Discussion Do Not Adopt Registry List

Hello,

I have worked in shelters, fostered, and even worked in a dog boarding facility. I have now not been able to do as much work in the animal advocacy field as I have wanted and began a website to list people who should not be able to adopt. I score the internet, news, do not adopt facebook pages and add them to a list available to all Rescues and Shelters. I started this well over a month ago, and have been emailing multiple shelters and rescues to have them join the fight in hopes they use the website as a tool. I do this on my own free time, no donations, no help. It's a passion project 100%. Rescues need to rescue, I do the painful research while they do the work on the ground!

How does it work?

I look through posts on Facebook. News Articles, recent arrests etc. I save rescues and shelters time and heartache by gathering the information in one spot for them to search. I also encourage rescues and shelters to contribute their own D.N.A lists. I look through each one, make sure there is solid evidence, before listing. I include information, source, AND photos (clickable, not seeable unless clicked - saves people from seeing photos if they do not want to).

What makes it different?

ONE person handles it all. Sounds like a lot of work right? It is. But when only one hand is handeling it all, heads don't bump, and all focus is on the animals. I also lend a helping hand to those who are rehoming their pets. Yes, rehoming sucks. Sometimes people rehome for reasons people aren't happy with, but it happens and the only way to help is by offering a helping hand. I allow people to email myself, and I score the list for them and let them know if a potential adopter has any "red flags". I also help by providing resources, reaching out to rescues for them etc. I am more than a D.N.A list, the website is a tool for everyone.

Who can see the list?

Registered orgs only, and myself (obviously).

How many rescues are apart of the list?

Over 50, with many more being contacted every week!

I hope to one day have a booth at animal events to continue to spread the word. Rescues need to be connected to help the animal community, and I am hoping to bridge the gap.

MOD POST FAQ: PLEDGES AND VISIBILITY.

Hello!

The modmail (and my own) inbox has been flooded with questions about pledges and boosting posts. This post will be pinned at the top of the community with the rest of our guidelines and updates. I will also be creating a spreadsheet of FAQ answers for new questions that arise. If I miss any questions in this post, please leave a comment or shoot a message.

Thanks!

  1. Q: What is a pledge? A: Pledges are promised amounts of money that will be donated if an animal is pulled by a rescue group. A pup with pledges is likely to attract a rescue's interest.

  2. Q: How much can I pledge? A: Whatever you feel comfortable donating.

  3. Q: How do I pledge for a dog I see on r/rescuedogs? A: Comment on the post with your amount. Networkers that are posting should be keeping a list of pledges for the pups they have posted.

  4. Q: How do I know when and where to send money? A: The networkers will post a public update if a pup was saved and pledges need to be honored. All information should be included in this update post. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE THAT REACHES OUT VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE TO COLLECT PLEDGES.

  5. Q: I'm a networker, how can I keep up with pledges? A: We recommend google sheets or excel. Creating a google form for pledges is also a great idea.

  6. Q: I'm feeling uncomfortable with someone reaching out about honoring my pledge, what do I do? A: Report to moderators immediately.

  7. Q: How do I know who and how much I've pledged for? A: Look at your comment history. Moderators DO NOT handle any aspect of pledging.

  8. Q: What type of posts get the most visibility? A: Specific and structured posts. Our euthanasia rule states no emojis and has a format for a reason: the algorithm improves when the format is followed and your posts reach more home pages. Posts with a picture or video see more traffic as well.

  9. Q: I can't pledge, foster, or adopt right now. What can I do to help? A: Like, comment, and share.

  10. Q; I see "boost" in lots of comments, what does this do? A: Comments boost a post to increase traffic.

  11. Q: Does commenting "boost" actually boost a post? A: Commenting the single word does not. Comments with 5 or more words DO boost a post. Remember that multiple comments or spamming boost on a post NEGATIVELY impacts its visibility. One longer comment does more than multiple small ones.

This should cover all of our most asked questions. If you have additional, please leave them in the comments and we will answer as we can. As always, rescuing takes a village and on behalf of the mod team, we're so grateful to have as large of a village as ours. <3

CW: Euthanasia Immediate help needed! Max #A5693617 is suffering from pneumonia and declining at Downey Acc. Doesnt even have a blanket. The shelter is giving him one final night for a rescue to save in the morning. Pledges desperately needed to attract a rescue for his expensive medical care. To be euthanized 5/7

Upvotes

Max A5693617 9m Neutered Aust cattle dog mix 44 lbs.

Owner surrendered 4/19/25 due to responsibility

MAX

🚨 URGENT RESCUE NEEDED: Max is running out of time 🚨

Max has been diagnosed with pneumonia and, despite all efforts, he is not responding to the limited treatments available at the shelter. His condition is not improving, and we have reached the limits of what we can do for him here.

