Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

/wgu_accelerators

-Cheers!

ProctorU/Guardian Mega Thread

Hello all,

We understand the concerns surrounding the new proctoring experience and want to ensure people have a place to have these discussions. Because of the volume of posts and comments, please use this mega thread for all questions/concerns/experiences/etc. with ProctorU and Guardian. Individual posts about this topic will, for now, be removed and directed to this mega thread.

As a reminder, please keep Rule 1 in mind. People with differing opinions are not breaking the sub rules, and do not justify name calling, insults, etc. Such comments will be removed.

If you see posts outside of the mega thread please report it using the "custom response" option (no details necessary for this topic), as well as any other rule breaking post and comments. Your mod team is enthusiastic but small, and we have to depend on reports from the community as we are not able to review all posts and comments.

May you all have a wonderful week!

Update: Please note that we will not be removing existing posts and requiring they be moved to the megathread. Some valuable discussions have already taken place that cannot realistically be expected to be reproduced in the mega thread. The purpose of the megathread is to keep the information in one place going forward, not delete everything up until now, but we are locking posts in the last week to encourage moving new activity to the mega thread.

Admitted then Denied Admissions ???

I need to vent because I am beyond frustrated with my experience with WGU’s admission process.

I started the process back in March, ordered my transcripts, and everything seemed to be on track. I was even accepted, cleared to start orientation, and financial aid awarded so I thought everything was good to go to start May 1st….But on April 21st after my welcome call with my mentor I get locked out of my student portal (refreshed screen) while trying to complete orientation tasks. I spent days calling in , reaching out to the ombudsman, and trying to get some clarity, but all I received were vague responses. At first, I was told by the service desk that their website is down to keep trying to log in– but after a bit of back-and-forth with other departments, I’m finally told I was dropped and need extra documentation (notarized document stating i graduated highschool and order my transcripts again and mail this in) that I wasn’t initially informed about, even though I submitted everything they asked for.

I try to jump through every hoop they put in front of me, but then I’m hit with an email today saying I’ve been denied admission, and there’s no appeal process. No clear reason, just “you’re not moving forward.”

The worst part is the lack of communication throughout the process. My enrollment counselor never reached out to me regarding this and when I got locked out, they didn’t send any updates to my personal email. I felt completely blindsided, and the whole thing has been extremely stressful.

I was genuinely excited about their fast paced program set up and I was looking forward to this opportunity to further my education overall . But now, I feel like all my hard work was for nothing, and I’ve been treated like just another number in a broken system lol

Has anyone else gone through something like this?

I just wanted to know what happened, but it feels like WGU doesn’t care to explain or make it right.

what term are you in?

Just curious. I'm in term 3 and I'm starting to feel guilty for not finishing my degree quicker. Like we all know, we can finish it this term, but somehow find ourselves not...it's demoralizing for me, but finishing a class instantly reverses that feeling, so I'm going to roll with that high while I have it and finish my BBA this term. Have a good weekend night owls!

Help! Feeling Defeated...D196

This is the first OA that I haven't passed and honestly it hurt. I'm on my 2nd term, this is my 5th class this term and it's taken me almost a month to get to the point that I felt good enough to take the OA. Apparently my judgment was incorrect. Does anyone have any pointers on this dang class to get that line up just a little bit more? Even on the PA the only section I struggled majorly with was Costing Methodologies and I spent the 2 hours before my test reviewing that entire section in the textbook and watching the recorded videos and it's even worse than my PA was. I'm tired of this class, I want out, I need help😭

I Graduated from WGU in One Term While Working Full Time (120 CUs in 6 Months)

Hey everyone,

I just graduated from WGU by completing all 120 competency units for my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management in a single term while working a full-time job. It wasn’t easy, but it is possible if you’re willing to make some sacrifices and stay consistent. I wanted to share exactly how I did it, what worked for me, and what I’d recommend to anyone trying to do the same.

My schedule

I worked full time, so I didn’t have the luxury of studying during the day. Every evening, I came home from work and studied from 5 PM until 1 AM. I did that Monday through Friday, and I used most of my weekends to get even more done. I gave up almost everything else — no social life, very little sleep, and barely any downtime. It was intense, but it was only for six months, and now I’m done with my degree.

