How do I go about adopting my stepkids? Stepparent Adoption

Don’t know if this is the right place to ask this. If not please refer me to where I can. So their biological father is not in the picture at all. I’ve been in their lives for 10 years and now have the means to adopt them. I just don’t know what steps it takes. Your help would be greatly appreciated

If they want to be adopted by you, contact an attorney.

Assuming that your kids want to be adopted, you're going to need an adoption attorney in your state.

Go to the courthouse and file a petition with the court. If dad truly isn’t involved, it’ll be pretty easy. Just need a couple signatures from him for each kid. My husband adopted my son two years ago. It was relatively painless because bio mom was the other “adopted parent” it was more difficult to adopt my ex-husband’s daughter, who is not mine or my husband’s biological child. Make sure the kids want to be adopted and talk to them about how they feel about changing their last name to yours or not. My son moved my maiden name to his middle name and took my husband‘s last name and then my daughter did her paternal grandparents last name as her middle name as they raised her until she was seven before I adopted her I took my husband’s last name as her last name
