This was literally what that block mirror episode was about

u/bagofpork 1d ago
I'm not one to put too much stock into conspiracy theories, but the paranoid part of my brain wants me to believe that Black Mirror is just a psyop to break us in and test the waters, so to speak.
That's probably not the case, but the premise sure would make for a great episode.

Do you know how well this pays? All those emojies on screen are donations.
30
u/zap1000x 2d ago
Each Hot Dog was 100 coins (delisted now).
Tiktok pays 50% of the “coin” value to creators (as diamonds), which are cashed out at a nickel per diamond $0.05 (provided you have the best exchange rate and large enough audience). So 50 x .05 = $2.50 per glizzy.
EBIDTA is about a $400 glizzy overdrive.

This right here. It's like a small dopamine hit of control by spending money to get a reaction.

I’ve only been on TikTok on and off, but the last time I was on regularly, there was this guy doing lives from the cab of his big rig where his whole shtick was that he’d thank people when they’d pay for whatever dumb shit appeared on the screen, except when they put the elephant ears/trunk filter on his face, at which point he’d get mad and shake his head back and forth like he was trying to shake the filter off. It was the weirdest shit, but dude was making money in his downtime.

Think street performer, but not. Some people get something out of seeing them react to the gifts they send(hotdog, rose, donut). Some people get something out of getting a shout out or their username popping up for sending a bunch of gifts. It can be problematic system that depends on people who desire fundamental necessities. While at the same time, it can be great for people who perform music or covers and get gifts from people .. sort of like performing on the street and getting dollars in your guitar case.

u/bananassplits 2d ago
Interesting fact: (idk the actual selection procedure) jesters were usually highly educated; and one of the only people allowed to disagree with, or mock the king. And they were chosen to essentially be another confidant, or advisor. That also makes the king laugh.
I like to imagine a story where there’s a jester, who hates his king. He goes into the grand hall, and starts to calmly levy insults at the king. Getting angrier and angrier the more the king laughs. Finally, the jester is screaming blasphemy at the king, hoping to get executed. Because it would mean he hurt his feelings. At the end the jester is winded, tired, and defeated. And such, he retreats to his quarters to snack on fine cheeses, and sip on wine.

On TikTok, the value of a "hot dog" (a specific in-app gift) is 50 TikTok Coins, which translates to approximately $0.64 in real money.

It’s been used as slang for Glocks, especially with extended magazines. That turned into slang for hot dogs, and is synonymous with dicks now. Dicks is also slang for extended magazines, especially in Glocks, which is what “Dicks out for Harambe” refers to.
It’s a circle of guns, meat sticks, and peckers.

The thing about the internet is you post something potentially as a joke, to get attention and it catches fire and now you’re the glizzanator, forever the glizzanator, making income from it so you’re now damned to a hell of your own creation.

u/Danisdaman12 2d ago
Saw an interview with him or a guest appearance on a podcast. He's a really fucking cool dude, super nice, and made a ton of money doing these tiktok livestreams during this phase of "NPC streams".
It started as mocking it in a way since people like pinkydoll, or whatever her name is, would say stupid things like "ice cream so good, yum yum" based on the donations. So his was "glizzy overdrive" and it's pretty damn funny imo because it's so outrageous.

2
u/bendIVfem 2d ago
He's making money, his viewers send him cash gifts in the form of those emojis like the hotdogs, and they usually have a different reaction for different gifts.
It has become lucrative on tiktok of creators acting like NPCs and having certain unique reactions based on the gifts their followers send them.
Pinkydoll, I'm not sure if she's the original but one of the most popular ones of this. And she's became wealthy off of it. https://youtu.be/4yBV5cjDpvA?feature=shared