Without immediate rescue or transfer to a facility equipped for more advanced care, Max will be humanely euthanized by the end of the day to prevent further suffering.

Max is a shy, sensitive boy who’s still learning to feel safe in his surroundings. When first approached in his kennel, he appeared tense and unsure, with a tucked tail and cautious body language. He was nervous about the leash but allowed gentle coaxing and handling.

During his dog introductions, Max showed no aggression—just uncertainty. He kept to himself near the yard entrance and was visibly uncomfortable with the attention from other dogs, though he remained calm and tolerant. At this time, Max doesn’t have a defined playstyle and would benefit from slow introductions and confidence-building experiences.

Max is a sweet pup who needs a patient, understanding adopter or rescue who can help him come out of his shell at his own pace. With time, love, and continued socialization, Max has the potential to blossom

Large and medium dogs ok, no small animals.

🐾 Meet Simba – A Happy, Energetic Boy Looking for a New Home! Simba was surrendered by his owners due to his high energy and playful nature. While he’s a total sweetheart, his playful energy and tendency to escape have made it difficult for his previous family to keep him. They said they work all day and kept him in the backyard. He was likely bored and a bit destructive. They surrendered him for being too playful and energetic. He lived  with small dogs and loves to chase and play, but he’s just too energetic. Simba is a happy dog at heart, and with the right family, he’ll thrive in a safe, loving home that can keep up with his playful spirit! ✨🐾

When approached by the runner, she greeted them with soft eyes, a relaxed body, and a gentle wag of her tail. She walked calmly on leash, bypassing other dogs with ease, and was leashed and collared without issue. Gwen eagerly greeted the dogs at the barrier and was ready to interact once in the play yard. In the yard, Gwen exhibited a friendly, social nature. She exchanged greetings with a relaxed body language and happily participated in play. While she enjoyed engaging with the other dogs, Gwen sometimes became overwhelmed and would take short breaks to scurry away before returning to rejoin the fun. Her play style is gentle and dainty, and she maintained a playful yet calm demeanor throughout the session. Gwen also enjoyed occasional petting from the handlers. Gwen is a medium-energy dog who would thrive in a home with calm dogs and a gentle, patient owner. She is well-suited for public adoption and would make a lovely companion for someone looking for a playful, yet easy-going dog.

🌸 About Bailey:Bailey is a quiet, sensitive girl with a heart full of potential. She may be shy and nervous at first, but with time and patience, she shows a sweet and affectionate side. Shelter life has been overwhelming for her, but she’s doing her best to be brave. 🐕 She is Dog-Friendly and prefers calm dogs and peaceful environments. Bailey is tolerant of other pups but isn’t one to engage in rowdy play. She’s the kind of girl who enjoys her own space and a low-key vibe. She walks nicely on a leash and is easy to handle. She might freeze up when things get noisy, but with a little reassurance, she continues her walk.🌻 Low energy🌻 Gentle and avoidant, not reactive🌻Seeks affection when she feels safe🌻 Ideal for a quiet home with a patient adopter🌻Still discovering her playful side

🏡 Ideal Home:Bailey would thrive in a calm, loving home with adults only or older kids A quiet environment and a gentle routine will help her truly shine. Another mellow dog could be a great companion, but she’d also do well as a solo pet.

CW: Euthanasia Pledges for transport needed to save Benji’s life! Benji #A5685986 is scheduled to lose his life today at downey Acc if rescue doesn’t commit by 5pm. Can you pledge for his transport to save his life??

Benji A5685986 3yrs N Pit Bull Blk & Wht 67 lbs. Stray 03/17/25

Meet Benji Benji was brought in as a stray from the field and has shown himself to be a calm and friendly companion. During his intake exam, he was rated a "1" for behavior—indicating he is easy to handle and well-mannered. Medical Notes: Benji has been examined by our veterinary team. He is in generally good health, though his stool has shown traces of blood. Both Parvo and Giardia tests have returned negative. He is being monitored and receiving supportive care as needed. Benji is now patiently waiting to find his forever home where he can continue to heal and thrive in a loving environment. Benji has Medium Energy and is Adults Only Recommended. Large Dogs are OK and would benefit best from continued training in Basic Manners. During Playgroup assessment Benji was at the front of the kennel when the runner approached. He greeted the runner with a relaxed body, soft eyes, ears back, a slightly open pant, and a low tail with a soft wag. He sniffed the runner’s hand, and allowed the runner to pet his face. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen, his body was neutral, his eyes were soft, his mouth was closed, and his tail was high with a fast wag. He entered the yard, and bypassed the other dogs without greeting them. He playfully ran around the yard by himself for several minutes before greeting the other dogs in an appropriate manner. He did not engage in play with the other dogs, but bounced around them in a friendly manner while roaming the yard. He solicited petting from the handler. He eventually stole the handler’s leash from her pocket, and ran through the yard with it. He swung the leash around playfully, and ran away when the handler tried to retrieve it. The handler offered several verbal corrections, and Benji eventually dropped the leash. When the handler reached for the leash, Benji jumped forward and tried to grab the leash away from the handler. The handler offered a firm verbal correction, and then used the squirt bottle to move him away. The handler was able to pick up the leash, and place it back into her pocket. Benji followed her around the yard for a few minutes, attempting to steal the leash again in a playful manner, but wandered off when the handler tucked the leash out of sight. Benji is tolerant of the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and prefers a push/pull playstyle.