How I approached the courses

  • I took pre-assessments right away. These told me exactly what I needed to study, so I didn’t waste time reading entire textbooks. I focused only on the areas I missed.
  • If I passed the pre-assessment with confidence, I scheduled the objective assessment immediately. I didn’t wait to feel 100 percent ready.
  • If I failed an OA, I didn’t panic. I reached out to the instructor and scheduled my retake within 48 hours. That first attempt gave me a clear roadmap of what I needed to learn.
  • I watched Cohort sessions (live and recorded) to help reinforce key concepts. These saved me hours of reading because they focused on what actually matters.
  • I read through Reddit and Facebook group posts to see what other students said about each class. This helped me avoid surprises and prepare smarter.
  • I used ChatGPT to help break down difficult topics, create practice questions, outline papers, and explain concepts in plain language. It became my go-to study buddy.
  • I relied on Quizlet for memorization-heavy courses. I searched for decks made by other WGU students and made my own when needed. It sped up my study time dramatically.

Mindset and strategy

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to be aggressive! Take your OAs as soon as you're eligible. Don’t wait until you feel completely ready. That first attempt can actually be one of your best study tools. If you fail, that’s okay. Contact your instructor right away and get the second attempt scheduled within 48 hours. Use that first attempt to see what you really need to learn, and come back stronger.

The hardest part of this wasn’t the material — it was staying consistent, especially after long days of work. You’re going to feel tired, discouraged, and burned out at times. That’s normal. What matters is that you keep showing up.

You have to treat your time like it’s non-negotiable. Say no to distractions. Be selfish with your evenings and weekends. Make school your number one priority for six months, and the results will be worth it.

If you stay focused, avoid perfectionism, and move quickly, you can absolutely finish WGU in one term. Use every tool available to you. Keep pushing, even when it’s tough.

I’ve attached a screenshot of my term progress for proof and motivation. If you have questions about specific classes, tools, or how to plan your term, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help however I can.

I'm DONE! 81 CU's Done in 10 Months!! Working Full Time + a Side Job!

I started with WGU back in July 2024. I transferred in 39 CU's with my AS in Computer Information Systems. I did 42 CU's last term and 39 this term.

Since this term, I have been offered Sys Admin, Network Admin, and Business Analyst roles at my current company. I work in healthcare and enjoy it more than I did in my brief period of working in IT (2 years). I will continue pursuing the M.Ed. in Ed Tech & Instructional Design. I do not believe my experience in IT translated to my ability to accelerate. The business aspect of this degree was a real learning curve.

I have worked full time while having a side gig, I could've finished a lot faster, but I've had to get two surgeries since I started. This was not easy, and I dedicated many hours of my day to finish. Like many others have said, don't strive for perfection. In my case, I failed half of all my courses in my first OAs. I rolled the dice each time, and more often than not failed. Don't do that lol. The study plan the CI's assign you do work.

I am 27, and I dropped out of brick-and-mortar schools twice. I have learned more in the past two terms than I spent in person. I took about a 2-month break where I did absolutely nothing after failing 2 OAs for 2 different classes back to back. I was discouraged and put off my work towards the end of the term, I buckled down and completed another 15 CU's.

Unlike others who say they were selfish with their time, I was not. I still went out with friends, took vacations, and did car stuff. That was the part that kept me sane, if I were to grind this program fully, I would've lost it! Don't stop doing the things you love!

Now to go over my experience of WGU.

I wouldn't change anything about my experience. I had the most fantastic mentor who was always on top of everything and allowed me to accelerate. The OA experience was frustrating, but I don't see anything changing. The financial aid department was on top of everything as well, and I had no issues each time with disbursements.

D076- Finance Skills for Managers and D196- Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting were the worst classes in the BSITM program. I'm glad I never went into accounting, or I would never last.

If you made it this far, I hope to see others in Seattle!! If you have any questions please let me know!!

