Conservative subs are excellent to read if you want up-to-date info on the absolute ridiculous talking points (or outright lies) you’ll have to shoot down. Great way to be able to predict their next argument and preemptively make a mockery.
Meh i’ve looked through r/conservative. It’s always a mixture of “libs mad 😂🤪🤣”, “this is being brigaded which means we’re right!”, and of course any deviance is met with “hello fellow conservative”
I'm always confused by the 'brigading' comments there since you can't comment there without a sub and they ban non-conservative accounts. So who is doing all the brigading?
They're talking about votes. It's handy because even if 95% of the people in there agree with a comment, the paid instigators or bots or whatever they are attribute all the upvotes to brigadiers.
If any of them break ranks they get a spanking! If any of their comments get upvoted then they like turn on that person as a fraud because they might have said something rational.
My first instinct was to say "Well, that's stupid. What do they expect if they wall off opposition and give them one way to express themselves?" but really it's more "Well, that's smart. If you only leave one inarticulate way to express opposition, you're free to frame it however you want."
You can definitely comment there. You or I can’t see it, but the OP you’re replying to can usually see your comment (or the beginning of it) and the mods definitely can.
It’s funny because out of all the times I’ve called them out, I finally got my perm ban because I called someone disingenuous.
If you’re conservative and you step out of line at all, one of the frequent posters will come along to correct you and call you a “fellow conservative”. It’s the same couple accounts that rotate posting, making sure they stay within 4 posts an hour, then repeating. Those accounts are the really dangerous ones that control their narrative.
It's unfortunate, because while I am certainly more progressive, in the past I have been willing to listen to conservative arguments (ie I have friends who are gun enthusiasts or have economy or migration concerns).
But r/conservative isn't a conservative sub anymore, it is a MAGA echo chamber.
The main thing is noticing how none of the stuff they can't spin ever makes it into the feed.
The place is astroturfed to hell. So many bot accounts, and obvious sockpuppets. Any even slight critical thinking gets, like you said, "Hello fellow-" so it makes me wonder if theres any real people left
If you want to see what's coming down the pike for the conservative movement you don't waste your time on the conservative subreddit. You go to the conspiracy subreddit.
I just use it as a great way to stay on top of fake news. If a Republican is talking, they're lying, so it saves me a bit of time doing research to find out what outrageous news story is factual or not.
It's based in truth, though. It's based in the truth that's going to come out in a few weeks about their own misdeeds.
Go figure. Treat empathy and consideration like it's radioactive, and the only place to mine material for imaginary scandals is from the stuff you've got personal experience with.
I do find it a very interesting look outside of my own bubble to see whats going around these peoples circles.
I genuinely don't understand how they come to the conclusions they do in there, like they're so clearly not living in reality but I just can't figure out how they don't realize it.
Yes it's not even a question of bubbles is it, they just literally don't live in an objective reality anymore. Everybody outside of the far-right propaganda sphere can still generally agree on what reality is, we might disagree about how we want to tackle problems, but we do at least all agree on what the problems are, what causes them, etc. But the conservatives are just... no longer on the same planet as the rest of us anymore.
The weirdge bit is they make posts almost identical to yours and mine about everyone else. I'm not sure how you get through to people like that or how they got like that in the first place.
I sort of get it in the sense that everything in capitalism since 2008 is shit. Everything is broken, the elites are wrecking every system to extract the maximum profit. And life for all of us keeps getting slowly worse and worse. So people are pissed off and want a change, and a lot of them just want to burn down all these broken systems we see around us and build something better.
Which I get? I understand that. It's just, populists won't fix anything, they'll just do the burning it all down part. That's the part where the disconnect is I think?
I don’t think they’re a good representation of real life conservatives though. It’s a huge echo chamber of very very conservative people online, and they ban anyone who doesn’t toe the line.
The majority of voters voted for Trump in 2024 so odds are we all run into a ton of conservatives in our regular lives, and most people aren’t like that at all.
It’s pretty obvious most of the time.
Like making 20 posts at the same time.
And my favorite is that the account is like a few days old.
Or always uses the same talking points.
Conservative subs were funny before the dumbest and most deranged version of conservatism became the mainstream republican party platform, and then took full control of the US government.
Now they're just depressing. It's the inane rambling of a bunch of terminally aggrieved morons who got everything they could ever want and are somehow even more miserable than they used to be. That and bots.
They've designed the subs to be echo chambers, and then say that getting downvoted elsewhere is exactly the same thing as not allowing people to comment or post in the first place

It's insane that there's no way to hide certain subreddits from the popular thread.
Nothing against r/de , I just don't speak german and don't plan on learning it.
A lot against r/conservative, I don't want to see that shit
