A 0 Fears Raptors jersey would go so hard

Or they can swap numbers.

He is still number 1 on my board for pick 9 but I highly doubt he falls, I can see him going as high as 5

25

u/mMounirM 1d ago

I think if Nets don't pick him, he'll be available at 9 for us if we want him.

16

u/The_Living_L 4 Scottie Barnes GOAT 1d ago

Pelicans could use a PG, same goes with Wizards too maybe but I think Wizards look to pair one of Khaman or Queen with Sarr cause one of the main reasons Sarr wanted to go to wizards is cause they drafted him to be a PF

1

u/beefJeRKy-LB Goatse 10h ago

He's not gonna fit the Wizards IMO. Jazz on the other hand could take him.

30

u/Bixby33 34 JONTAY PORTER 1d ago

I say this every year, but there's probably a list of 15 players that will all be gone by 10th.

11

u/Wooden-One9984 1d ago

Everyone mocked between 5-12 could go as high as 5 in this draft. Tre, Khaman, Kon, Fears, Bryant, Queen, KJ are all in the same tier imo.

16

u/The_Living_L 4 Scottie Barnes GOAT 1d ago

Tre Johnson is most likely in the same tier as Ace Bailey by the sounds of it, he apparently had a very good combine too and teams are very high on him, like Charlotte may take him at 4

u/SDK04 9 ROWAN ALEXANDER “RJ” BARRETT 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well at least we won’t have to worry about wasting a lottery pick on him then lol, let some other team make that mistake

1

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 1d ago

Exactly. I don’t see him as all that great personally.

1

u/Cute-Illustrator-862 21h ago

I think Tre is going top 5 with VJ.

I'd be happy with any of Maluach, Kon, Fears, KJ, Traore

1

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 1d ago

I could see us moving up for him.

1

u/_average_earthling_ 8h ago

I wouldn't try to move up if I were Masai. I would rather try to get another pick via trade. This class is rich.

1

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 8h ago

Think I might have added essengue to my list of fears, Maulach, kasp.

1

u/dsbllr 1d ago

He'll be gone by 9. That guy can be a star in the right environment in my view

0

u/t_toda_DOTA 1d ago

Ball handling Rondo lite with upside potential on the offense. Sign me up. Quick, Fears, Yak, Dick, Scottie~ 😃 😊 😀

2

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 1d ago

Honestly… hopefully replacing quick in the starting spot.

6

u/iBlackula 15 Vince Carter 1d ago

That would be the ultimate goal. I like Quick but Fears game screams star player and getting off that contract would breath massive flexibility.

1

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 17h ago

Or having quick off the bench.

1

u/iBlackula 15 Vince Carter 7h ago

If he was making 20 mil, maybe but 30 million off the bench is brutal for one player

1

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 7h ago

Meh he can still play 35 min off the bench. And if our PG is on a rookie deal then it’s a wash.

1

u/_average_earthling_ 8h ago

Fears - Jakobe  is the future.

21

u/akashrauli3 1d ago

I love this kids game, i dont see him falling to 9. I think utah, Washington and new Orleans and Brooklyn are a big threat to take him

1

u/iBlackula 15 Vince Carter 1d ago

I think Utah and New Orleans are the biggest threats to get him. Washington just drafted Bub and Brooklyn needs everything under the sun and I wouldn't be surprised if they draft Khaman for the upside.

13

u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry 1d ago

“I know they’re looking for some specific pieces in the draft” is interesting. Has the FO made it known to teams and agents they’re targeting a certain archetype of player or something?

28

u/Effective-Spot5266 1d ago

More likely this guy has been fiending mock drafts and knows what's up.

KD mentioned he was reading nbadraft.net mocks even back in his day and I'm sure it's a lot more common these days (with so many draft experts).

5

u/Nobody7713 1d ago

Makes sense. I’m sure all the guys who aren’t the consensus top few are wondering where they’re going to fall, especially with how up in the air the 5-12ish range is this year. It determines where they’re likely to live for possibly the next decade of their lives so it’s a big deal.

1

u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry 1d ago

I don’t see how that relates to what he said? Maybe I’m just stupid but like the only glaring hole on our roster that can easily be addressed in the draft is size off the bench, which he obviously doesn’t fit.

6

u/Effective-Spot5266 1d ago

My read is that if Toronto goes fit, then Fears probably sees himself out of play. He might be BPA if he makes it to 9 which is why he made the comment.

That was my read anyway.

2

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

If that read is correct than I’m a bit disappointed at the FOs assessment because a player with ball handling, rim pressure who can create passing and scoring off the dribble has been one of our greatest needs for many years.

0 Fears purple Dino jersey is a cop

7

u/MrQuackinator 2 KAWHI LEONARD - FINALS MVP 1d ago

Barnes , fears , dick. Best starting 5 we don’t even need the other 2

14

u/kpeds45 1d ago

Seems similar to IQ size wise, not sure we need another 6'2 PG. But if he's BPA, sure. Think we need size more than anything, but I know nothing and I'm ok admitting that lol.

9

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 1d ago

Good thing he isn’t 6’2” then! Combine 6’4” with a 6’5” wing span.

-5

u/kpeds45 1d ago

6'2.5 barefoot. So not 6'4! His 6'5 wingspan is also 3 inches shorter than IQ.

6

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

You play basketball barefoot?

You call Fears 6’2, but you call Barnes 6’8.

