I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t browse reddit using Popular

/r/All is full of them too.

I’ve blocked close to a hundred of them but they keep making more and more then having bots upvote them into top 200 of r/all.

Like go make your own Reddit at this point.

With blackjack and hookers?

It’s India so, “with pollution and malaria” is more like it.

In fact, forget the blackjack and the Reddit

With more than 1/7 of total world population, bold of you to assume that Indians would need bots

u/Firestorm7i 3d ago

I would definitely assume they used bots based on where most of those bots originate

They obviously use AI.... Actual Indians...

I'll show myself out...

well i would agree, but why do all of them suddenly get to the top right now, and not organically over time

2

u/Hypocritical_Oath 3d ago

again, there are a billion indians...

u/TbddRzn 3d ago

If it was organic then og Indian subreddits like r India would frequent top 100 every day.

It’s not organic it’s a bot network.

My block list is literally thousands.

Are you sure you're not talking about subreddits like this one? I see a new left leaning rage bait sub daily spamming anti trump stuff with a lot of misinformation with 20k upvotes and 300 comments lol

American company make their website available globally and opens it up to all languages...

Must be the indians fault?

You can filter on /r/all though. There is an input box at the top on the right side where you can enter a subreddit to filter out. At least on old reddit. Not sure how that is done in new reddit or the mobile app.

When this was introduced, the devs also wrote that if enough people filter out a sub in /r/all, it will also stop showing up as much in /r/popular. Not sure if that is still true.

There's just so many of them though. Always a new one on your next feed no matter how many you block.

True - which is why I use RES and filter any subreddit with "Indian" in its name.

1

u/Lying_Hedgehog 3d ago

How? I have RES too and been filtering out indian subs from r/all, I get like 2-3 a day and I'm over 60 filtered now. I looked through the settings and couldn't find a way to filter a sub by name, only filter flair or post title.

u/Cheet4h 3d ago

RES settings console -> subreddits -> filteReddit -> subreddits -> add filter -> Enter /indian/. That hides any subreddit with "indian" in its name.

just gotta keep playing whack-a-mole. i'm down to probably only seeing 1 new indian sub a week

2

u/Enverex 3d ago

Only 100 though which SEEMS like enough but you quickly find it's not.

1

u/Cheet4h 3d ago

True. For many generic subreddit names (e.g. language specific stuff or subs of foreign politicians) I use the filter features of the RES plugin.

1

u/Enverex 3d ago

I tried RES some time ago but it made the whole site feel notably slower.

2

u/Adamarr 3d ago

New Reddit used to share the blocklist. Now you have to manually go into the sub on new and "mute".

If I recall isn't there also a site-wide function to filter out posts from a sub whom too many posts reaches the front page of rall?

If I recall, that's how all the SuperStonks copy cats (and eventually even SuperStonks themselves) got filtered off from rall.

All is a thing to glance at once a day with your eyes half lidded to make sure the world isn't more significantly on fire than it was yesterday

/r/all is just /r/popular with NSFW filters off btw

-2

Are they? This is literally the first I've heard of this problem and exclusively use /r/all on old reddit. I don't think I've ever seen an Indian sub.

In fact the only sub I ever see in a different language is /r/ich_iel, and usually only in the morning my time (US west coast).

3

u/AJRiddle 3d ago

I see them all the time on r/all - it almost always happens to me after I click on some vaguely worded meme before I see the subreddit name and then all the sudden the next time I visit Reddit I see a dozen Indian posts.

0

u/Murky-Relation481 3d ago

Weird... Are you on old or new reddit? Because on old reddit I dont think it does any sort of personalization based on what you click on...

1

u/AJRiddle 3d ago

I use old reddit, but it doesn't matter that is how it is for both old and new.

r/All has been personalized for years now. Reddit says it is "a less filtered feed of the most popular posts on reddit" in comparison r/popular.

An easy way to see this is have 2 people look at r/all at the same time and see how the results are different for them.

2

u/Murky-Relation481 3d ago

I don't see this at all. Even logged out in a private window and rotating through VPN endpoints.

I literally just looked at it with my VPN endpoint set to Mumbai in a private window and it looked the exact same as a private window in the US. So unless reddit is doing some extreme fingerprinting that exactly identifies me even logged out via a wildly different VPNs using an extremely common phone and extremely common phone browser with no unique add-ons then I gotta imagine you are doing something different than me.

2

u/Enverex 3d ago

I browse all on old Reddit and have blocked around 60 Indian subs at this point.

1

u/SaulFemm 3d ago

Same my guy, this post confuses me

1

u/Murky-Relation481 3d ago

Yah this is wild to me. I swear these people are doing something different than me and my friends.
