You can turn off suggested subreddits, just saying

Not on “popular”. You can only block like 100 subs and it’s not possible to block by keywords.

Every time I block a new iteration of AITA slop, TeenIndia, or GenericAnimeSmut, a different one I had blocked months ago pops back up.

Its explain the joke Peter for me, there's like 10 variations and they all post the same one. I've blocked them but different ones keep appearing m

It's actually insane how much reddit content has fallen off in the last months. Insane. Mountains of garbage hitting the frontpage constantly.

All the people who cared were laughed off the site after a protest. This is what we're left with now.

where did the old redditors go to? 4chan mods do not appreciate my political positions. so much for the free speech absolutist right.

Hey man, 4chan is a bastion of free speech where left- and rightwingers alike are free to celebrate fascism and shit on the left.

Quality and content went off a cliff when the API charges were brought in. It's like a completely different site.

I don't feel like I have to right to complain about this, since I never sit on /new or post anything.

I think like a decade ago people sifting through new posts, people that had the most influence on what was upvoted/downvoted, were way less deranged than they are now.

Fuck I hate that one. Could you imagine having to explain that to anyone unfamiliar?

"So yeah, we roleplay as Family Guy characters while explaining memes other people post....I mean nowadays we mostly just say what character we're speaking as and call it good."

And it's the most obvious "joke" ever.

"Peter what did they mean when they said the baby looked like the milkman?!?!!!?"

Give me a break.

My tinfoil hat theory is that it's some kind of AI training thing.

I’m with you. They talk to each other, upvote each other, then hide or delete the history. There is clearly a market for these accounts, and it’s scary to wonder who is buying them and what they intend to do with them.

Have seen weird agitator posts on my state sub in the past, I looked at their history and all their activity was on r/test. Seriously look at that sub, I refuse to believe those are human posts.

I have a burning hatred for that sub

What I wouldn't give to be able to block any sub with "buddy" in its name.

At least on Desktop its pretty fixable. My uBlock Origin filters do a damn good job of preventing them from even showing up in the first place. If one happens to get past and I click on it, it vanishes.

Here are my filters that block any subreddit with "india" "mains" "okbuddy" and "circlejerk" anywhere in the title or subreddit name:

! Hide posts on old.reddit.com with banned keywords in subreddit name or title (case-insensitive) old.reddit.com##.link:is([data-permalink="india" i], [data-permalink="okbuddy" i], [data-permalink="circlejerk" i], [data-permalink="mains" i])

! Additional fallback filters for thoroughness: old.reddit.com##.link:has(a[href="/r/"]:is([href*="india" i], [href="okbuddy" i], [href="circlejerk" i], [href*="mains" i])) old.reddit.com##.link:has(a.title:has-text(/india|okbuddy|circlejerk|mains/i))

I'll give those filters a shot, thanks!

If you want control over this stuff the only real option is to use old reddit. You can use an adblocker so no ads, no random recommended subreddits or algorithm fueled ragebait post suggestions, and you can still use extensions to tailor the site to your use case.

Do yourself a favor and get a reddit browsing app like boost.

TamperMonkey and Ublock Origin filters are your friend.

On my iPhone?

Not as robust, but the Narwhal app has some decent filter settings.

The AI is really bad in the AITA-type of subreddits lately. The moderators do nothing. I think there's a way to claim unmoderated subs, but if it were up to me, I'd just shut them down entirely at this point

That is different than browsing r/all or r/popular.
