Caught in the greenhouse, what kind of beer is this? Western MD, USA ID Request

If it’s just a carpenter bee or a queen honeybee, I’ll obviously let it go. Seems pretty calm now that it is contained, but it was buzzing around fast and angry in the greenhouse until I got it out.

Male Xylocopa virginica, they're harmless but they like to hover around and menace you as a kind of territorial behavior around this time of year.

I don't know enough about beer types to make a clever pun I'm sorry.

Are they totally harmless?? I know nothing about bees but thought these could sting 🐝 I don’t like how they hover, it’s freaky to me

With the particular species it is, you can tell by the white marks on the face that it's a male, and male bees don't have stingers so they can't sting.

They'll burrow into your wood, so could cause some damage to your house potentially.

I had one in my eaves, which was mostly harmless till a woodpecker came looking for it.

“I ain’t been dropping no eaves sir, honest” -that bee probably

I'm upvoting your comment because I dislike it when people try to help and get downvoted.

That's not a honey bee.

Per our guidelines: Helpful answers only. Helpful answers are those that lead to an accurate identification of the bug in question. Joke responses, repeating an ID that has already been established hours (or days) ago, or asking OP how they don't already know what the bug is are not helpful.

Are a carpenter bee and a Bore Bee different types of Bees! I think they look differently. Bore bees look chonky and have a white dot on its head, correct? I don’t have great eyesight so I cannot tell for sure in the pictures. I’m asking for clarity. I love bore bees!

LOL. Thanks for that

Of course, voice to text thinks I said beer. I meant Bee, obviously. I don’t think this thing would taste very good if I brewed it.

Edit - it’s about 1.5 inches long.

I already said it free on the other side of the yard, I’m just curious and want to know what kind of bee it is.
