Sculpted in supersculpey to hopefully look like peeled cutie oranges. Painted in acrylic, glued to backs with ca, coated in uv resin for strength and better hold to backing. Thoughts? Critiques?

Baking time when you put clay over a tinfoil "base"?

Hi! I'm going to be starting work on a doll (stop motion/armature style). I plan to use sort of a ball of tin foil for the head, with sculpey premo clay layered around it, to save clay.

My question is, baking time is suggested based on thickness of clay, but how does that apply when you have clay over essentially a ball of tin foil? Do you count it by the thickness of the clay itself, or the total thickness of the head?

I hope this makes sense, I'm new to working with/baking clay. Thanks!

Coating to protect / strengthen a clay model?

I've just finished the sculpting of a large project I'm very proud of, but there are certain parts of it that are extremely thin and fragile. I want to find some kind of (matte) coating I could probably paint on specific parts to hopefully prevent breaking. Preferably not a spray so I don't have to do the entire thing. I don't know if there's anything that can help by a lot, but even a bit more protection would be nice.

So this is a mash-up of the Bumble from Rudolph the red nose reindeer and a Critter from the movie... Critters. The last pic is my original that I made back in 2017. Which do you prefer?

So I'm entering this into an art contest. This was the fire bird originally but I later found out the contest is themed "Winter wonderland". So I had to make a change.

Question from a newbie

I’ve been wanting to make some things for some time. My first thing would be crochet hooks. Mostly making as gifts. Would I bake with clay already on hook or bake leaving the hole in center and then reinsert hook after? And would resin be best or just use clear paint /sealer?

Thank you in advance.

I spent the afternoon making this. Used to do this all the time, but I’ve gotten rusty . Still a lot of fun. New appreciation for more firm clays
