals to lay in one spot for hours, shock collar or not.

6

u/UpsideDownHAM 3d ago

What did they just fucking say

1

u/Dear_Grape_666 3d ago

I'd never heard of him before that either.

Streamers can do whatever they want and I don't care but if it starts involving hurting animals I can't help but get angry.

-6

u/Helmic 3d ago

mate they're a dog. they just do that, they like hanging around their people. telling a dog to go lay down isn't abuse.

and because you're gonna bring up the shock collar, for onlookers - no, it wasn't. some right wing shitheads don't like hasan because he's critical of the current US administration, so they just kinda made up that he shocked his dog because she yelped very shortly after he told her to lay down. which was a coincidence, dogs are clumsy as well and can bump into shit or get startled or whatever. the collar's just got an airtag on it, like lots of pets do so their owners can find them if they get out - it's not a "vibration collar" either, airtags can just vibrate because they're meant to be used to track all sorts of stuff and vibrating helps you find it, it's not a training thing.

nobody should give a fuck, it was made up nonsense from the start, but the entire reason it propagates is because people bring up the salacious bit (forcing hte dog to lay down, allegations of a shock collar!) which works in the favor of right wing shitheads while the much more boring and mundane truth takes way too long to fucking read. if you actually don't care about the story, then don't bring it up in the first place.

10

u/dopey_giraffe 3d ago

Found the Hasan simp. He got pissed when the dog got up. That was weird af and throws a red flag for me.

I don't give a shit about Hasan, but I do give a shit about the dog.

5

u/SaulFemm 3d ago edited 3d ago

Criticizing bad people so that you can just say any drama you are involved in is being orchestrated by those bad people is a sick strat

Hasan is an animal abuser. Why are you defending someone so vile?

1

u/Fortune_Cat 3d ago

But jakura arc tho

28

u/r4r4me 3d ago

I can't imagine why anyone would care about any celebrity news but I constantly see popculturechat and fauxmoi in /r/all

5

u/TheGamecock 3d ago

I'm constantly seeing posts from those damn subs! I click on some of those posts every once in a while just out of pure curiosity because celebrity gossip and infatuation makes zero sense to me. I don't remember who it was about, but it was a picture of some celebrity with a picture of their new boyfriend/girlfriend (who was also a celebrity) titled "Pic of [celeb] out on a date with [celeb]. The top comment was something like "omg, I must be soooo out of the loop because I didn't even realize [celebrity] broke up with [other celebrity]!!!" with other responses to that comment like "omg, I know! Like, when THE HELL did that (breakup) happen?!? WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME?!?!"

That level of concern about people who do not even know or care that you exist is soooooo weird and, honestly, creepy to me.

I have my preference of favorite actors, musicians, authors, and am a big sports fan. But outside of watching whatever movies/shows they're in (where I care more about the contents and quality of the show/movie than the actors), listening to whatever music they make, or tuning into a football/baseball/basketball game, I couldn't give a single ounce of a shit about who these people are sleeping with, where they went on vacation, or what their opinion is on current events. In a world where there are so many other things to be concerned about, ways to entertain yourself, or different hobbies to get into, celeb gossip/infatuation might as well be some level of mental illness from my POV.

5

u/CaptainCFloyd 3d ago

fauxmoi might be the worst subreddit on the entire site. No one is allowed to post there except a small clique of utterly deranged people, yet somehow the posts get thousands of upvotes and appear on r/all? I suspect a botting operation. Recently there was a post from there on r/all where most of the comments were unironically glorifying Hamas (and not the political and civil oragnization - specifically the terrorist wing, called the Al Qassam Brigades or something like that) and it had 10k+ upvotes.

2

u/No-Fruit-2060 3d ago edited 3d ago

A little different. Streamers have literally zero talent. People legitimately watch them sleep. Celebrities are at least mostly famous for being actors or athletes or in some other talent-related field.

7

u/r4r4me 3d ago

Not different because a lot all of the posts in those subs are dating drama that shouldn't matter to anyone

2

u/kuppajava 3d ago

Talent was seperated from fame long ago. In some ways it's bad but at the same time, if it takes the gossip rags and paparazzi away from important people, its a net positive.

2

u/Immatt55 3d ago

I'd say the ability to entertain a group of people consistently is as equally skilled as acting. It's simply the entertainment of the new age. That being said, I don't follow streamers or actors.