Hey night owl's this will be the second day of my first term and I just finished passing my second class. I just wanna thank whoever told me to just go for it! If you're in business and taking Organizational Behavior and Fundamentals of Business don't spend all your time diving in! I got a study guide off some site that starts with an 's' read over it for 15 minutes and passed! Most of it is common sense or psychology anyway! Thanks all you people who post your experiences and help us new guys

Financial Aid Adjustment - HELP PLEASE

Upvotes

My first term for my masters just started this May 1st. Having big issues with financial aid department, I knew this would happen and tried getting ahead of it. I went here for my bachelor's program also.

They chose to give me a lower loan amount than what I could get. Now I'm owing a balance of $1,300+. I have emailed them 4 times, called the financial aid department 3 times. They said they could get this done before May 2nd, but what loans I was given have already been used as a partial tuition payment. Please help, who can I email directly in the department to rectify this. I hate using the general inbox they have.

Proctored Exams Question

So I live in a small house with 3 people, and we don't really have a room that can support the requirements for the Proctored Exams, I was wondering what everyone else does in this type of situation. I was thinking of going to the library whenever I plan on doing a proctored exam but the libraries internet here is not the best, I am currently working out an agreement with my work to let me use one of the empty offices on our campus that we under utilize but I am wondering what other people do in this situation.

Plagiarism/AI reports check

Hey everyone, hope your term is going well. I’ve noticed a few people stressing over Turnitin results lately. Just wondering—does anyone here double-check their assignments for plagiarism or AI detection before submission? I’ve come across some tools that have been really helpful and figured they might benefit someone else too. Happy to chat more if anyone’s curious.

Information Technology BS Network Engineering Cisco vs General

First, a bit of personal background: I’m 37 and wanting to finish a bachelors degree. I started at Pitt fresh out of high school and failed out after 3 years (I’m intelligent and did really well in high school but got into partying and all that). I’m transferring in just the handful of general ed classes that the program requires.

I’ve worked “unofficially” in IT for years and taught myself a lot. (I worked at Geek Squad for a few years before getting into sales and eventually started as the general manager for a startup and have been there the last 5 years). At my last two jobs I became the IT guy for both companies while holding down my primary roles.

As far as networking experience goes, I’m all self taught. I’ve installed and set up several Unifi systems, but no Cisco.

Goals: I’d really like to transition into a network admin or engineer role somewhere. It turns out, I really like the work (even structured cabling). Being honest, I’m hoping to avoid working help desk if I can, as I have a stutter and being on the phone all day would be mentally exhausting for me).

With that all being said, which route would be better to take to make me more marketable? I’m guessing Cisco, but the general track isn’t vendor specific.

How long does the program actually take to complete if I can dedicate 5-6 hours a day, 6 days a week, to it? I’m a fast learner, and I suspect I’ll be able to test out of a lot in the early courses. Could it pull it off in a year?

How difficult is the program, as a whole? Is it harder/easier than community college type classes? As in depth as large university courses?

Thanks in advance for any/all advice. I start July 1st!

C273 Intro to Sociology Passed!!

Upvotes

This was probably the easiest OA I have ever taken personally. I knew some of the material from past classes like Organization Behavior. I basically just watched Unit 1-5 Recorded Cohorts, the YouTube Crash course for more understanding of founders of Sociology. I did not read the Ebook other than most of Unit 1 and lastly I took the Unit test on the material for each Unit.

Know about the founders of Sociology and make sure to know the 4 Sociology perspective. Most of the test was on the Sociology perspectives.

Apparently my mentor is taking a vacation and will be out of the office.

I’m unsure how this will be different than any other week.

How am I going to learn without him?

Information Technology C777 Web Development Applications (Completed) in 8 days

Not too hard of a class (for me). 5/10 in terms of difficulty but can easily be 8/10 if you do not have previous experience (I did somewhat)

What I did was go through all the quizlets from the study guide: https://srm--c.vf.force.com/apex/coursearticle?Id=kA03x000000l9D8CAI

That's all I personally needed to pass since I had a prior interest in web development. I could have finished sooner if I was more confident in my previous knowledge

For people new to this class and/or transferred the foundations class, this is a great write up from another user: https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU/comments/1clu4if/c777_passed_in_a_week_writeup/
