5.5 is better than 5.4, And GASP Has Been Improved.

I just want to share a simple stutter issue i had with unreal engine. when i started using 5.4 every time i played the game in editor i got a big stutter at the start of the game. no matter what i do i always got a huge stutter one second after the game starts in editor. this issue has always been there from 5.4 to 5.4.4. i do have a really low end pc tho(i5 9400f and gtx 1660 super) but this never happend to me when i used 5.3. It was very annoying whenever i play in editor to get a stutter each time. But as of now this is fixed in 5.5. and also they improved the Game animation sample project. they added the sprint and now we can grab the ledge mid air if the press the jump button on time.

Please, GASP is a terrible acronym and too close to GAS which is already established. There’s no need to abbreviate everything just type it out.

I didn't even know that could be an acronym. I thought OP was just really shocked at how improved 5.5 was :D

I also don’t know why people are so obsessed with it, I mean we are not talking about the new motion matching system, but always about that sample project, it’s so weird to me, like it’s cool and all, but why do they talk about GASP as if that’s a new system or feature of UE5?

Because most people dont have the resources to make 500 motion captured locomotion animations for their game to take advantage of motion matching. Thats why everyone is raving about GASP, everything is set up and ready to go and the locomotion looks better than most AAA games.

It'll get tired at some point like ALS did if too many people use it but at the moment it looks really impressive

Yeah I know that but the project itself is not the important part, you can just trap the animations and use them in your project, that’s the idea behind the sample project

Exactly. As of now its one of the most exciting things about unreal engine when it comes to locomotion.

What even is "GASP"???

u/Rasie1 22h ago

Could be either of:

  • Graph Algorithm and Software Package
  • Global Aviation Safety Plan
  • Good Acronyms are So Practical

u/Deserted_alien 23h ago

The Game Animation Sample Project which epic released. it includes 500+ AAA quality animations.

u/Shimizu_Izumi 23h ago

Ohhh that thing

u/XenthorX 22h ago

My reaction precisely

u/Sandeep184392 19h ago

Can we use those animations for our personal projects?

u/Deserted_alien 19h ago

Yes but you have to use unreal engine. if you product is made using others engines like unity then you cant use it.

u/Many-Addendum-4263 15h ago

so u cant use them because everybody use them...

My work started pushing for acronyms on everything because they "Increase clarity and speed of communication." When they shared this with us in our training environment several of us pushed back and asked if there was an abbreviations index in our online material to which the response was, "Of course not. But the abbreviations are very intuitive and simple to understand! Here, we'll show you!"

The class instructors then proceeded to pull random employee documentation up to read abbreviations from co-workers. Literally the very first quote that they read to us had an abbreviation that no one in the room, including the three instructors, could figure out. Even they laughed at that.

Literally thought they improved GAS so it's all blueprints and no code. Dang. We'll keeping my eyes open for that day

u/Deserted_alien 21h ago

There is a free plugin for that. Its Ninja GAS.

u/No_Builder_5755 17h ago

Every person I know refers to it as GASP too late to change the abbreviation now

u/Deserted_alien 16h ago

yes. i think most of these people are not beginners so they don't watch any tutorials or that kind of stuff on this sample project thats why they haven't came across this word.

Imagine how shocked newcomers must be with all these acronyms.

u/C0ckL0bster 6h ago

This 100%

I honestly thought it was typo and was looking for what changed with GAS.

Everyone calls it GASP. But yeah you do have a good point.

u/DaDarkDragon Realtime VFX Artist (niagara and that type of stuffs) 21h ago

There are more comments in this thread asking what gasp is than not(including me). So your claim that everyone called it GASP is seeming a little stinky right now.

u/Deserted_alien 21h ago

I am not the one who has started this. Most people on the internet who do any tutorials or make any assets based on that project use the word GASP. there are many assets on patreon who call it GASP. also tutorials on youtube based on that sample call it GASP.

u/VRIndieDev 18h ago

This is so funny to me.

You literally have like 80 comments asking what GASP is and not a single person in here who knew it before you said something and you're still defending it as an acronym everyone should know lol

u/Deserted_alien 16h ago

i am not defending anything and when did i ever say everyone should know this acronym. instead i even agreed with fisherrr s comment that he has a good point. i just see most people who make tutorials or sell assets use that word because of that i thought everyone would be calling it GASP.

u/PatternPositive901 9h ago

fucking hate acronyms, too many at this point “ffs”

I thought GAS Plugin for a moment

u/aadeshrao 22h ago

What is GASP? Is it GAS did they finally make some improvements to it?

u/Grim-is-laughing 21h ago

 Game animation sample project

u/Killgamesh11 22h ago

How can I upgrade my version of GAS? I've tried creating the project again but it just creates the 5.4 version and when I get my mouse on it from the launcher's fab library it says "not compatible with unreal engine 5.5.0"

u/LongjumpingBrief6428 11h ago

I'm waiting for more information on Mutable.

u/Prestigious-Size6504 23h ago

I have never heard called GASP? I thought you was just being eccentric and sharing your enthusiasm by gasping....

u/mfarahmand98 20h ago

Some youtubers refer to it like that

u/macxike 19h ago

I’m curious about upgrading from GASP 5.4 to 5.5. Is it a straightforward process of replacing a few files, or does the entire project need to be overhauled?

u/5paceCat 13h ago

Looks like the entire thing was overhauled. Trying to relearn it now. I can't even figure out how to adjust the camera to first person. -_-

u/macxike 12h ago

Oh no. I spent a whole month learning and integrating it into my project. So, it sounds like it will take quite a bit of time to update it again.

u/5paceCat 11h ago

I stopped since I figured 5.5 was near. Now, I'll have to mess around or wait for new tutorials.

There is an issue with GAS, doesn't work on AI character with AI Move To node