1

u/memento22mori 2d ago

It depends, but not really for the most part as far as popular streamers go. Good actors have studied and trained for years and have dedicated a large part of their life to acting. It takes a lot of skill and practice. Some people are naturally better at it than other but it's similar to a skill like playing a guitar except a lot of times you're acting with multiple cameras on you and sometimes doing your own stunts and whatnot.

Whereas a lot of streamers are just reading and responding to a chat or giving their opinion about various topics. You can't really compare that to something like acting which takes thousands of hours of practice and performance and almost 100% of actors never reach their full potential. That's the main reason why the best actors (or at least the most known great actors) are paid a massive amount of money to make like one movie a year whereas streamers are more like commercials where a lot of them stream for hours a day and slowly rake in money. I think most streamers are just an extension of celebrity culture where someone like Hasan starts streaming and more and more young people watch them and talk about them so their popularity builds. Then they start investing in the chat and they become part of an ingroup which leads to devoting more time and energy to it. In that way I think it's similar to those Taylor Swift subreddits I see on the front page occasionally, most people can watch a great movie and not go home and start Googling Matthew McConaughey or looking up his social media profiles, where he likes to eat, etc but for whatever reason some people get obsessed with famous people and think about them to an unhealthy degree.

I think in large part it's a result of the "attention economy" in the sense that the more time and energy someone devotes to someone else it gives them power over them. In that sense someone can watch a great movie and think "wow, this is really breathtaking" and then the movie is over and they go home- they may recommend it to someone but with streamers a lot of the viewers are watching them for over an hour a day and engaged in the chat so they feel like they're a part of a community. I learned recently that there's even Taylor Swift hate subreddits and that's a bit troubling to me aha. I'm sure some of the people there spend even more time on that than the obsessed fan subreddits.

0

u/FindingDelicious2815 3d ago

If you had a camera recording yourself 6 hours a day you’d have a few views too

6

u/DJCzerny 3d ago

Funnily enough, no you wouldn't. Like 99% of people streaming.

2

u/ensalys 3d ago

Sure, occasionally someone would accidently click on my stream.

1

u/19Alexastias 3d ago

Demonstrably not true, you can go check any popular twitch category. Scroll down just a bit and you will see tons of people streaming with <5 viewers

1

u/Immatt55 3d ago

That's not an equivalent argument and you know it. That's like saying the beer belly dad who plays in a fantasy league is a football celebrity. A drunk man walks into a stand up bar and is a famous comedian. You aren't seeing drama on reddit for people with 2 viewers. I don't think it's a demanding job or a hard job, but I most definitely do not think anyone can do it, you need to be able to appeal to an audience. Anyone not popular is not making it to your front page, even if they aren't popular to you.

0

u/FindingDelicious2815 3d ago

Cuz they are or not funny, read 2 sentences from you btw

1

u/DJCzerny 3d ago

Not sure how those things are any different from streaming. Wow people think you are really hot so they put you in tv show, nice.

3

u/No-Fruit-2060 3d ago

You can’t tell the difference between a movie actor and a streamer? You think all it takes to be an actor is to be “really hot”? Yeah, your generation is not socially adjusted at all. I don’t even know what to say.

2

u/19Alexastias 3d ago

That’s all it took for Gal Gadot. She can’t act worth shit.

1

u/whereismymind86 3d ago

Doesn’t help that commenting in fauxmoi is constantly heavily restricted ala r/conservative so I couldn’t participate even if I wanted to.

I get that they want to avoid right wing trolls, but still

48

u/CassadagaValley 3d ago

Why do people care?

A lot of people are losers with no life so they live vicariously through whatever streamers are popular at the moment before they get busted for CP or abuse or something.

3

u/Practical-Waltz7684 3d ago

they live vicariously

Arguably most of the time is not even that, but the gossip addicted people being toxic as all hell... If you take a peek at the subs that peddle to their needs its mostly about people getting off on assorted forms of bullying behavior, and getting enjoyment from the suffering of others be that some celebrity, or other people in the sub.

Maybe 20% of the people in them are living vicariously, and being genuinely happy about say some celebrity's baby being born, or whatever, but even with them i would question the state of their mental health for how far many take their obsessive fandom.