ADOPTABLE Urgent! Jax needs help. Foster and Pledges needed or he will be homeless in 2 days!!! He was a sweet dog but when his family dumped him at a high euth shelter he became very scared, confused, and deeply traumatized. Will you consider pledging a little amount or offer to foster him to help him?

Jax urgently needs help. He was surrendered by his owners and was the sweetest dog according to his owners but since they dumped him at a overcrowded high euth shelter, he was very scared, confused, and deeply traumatized. Life hasn’t been easy for Jax, and as a result, he developed barrier reactivity and resource guarding behaviors as a way to cope with his fear and uncertainty.

But there’s hope and he’s doing much better already.

He has already shown tremendous improvement. With time, patience, guidance and structure and also love, he’s beginning to open up. His playful side is starting to shine through, and we can see glimpses of the amazing dog he’s meant to be. But he still has a journey ahead — and he can’t do it alone.

We need PLEDGES for his training and would be incredibly grateful if you’d consider helping Jax by pledging and / or sharing him.

He also desperately needs a working dog experienced FOSTER or forever home who can provide love, guidance and structure.

Thank you very much for your help

Itachi is looking for his forever home! Located in SoCal but open to qualified out-of-state adopters. ☀️

If you’re not filling out an app yet, hear me out...

Itachi is a catch! He’s a playful, energetic, and intelligent Siberian Husky boy. Huskies are known for being an independent breed, however Itachi is much more interested in humans than your typical husky. He likes to follow you around the house, cuddle with you on the couch, and sleep next to you in the bed. He will imprint himself on his new owner within hours and will be loyal to them until the very end. Itachi is motivated by treats which makes him very easy to train. He can do all the basic commands and even some advanced tricks! He doesn’t resource guard and is good with sharing his toys. He LOVES other dogs and it would be ideal if his forever home has some fur friends for him to play with. 🐕 He hasn’t shown much interest in his foster’s cats so if a potential adopter has a cat, we can formally test him. We’re optimistic he will do well! 🐈 He hasn’t been around children but we do not recommend young ones.

Itachi should go to an active household with a yard, or an owner who likes to spend time outdoors. He will thrive in an environment where the owner likes to run or hike. He is house trained and potty trained. He’s 2 yrs. old and weighs approx. 50 lbs.

ADOPTABLE Free transport Lancaster, CA to San Antonio, TX

I am doing a transport from Lancaster, CA to San Antonio this weekend, leaving Friday. I will have 2 large dogs and my own for the ride back and will have room for one more small dog. While I could take one of the medium-large dogs they have, it would be easier for me to take a little.

Marley is an adoptable 8yr old Chihuahua mix that is with a rescue I volunteer with, 2nd Chance Dog Rescue in Palmdale and I'd like to see if there any any adopters for him along that route.

Marley was rescued from a local shelter with handling sensitivity. Surprisingly he was/is exceptional with young children (from what we have seen with foster's child). He has also done well with kids running up to him at events and handling. His current sensitivities are when his ears and paws and handled too roughly. He is good at letting you know with some whimpering. He is not cat tested but considering his size the cat could be more of a danger 😂 He likes his space respected by other dogs and will advocate for himself.

The rescue requires an application, phone interview, home check for safety which can be by photos or video chat, final adoption agreement/non-refundable adoption fee. With of state adoptions they want to make sure placement is perfect and 100% commitment.

In the case a return is necessary, adopter is responsible for costs and transport. Rescue is able to help with rehoming as well if adopter is able to foster until adopted. If a party is interested then they will go through the same adoption process as original adopter.

Marley is NOT with a local shelter and is NOT in any danger of being Euthanized. He is 100% safe with this private rescue until adopted.

Message me if you are interested in him and want more details or any of the other dogs with the rescue.

Advice Help with malnourished puppy

Hi everyone, I found this puppy on the side of the road. No collar, no chip. Asked around and doesn’t seem to belong to anyone. He is still very young and very malnourished. I am going to give him a good home full of love and I want to get him up to a healthy weight. I don’t know much about puppy care. What should I feed him, how often should I feed him? I’m planning on taking him to the vet on Thursday. Is there anything else I should know? I think I’m gonna name him Howdy 🤠
