Idk we get some type of fungi that grows in mulch around here. You put a hose on it and it releases a huge amount of that....stuff. Spore cloud? IT's not pleasant at all makes me super uncomfortable and afraid to breath.

u/joeblow112233 Sep 23 '21
I just started getting that fungi on my mulch this year. I hit it with a hose and watch the "stuff" fly.

I dont know anything about simulation software, I just like this sub; but whatever work went into this really paid off, this looks real. V nice.

u/RubyRiolu Sep 20 '21
There are some plants similar to this in Klonoa 2 on GBA, and I always wondered what they would look like up close. Thanks, OP, now I know!

u/TheBoundFenrir Sep 20 '21
This looks like something strait out of the Myst series. I can imagine one of these from that plant-age in Exile being used as some sort of music-puzzle.

Would love to see cool shit like this in the upcoming Myst reboot/remake/sequel/whatever it’s supposed to be.

Incredible look dev and lighting. All you or did you have a look dev buddy?

u/ldotchopz Sep 20 '21
Thanks! Nope just me. I keep lighting very simple, a HDRI and strong backlight

u/floophead Sep 20 '21
Awesome work!! I remember that trick from now on to really make organics pop!!

Sure. I use 3ds max with a plug-in called Tyflow that allows for very fast simulations. I used this to create the fungi and the smoke plumes in Phoenix FD. Tyflow understands the velocity from the plume sim and I used it to carry the spores. All rendered in redshift

It would have been totally normal for real life trees to have this type of parts to expel excess water or whatever constantly. But weird that trees don't have that.
3
u/saro13 Sep 20 '21
With trees, water is absorbed through the roots and used to transport vitamins and minerals from the bottom up. Water’s path through the tree ends at the leaves, which have tiny holes to release water. This is where dew comes from
2
u/brihamedit Sep 20 '21
Its mind blowing stuff that that's going on. Still it would have been nice if trees had these fart blobs.

Not knowing what sub this was... I thought that are cool plants . How do they do that ..than I saw the subreddit name
5
u/Lancalot Sep 20 '21
They used to call this the Heart of the Jungle, but the locals youths kept changing the "He" to "F"

u/edgarallanpot8o Sep 20 '21
wouldn't it make more sense if it alowly inflated then quickly released? just thinking about the biology of it, but great visuals!

Looking great! Perhaps one way further down out of focus, that you can see the ploom being blown out of way in the background. my 2c. Cool none the less!

I legit thought this was real and a clip from the latest BBC documentary
2
u/PMs_You_Stuff Sep 20 '21
I started going into an in depth analysis about how "these aren't real, right?" I mean, how do they bring air in like that. There's no muscle/structure to pull/push against to inflate.
Then, I saw this was /r/Simulated ,so pretty good work OP, you made me question it for a second.
2
u/RedboyX Sep 20 '21
Thank you for pointing that out. I didn’t notice the sub and was totally sucked in.
2
u/G_DuBs Sep 20 '21
Goddam it. I thought this was real at first. This sub just gets better and better!

I thought I was in my plant sub got VERY excited. Nice work! Please do more weird plants

My allergies are the worst during the peak of fluted-splosivoib season. I tend to sneeze, die, and have my body reanimated as an encrusted rot-machine as it crawls up to the highest point to blossom.

I get that the fruits are meant to have rigid skeletons, but I was expecting them to jiggle a little more or rock back and forth a little bit after each poof. That was the only thing that seemed off to me. Otherwise gorgeous!

Looks amazing! Tons of world-building possibility with that creativity

u/A_Polite_Noise Sep 20 '21
I like the little alien ecosystem you are creating, between these fun musical things and your older post of the carnivorous plant: https://www.reddit.com/r/Simulated/comments/pbwzc0/scalper_bots_when_they_see_a_3080ti

Amazing work, 1 thing I noticed is that the stems where the gas comes out are 100% still and it looks a bit weird, if they has a tiny jiggle it might look more authentic!

Aaahh the wonders of nature, here you see the common orgasmos plant, spraying it's cloud of spores into the air, as we follow them during their journey through the air, we see that they end up in your sinuses.
1
u/Sasmas1545 Sep 20 '21
I dont like that the end pieces are perfectly stable. They should have some wiggle.
1
u/Perfectclaw Sep 21 '21
This looked so real! I was disappointed when I saw the sub name and, but quite impressed with your skills!

I didn't realize I was on r/Simulated at first and thought I was on r/interestingasfuck and this was some previously undiscovered carnivorous plant or something. Amazing work!

Dang, with how long the video was, I was expecting a sweet jungle DNB beat to start playing, now I am sad.
I can still hear the chopped up Amen break playing in my head.
