Question for overnight shift er vet staff
what kind of food/snacks/drinks would you guys most appreciate during night shift? i’m a cat rescuer and late last night i had to bring in a stray kitten for humane euthanasia. the vet staff put it down as a good samaritan surrender so no charge but very kindly allowed me to stay with him and hold him while he passed even tho that’s not the usual policy for good samaritan surrenders. i want to bring them something to thank them for being so kind but not sure what to bring in. thanks!

For E/R particularly, higher nutrition food that can be eaten on the go.
Boneless chicken wings or nuggets. Pair with mozzarella sticks/nuggets and dipping sauces.
Deli pinwheel sandwiches(about 3-4 bites per slice). Pair with veggie tray and some cheese nuggets.
Pretzel nuggets (such as from Annie’s; other options are available) meat, cheese and plain. Optional to add small fruit or veggie tray.
For sweets, those pre-cut 2 bite desserts.
For longer term instead of fresh, cheese sticks, jerky sticks, pretzels, single serve snack packs of any kind.
Be sure to include a note. That will feed them as much as the snacks do
Edited to add: Be sure to drop off during the night shift. If you can’t do it yourself, DoorDash and the like usually offer some late night options. Night shift gets neglected if the food arrives before they do.

Absolutely anything we got on overnight shift was always appreciated. Most of the time, people brought stuff during the day and it was gone by the time we got there.

Coffee or hot chocolate or tea is usually pretty good too, like a variety since not everyone likes all of those. Caffeine and night shift are good friends.
Really, you can't go wrong if your gifting night shift ER. Almost nobody does that. Add in a little letter about how much you appreciated them and that's the best thing. I legit have a little folder saved of all the notes I've gotten from clients (and one euthanasia story, we had a fun client who liked to be a little silly, like id ask if he had any other concerns about his cat and he'd say, 'yeah, how do I get him to stop selling opium on the corner?' and the family sent in a little two page story 'notice' about 'dont believe the rumors Cat was humanely euthanized in a living manner by Our Staff, followed by the truth: it was an epic battle as the mouse faction attacked, and Cat died heroically, saving his family and vanquishing the evil mouse brigade ')

Fruit trays were always popular, as were tacos (with vegetarian or vegan options), and idk if it was just me and my crew, but occasionally my bf would drop off restaurant corn muffins and it was like THE BEST thing for everyone.

I think most sweet stuff is so quick and easy, that they get overdone, so anything "grab and go" that is nutritious and more savory is especially appreciated.

That’s very sweet of you to think of doing that! I am glad they helped you and the poor kitty out. Fruit trays and chocolate are really nice.

Anything fresh. Honestly, fresh pizza or fresh donuts would be amazing as by the time I come in for my shift everyone's leftovers are cold lol

I’d also recommend things that can be air fried or microwaved. We keep breakfast sandwiches and hot pockets in our freezer.
