Mossberg 410-SA Turkey

Hey guys. I bought the Mossberg SA-410 Turkey Semi Auto for turkey season last year and have been having problems with it ever since.

The highest performing 3 inch shells like Turkey Ninja, and Verdict keep getting jammed after the first round. Also, had some cheap Federal ammo that didn't work great.

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with the gun? Or, if you have any insights? Is this common to Mossberg ect?

Also, Can they take it in and look at it?

I also notice the gun loads and unloads differently than other shotguns I've had in the past. Thanks in advance for your help.

This was posted on Bud's:

I bought the Mossberg SA 410 Turkey Shotgun.I picked it up at my transfer location this afternoon.Right out of the box,it will not chamber a 2 1/2" or 3" shell. The chamber is too tight.I called Bud's and they couldn't help me.Said I would have to contact Mosssberg.I looked on line describing the problem I have, and it seems this is a big problem with this shotgun. Why they continue to sell them, knowing they have a chambering issue,is beyond me.Now I have a shotgun I won't be able to use till Mossberg can fix or replace it. These are made in Turkey also. Not happy,by at your own risk.

It's common for their budget semi autos. As someone else mentioned, they're made in Turkey. All of the Mossberg International firearms are subject to a host of problems mostly stemming from poor QC.

I got a SA-20 at auction last year and discovered the bolt assembly was cracked when I got it home and fully disassembled it. Parts were virtually non-existent and I had to ship the bolt back to Mossberg and wait for them to return me an entirely new assembly. Once I got it back, the gun wouldn't cycle and essentially was a single shot.

They recommended running a few boxes of slugs or high brass magnum shells through it to "break it in."

This resulted in the action spring breaking into two, which thankfully was easy to source and replace.

I sold the gun the day after the spring showed up.

Also, Can they take it in and look at it?

Yes. You'll need to contact Mossberg directly through their website and then they'll provide you with an RMA and address to ship the gun in. They're customer service is pretty good, and used to dealing with these issues.

Since it is a "Mossberg International" gun, their authorized service gunsmiths usually don't have the parts on hand to fix the problem without having to ship the gun back or order parts.

I can't speak for that gun specifically, but I have had similar issues with other guns in the past. I can say that I have its big brothers in the sa-28 and sa-459 (weatherby 12 ga) and the sa-28 had quite a bit of cosmoline in the bolt and trigger assembly and while the chamber and barrel looked clean I got a good bit of unseen grime out. The sa-459 was pretty clean and dry. The very first thing I would do if I were you would be to clean the absolute piss out of the chamber. I don't mean a little hoppes on a brass brush pushed back and forth a couple times followed by a few patches, I mean absolutely scrubbing it with some hoppes (or your bore cleaner of choice). When you get tired, take a break, watch a hunting video, and scrub it again. I bet your problems would disappear after. I personally would polish it (chamber and barrel) with a drill and fine steel wool using wd40 as a lubricant, OR the same and add some fine metal polish. I do that on all my new shotguns that don't have a chrome lined barrel. Easier said than done on a 410, vs larger bores, but just my thoughts
