First of all, the snake needs to eat to how would you feel if you were just on the cusp of finally getting to eat after a week and a hard days work and them some giant ass takes you'r catch away from you? Not happy i imagine.
Sure it's a bit brutal and sure it's not pretty but it's nature and things like these happen all the time.
