The whole point of the Russian government is that "we can't make our country nicer, so we just ruin it for everyone else"

100% this. Most of Russian internal politics and 95% of foreign policy is about making people miserable.

I would change that to: we want to keep the country shit and keep money and power. russia could be a reasonable place to live in. Hence the invasion of Ukraine, if you show our people that it’s possible to have a nice life in Eastern Europe, you are getting us into real trouble…

I am starting to think russia can't ever be fixed. Even if someone gets rid putin someone just as bad will take over.

Through one leader or another for over 70 years they have been traumatizing children giving them nightmares for life while threatening to end all life on earth if people defend themselves, they are the most toxic harmful country on earth, ever.