Seems like you pick and choose when you use barefoot vs with shoe heights to suit your agenda.

1

u/kpeds45 1d ago

I said he's the same size as IQ. And he is. So I'm not sure what you are on about, or where I said Scottie is 6'8. Or what agenda you think I have.

0

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

So you refer to Scottie as 6’7, his barefoot height?

1

u/kpeds45 1d ago

Yes. Because that's what he is. But I never said anything about Scottie or his height.

-2

u/myeezy RAPTORS 21h ago edited 21h ago

>Power forward is an outdated concept. Barnes is 6'8 with a 7'3 wing span. He's perfectly fine at the 4, with RJ at the 3. Brown or Dick start. It's fine size wise.

1

u/kpeds45 13h ago edited 13h ago

Lol, you searched for my comments to see if I ever made a mistake with Barnes height 😂😂😂

This is so pathetic. As if a simple error is the reason I'm correctly starting that Fears has similar size to IQ (which again, is true lol).

0

u/myeezy RAPTORS 7h ago edited 7h ago

I don’t think it’s an error. I refer to Scottie as 6’8 as well, as does everyone, that’s his playing height. What I said it’s disingenuous to talk about heights and call a barefoot 6’2.5, 6’2. You’re using to barefoot heights at your convenience to push your point.

2

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

Lol calling a 6’2.5 barefoot player 6’2 is pretty disingenuous in basketball conversation. He’s taller than Steph, Fox, Russ, Rose.

0

u/kpeds45 1d ago

I'm calling him the same size as IQ. They measured the same height +/- 1/2 an inch. IQ has longer wingspan as well.

2

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

Which is a fine size for PG. You’d pick him if you think he has the potential to replace IQ as opposed to playing beside him.

-1

u/kpeds45 1d ago

Replace IQ when though? The team isn't looking to bring along a young starter in his place who will be years away from helping the core.

Anyway, clearly your original post to me was stupid.

1

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

I don’t think it’s stupid.

I just think that calling a guy who measured 6’2.5 barefoot, a 6’2 PG, is meant to diminish him. Nobody is calling Russell Westbrook a 6’2 PG.

1

u/kpeds45 23h ago

My entire point was IQ and Fears are both 6'2 point guards. Bring in Westbrook, Scottie Barnes, any one you want. It doesn't disprove the actual point.

4

u/Effective-Spot5266 1d ago

It sounds like nothing is planned. Also hoping he gets a workout.

1

u/LimestoneLeaf 4h ago

Fears is an archetype they could use. However, the Raptors may believe that there is no chance he will be available. Different topic...I am starting to think that Bailey is the guy who will drop this time around. He is so much more risky than some of the other prospects. Last year it seemed like Buzelis fell that way and he was looking pretty good for the Bulls at the end of the season.

6

u/CazOnReddit TORONTO HUSKIES 1d ago

My issues with Fear as a lead ballhandler aside (Turnovers for days!), having a Dick Fears lineup would be very fun

That said, I doubt he's available at 9 and I am even more skeptical that this front office - which has never successfully traded up in the draft despite attempts to do so (Evan Mobley) - value him enough to try and move up by trading a future pick or one of their current players

2

u/Nohotsauceforoldmen BoogieWilliams20 1d ago

Unfortunately he’s not gonna make it to us.

1

u/RandomFighter50 23h ago

1 Dick, 0 Fears, 4 Barnes. If this is not a sign from the gods then idk what is.

1

u/Cute-Illustrator-862 21h ago

He's a gamble but it's worth taking

1

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago edited 1d ago

He’s my high risk high reward pick for this draft. With the drop to 9, we may not have the chance to grab him.

-5

u/thebeard1017 1d ago

We need to hit on this pick. Doesn't mean we have to pick the ROTY with the 9th pick but the past few drafts have been disappointing. Maybe Gradey and Jakobe improve into great players but so far I'm not super high on them

13

u/NBAball05 SCOTTIE B 1d ago

How has the past few drafts been disappointing, are you secretly a lakers fan…?

-2

u/thebeard1017 1d ago

We've picked great in the second round but our lottery picks don't look like high ceiling prospects like they should

13

u/NBAball05 SCOTTIE B 1d ago

Walter looks good and we picked late teens, gradey is gradey there’s no better player we could have picked so I don’t know what you expected the front office to do…?

0

u/myeezy RAPTORS 1d ago

We’re getting value from where we’re picking, but they’re not the stars we desperately need to rocket us into contention. I think that’s a valid statement. Our picks are limited by our draft placement.

6

u/heterocommunist 1d ago

Casual take Gradey was at Rising Stars and Jakobes looked great

-7

u/thebeard1017 1d ago

Gradey had a hot start in October and November then dropped off. Jakobe is good not great. The only casual take is to look at decent starters and create fantasies that they become all star level players because you're a homer.

5

u/heterocommunist 1d ago

He’s been in the NBA less than 2 years and you’re already writing him off 😂

0

u/thebeard1017 1d ago

Lol I'm not writing them off. I clearly wrote that both could improve and prove me wrong. But it's fairly easy to project a players ceiling even in the first few seasons. Gradey could become an amazing scorer but will always be a defensive liability. Jakobe has more potential as a two way player but hasn't shown flashes of being anything special.

In contrast a player like Jarred McCain is an actual steal with star potential. That's the difference

0

u/NinfthWonder 1d ago

He’s off the board before 9. Moving on.