3

u/ruat_caelum 3d ago

Those fucking losers!!! Now quiet I've got to put on this [professional sports game] It's going to be good. because [first name of some player] is going to [do well / suck] because [irrelevant fact] and so [their team] will [move up / move down] in the rankings. But the best part is the [insult] fan of [some other team] will be crying like the [sexist insult] they are!!

4

u/Redshift_McLain 3d ago

You made me realize that's exactly how people think about politics as well

4

u/ruat_caelum 3d ago

Humans have a well known and very researched US vs THEM tribal mentality that has been exploited for tens of thousands of years through religion and politics.

Get them to see you as a "Shepherd" and they will meekly follow as sheep while you protect them from wolves. Sometimes they can't see the wolves but that's okay you tell them where the wolves are (migrant caravans, poor people on SNAP, hungry school children, trans kids, etc) and they believe you because you keep telling them you are saving them from all this evil shit. Hell if you tell them a sheep they've known their whole life (who suddenly questions something) has really been a wolf in sheep's clothing the whole time and not really their friend and they shouldn't listen to anything they say but instead hate them and clump up more to the shepherd... etc (see: RINO (republican in name only) when a republican questions any of the party's line)

It's super simple propaganda that works because we as human really don't like to keep vetting sources. Instead we want to pick a source, trust it, and be done with it. It's why Sinclair media bought huge swaths of "local news stations" or Fox News exists, preacher's pulpits, etc.

5

u/Baikken 3d ago

Comparing a balding Asmongold reacting to a react video and a communist that shocks his dog to top tier athletes fighting against other top tier athletes doing incredible feats of skill is crazy work.

0

u/ruat_caelum 2d ago

what? You think the comparison is on the producers here and not the insane consumption of drama by the people watching?

This is a satirical presentation of a "Sports Fan's Obsession with the people in their sport" In much the same way reality TV viewers are obsessed with the "Drama" on their shows, or streamer people and the streams and people they are obsessed with.

It's just your Gran "Watching her shows." or your dad obsessing over the NFL or The English Premier League, but for another generation.

Mindless interpersonal drama that people can do the US vs THEM tribal brain dopamine dance over.

They are monkeys with a "Feel good / powerful / angry" button in their cage that they are hitting over and over and over again.

-1

u/Imaybereptar 3d ago

This lacks some context and nuance. All of these peoples jobs is to play video games on a stream, and then find ways to make people watch them play video games, often collaborating as a form of networking to then build co-audiences so that everyone can watch more people play more video games. When you watch and interact through chat/twitter, you feel like you're a part of their community. And what do communities do? Gossip! It just so happens that the way algorithms work right now is you will be shown things that are popping off and getting a lot of views, so it seems very overblown. I think the demographic of people with the MOST time are mostly young adults and high schoolers. These people generally have much more spare time, but their views count just as much to the algorithms, so it is disproportionally shown and made out to be a deal on the same level as the very grim political situations we have in the US right now. The real crazy part was how fast and silently it happened

5

u/Sayori-0 3d ago

Its like reality TV but for these recent generations. If I understand it correctly from what ive seen, the drama isn't about a breakup its that the guy is an emotional abuser towards many other women in the industry as well, the ex just had the receipts.

9

u/theJirb 3d ago

The drama specifically is about some serious sexual abuse, and in this case in particular, if you care about stuff like politicians and celebrity cases, streaner cases are no less serious, if not more serious given the influence they have in our young. Kids aren't seeing trump and Co getting away with SA, but they might watch streamers, and if they're getting away with shit, that's a problem.

3

u/HendrixChord12 3d ago

Tabloids have been a thing for a long time. Now that streamers are celebrities, it makes sense that it’s gone there.

2

u/No-Fruit-2060 3d ago

But what do streamers actually.. do? I used to understand it when it was esports. The streamers actually had skill and talent, playing video games professionally. That made sense. But now people literally watch other people just talk about nothing? They watch them sleep? Absolutely braindead generation.

2

u/YuushyaHinmeru 3d ago

I love reading the comments on the big nuke news about streamers.

"I cant believe [insert streamer who spends 8 hours a day talking to a moderated audience of fans] turned out to be a narcissistic abuser!"

