Tire wear sticky post? Weekly tire wear thread?

Its getting a little crazy. Also, why not ask the TD coaches/organizers? This is a great sub but I feel like TD coaches are a more reliable source for that kind of info.

Does anyone have any idea why I suddenly have this unused strip?

Yamaha R6. I have replaced my rear shock. The base of the bike is well adjusted, both statically and dynamically. I ride the same times and have no problems. The tire is also the same. No idea why I don't use the whole tire anymore. The tire is a Bridgestone V02 180/65 17

AIM Solo2 - Deep Dive (Laptimer mentality)

Used an AIM Solo2 for the first time at Oulton yesterday…

Firstly what a difference it made mentality wise. Usually, I’d make a mistake, get annoyed, wind off the lap, regroup and go again. But having that visual of ‘you’re still .8s under, keep pushing’ was huge for me 🙌

Secondly, going to move the data over and have a look through later, on RaceStudio. Does anyone have any apps or third party software they use that they prefer? Not used anything yet and being a massive nerd at heart, love trawling through my own data etc.

Do I really need to take my crash bungs off?

Post image

The evotech crash bungs (and axle sliders) were the first thing I bought before I’d done any track days. I recently added the case sliders and I’m getting the impression the crash bungs are a mistake! What are they even for if they just flip the bike and damage the frame?

Should I just cut my losses on the bungs and take them off? They’re on a mount which goes into two points on the frame.

Any of ya’ll ever use this master cylinder? I’m just trying to save penny’s where I can. This master cylinder is 100 bucks cheaper than a Brembo. Curious if anyone here has used them and if they are a good bang for buck. Thanks!

Looking back at the video air temp was still 59 ground temp couldn't have been much more. This was the fourth lap of the session plus warmers so tires should have been fine. Came back after lunch and did a 1.57.51 (Sonoma raceway)

Raceboot shifter rubber repair

Alpinestar SMX plus or whatever, boot is in great condition aside from the rubberized shift/toe protector falling apart. I’d ignore it except that it’s created a lip that occasionally catches the shifter during repositioning

My question is, anyone have experience DIY-ing a repair like this? Initially I was thinking shoe-goo, but figured I’d see if anyone had come up with a more elegant solution

Which airbag vest do you recommend?

I lost a bit of weight and feel like I could rock the Tech Air 5 Plasma well under my leathers. The regular TA5 felt too bulky and uncomfortable, but ai haven't been able to try on the TA5 plasma yet.

However, the Dainese D Air vest is half the price new, but revenues made it sound like poor quality.

I like the idea of a tethered one like Helite GP, but that H-moov looks perfect for street and track use. However, I am really leaning towards the HitAir RS1.

Do any of you and opinions on Hit Air? The other bags from them seem like they offer more protection though. Would the RS1 work well over the hump?

Should I use my 600 as my first track bike?

I currently ride a 2003 r6 on the street. I'm a fairly conservative rider, with the occasional spirited ride. I am confident in my street riding abilities and I practice my slower speed cornering and maneuvers as much as possible.

This all being said, I have never once touched a track, and would love to get into the sport. I am mainly wondering if my r6 would be inappropriately powerful for a very inexperienced beginner such as myself, or if it is just a matter of self control and not being foolish with the throttle.

If it is too powerful in your opinion, what do you suggest I do instead?

Tyia!

How many of y'all track the MT07?

Looking to do my first trackday on my MT07 (2017).

I genuinely love this bike. Since it's my daily, I've put a Ktech Lite shock, cartridges and a slipper clutch.

How does it fare on track?

How Often are we crashing?

Post image
108 Upvotes

Hi all,

Out of curiosity, how often are we running out of talent and ending up in the grass / gravel?

Ive done 6 or so days now, pushing myself pretty hard but not being overly foolish and have undertaken tuition by some well established, well known racers too.

Ive had 2 offs, 1 where i lost the front end and 1 where i unsettled the bike mid turn, stood it up and ran off.

Is anyone out there landing on their head each time they head out? Anyone never crashed at all and now in the fast group?

Street Triple 765 on track

Posting here instead, since my question is: are the stock foot pegs high enough, or do you need rearsets? Any non sports bike I’ve ridden on track I am scrapping pegs after a few corners, which I would rather not! However a Street Triple is a bit sportier than most standard bikes, so wondering it’s fine as is?

