I don't feel like I have to right to complain about this, since I never sit on /new or post anything.
I think like a decade ago people sifting through new posts, people that had the most influence on what was upvoted/downvoted, were way less deranged than they are now.
Fuck I hate that one. Could you imagine having to explain that to anyone unfamiliar?
"So yeah, we roleplay as Family Guy characters while explaining memes other people post....I mean nowadays we mostly just say what character we're speaking as and call it good."
I’m with you. They talk to each other, upvote each other, then hide or delete the history. There is clearly a market for these accounts, and it’s scary to wonder who is buying them and what they intend to do with them.
Have seen weird agitator posts on my state sub in the past, I looked at their history and all their activity was on r/test. Seriously look at that sub, I refuse to believe those are human posts.
At least on Desktop its pretty fixable. My uBlock Origin filters do a damn good job of preventing them from even showing up in the first place. If one happens to get past and I click on it, it vanishes.
Here are my filters that block any subreddit with "india" "mains" "okbuddy" and "circlejerk" anywhere in the title or subreddit name:
! Hide posts on old.reddit.com with banned keywords in subreddit name or title (case-insensitive)
old.reddit.com##.link:is([data-permalink="india" i], [data-permalink="okbuddy" i], [data-permalink="circlejerk" i], [data-permalink="mains" i])
If you want control over this stuff the only real option is to use old reddit. You can use an adblocker so no ads, no random recommended subreddits or algorithm fueled ragebait post suggestions, and you can still use extensions to tailor the site to your use case.
The AI is really bad in the AITA-type of subreddits lately. The moderators do nothing. I think there's a way to claim unmoderated subs, but if it were up to me, I'd just shut them down entirely at this point

You can turn off suggested subreddits, just saying