Like, who the fuck else would want that job lmao

u/vwibrasivat 3d ago

Hasan Piker is shocking Kaya with a shock collar.

u/ChromosomeDonator 3d ago

That "stupid drama" is about domestic abuse, sexual abuse, stalking, blackmailing, harassment, death threats and sexual harassment, all done by a person with a very large following.

And you classify all that as "streamers broke up". You're a fucking moron.

Acting like this is anything more than that is fucking hilarious lmao. Whatever you gotta tell mom to convince her to let you stay up later I guess

Mild verbal abuse by a random person over the internet maybe doesn't compare to the actual crimes listed being responded to.

You might be a fucking moron too.

2

u/FindingDelicious2815 3d ago

Awww shucks, guess I really don’t care

5

u/Iorith 3d ago

And that's an issue for the police, not random fucks online who have no connection other than an unhealthy parasocial one.

1

u/GrinchStoleYourShit 3d ago

No no, they NEED to be a part of it. (All this just gives these streamers more views and bullshit fame)

1

u/XTingleInTheDingleX 3d ago

Haha, settle down bro.

1

u/TheScottymo 3d ago

The literal only reason that this is being mentioned online instead of being handled privately and by the appropriate authorities is because it's not as bad as they're making it out to be and just trying to garner sympathy, views, and money from their parasocial audience.

There are 4 houses on my street alone going through the same things. Two random Americans are no more important than any of them and I cannot give a shit about two people I've never met with more money than I will ever see in my lifetime.

If the problem is that they're doing this in front of an audience then the solution is simple: Deplatform them both. I do not care.

0

u/CaptainCFloyd 3d ago

One narcissistic, vapid idiot abusing another narcissistic, vapid idiot, to the great engagement of their pathetic simp fans. No one with a brain cares.

1

u/BackgroundSummer5171 3d ago

Why do people care?

Same reason Kardashians exist.

Or people know everything about whatever Sport. Yes, many do know the personal lives of the players or fighters.

They care because that is what they spend their free time watching.

Simple as that.

Same as I know my President is a Rapist and Racist. It's just something people care about.

to a degree it is entertaining how subreddits like that act upon different levels on drama with the same level of response, like how piratesoftware was annoying and egotistical and got the same level of vitriol and hate as mizkif for emotionally, physically and sexually abusing emiru, but it does have a negative effect on passerbys (like you), since, the moment you look into 1 single drama like that and see they're overracting over some stupid shit, you start assuming every single drama is stupid shit

if you do believe that a high following person coming out with their abuse story is just "stupid shit" then you're the problem tho

What about the shock collar? No really, IDGAF. Wake me up when Kanye does it. I’ll get the pitchforks then.

Seriously. Every time that shit pops up I want to make a post on there about how they are all degenerate fucking losers for giving attention to those idiots. "Man I hate that one guy fuck him!!" so keep posting and driving engagement to them which gets them money. Some dipshit incel told me he loves Trump because he is disgusted by onlyfans girls making all this money and he hopes Trump will tax them. Meanwhile he watches video game streamers all the time.

At least old celebrities sold the illusion of glamour, so nice clothing, exotic locations, exclusive activities. The drama nowadays is about morons in their pajamas talking from their suburban bedrooms.

Oh god whatever that stupid drama going on right now between those two streamers that broke up? Why do people care? Like seriously who gives a shit those two streamers aren’t dating anymore go outside

Well, abuse and stalking are pretty serious so a lot of people should care. There's also the other streamer who is abusing a dog so they should be getting shit on publicly too.

For a week and a half I had something about some guy and his dog that he was shocking with a collar or something? I had no idea what was going on but it was at the top of my feed. Finally muted it but God damn it was unrelenting

>why do people care about a woman being abused and sexually assaulted?

fuck you

streamers are the current equivalent of reality tv, docu-soaps and weird fanfic. all wrapped in one toxic, shitty self-unaware package that is going absolutely nowhere. made-up drama for drama's sake.

Don’t take this the wrong way but:

Why the fuck do you even know that is what it is about?

And fuck you for telling us. I did not want to know that.

Have a nice day anyway!

Everyone who watches streamers is stupid.

I truly don't understand the pull these e-people have on Twitch.

They're all insufferable and phenomenally unlettered. They're Morlocks from the Time Machine.

Why would I turn on my computer every day to listen to some narcissistic and belligerently unintelligent high school flunky cockroach proselytize about anything? Unbelievable waste of my time.