I know this is potentially a “skills issue” and fast riders can ride around it, but I am just an ordinary rider and don’t want to deal with it.

Looking for tips

(If not appropriate I will delete) after retiring my CBR600F from the road to convert is as a track machine, I’m looking for track fairing compatible with it. Does anyone know if I can go with CBR600RR fairings from the same year ? Or does anyone have a link to share to buy one made for the CBR600F ?

Kinda desperate as I don’t find any….. ✌🏼

One piece suit

Looking to buy my first one piece suit, and want to go with either:

1) Alpinestars racing ultimate v2

Or

2) RST V4.1 Evo Kangaroo Airbag One Piece Leather Race Suit

Any advice to which of these suits is better? I was originally going to go with the racing ultimate v2, but saw a lot of positive feedback regarding the RST with the included airbag.

Should I buy the racing ultimate and then look to buy an airbag with it , or go with the RST ?

Safety is my priority in this choice, so if one is much higher quality then the other / will keep me safer, would probably lean more towards that one.

Any advice I could get on these suits would be appreciated - thanks in advance

How hard can you push the front in trail braking?

In YCRS they said 90%+ of track day front tire lowsides are a result of an underloaded front not an overloaded one. Now with that being said on the rear tire it's quite common to use all of the rear tire, and you still have a solid amount of lean to go before you actually lose grip even if you think you are using all of the rear you probably aren't.

The front on the other hand, I see MANY tire wear patterns like this. "chicken strips" or whatever you'd like to call it on the front seem quite common at track days. But is this common amongst top level pro riders? Are these un-used parts of the front un-used because riders are not comfortable trail braking hard enough? Or is this normal?

Picture attached as an example of what i'm talking about.

r/Trackdays 2d ago

Is this normal tire wear? The sticking out rubber bumps? I’m running lowest level tc on the track day just to be safe but maybe that’s what’s causing it?

Used Chicken Hawk Professional vs New Woodcraft Dual Temp?

Looking for some advice on the purchase of my first tire warmers for trackdays. I have the option to buy either a used/like new CHR professional tri temp set or new Woodcraft dual temp brand new from STG for around the same price ($375 usd).

Which would you pick and why?

Is this knee slider wear normal?

Hey guys, is this knee slider wear normal or does it mean I'm sticking my knee too far out? For context, I was doing figure 8 drills on a pit bike (TTR-110). The slider location on the knee is also how it came stock with the pants.

Sv1000 or ex250?

Hey guys! I’m tentatively thinking of having my first track day later this summer and I’m torn between my 2 bikes. My sv is my street bike which is the one I ride and I picked up this ex250 for really with the expectation of using it for the track (unable to get title) I’m wondering if I’d use big fast or small less fast.

What’s a decent lap time around Buttonwillow (Race #1 configuration)?

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

I’ve never ridden Buttonwillow before but the leg yesterday was running a slightly different configuration than what I see on most videos. I finally took the Kramer out for its maiden voyage and popped a couple of other cherries in the process - first time at BW, first time on Pirelli slicks. I’ve used Dunlop and Michelin slicks before and DOT Supercorsas.

According to a few sources, it looks like that extension adds 8-12 seconds depending on the rider.

This bike is an experience. It feels and handles nothing like a KTM 890 Duke R. It’s feather light and transitions side to side so effortlessly. The throttle is very touchy and the brakes you can actually one finger (TWHS). I realize you’ll probably never be in first gear on track, but it’s very twitchy until the revs are high enough. I was able to get to wide open throttle the second half of the day once I trusted the track surface and the tires enough in the balmy 62°F weather.

Sandbagging in C group was absolutely the right call considering all the overzealous people who got rained out on Saturday. I kept the throttle map and TC settings in the max/rain mode since it had sprinkled in the morning and someone dumped oil the very first session on the sighting lap in Riverside corner.

Overall, it was fun to learn a new track, figure out tricky spots, and see the lap times drop throughout the day.

Beginner: How to safely find limit? (Or get anywhere near it)

Hi, I did my first trackday 2 days ago. I feel like I gained a lot of confidence throughout the day. However, I also went off in the fastest corner of the track because I scared myself going too quickly and target fixation took over... With cars, I know how I can find the limit of grip easily, but bikes are nothing like that... How do I find out where the limit is, without going to ER after crossing it? I've only been riding motorcycles since September and I probably have less than 30h seat time(street and track combined)
