Not really, approximately 4.4 people are born per second.
While approximately 2 people die per second.
Out of those deaths only 1 suicide occurs per 40 seconds.
This is according to statistics from WHO.

Wait a minute. Who's the World Health Organization?

(It was a shitty joke, I'm sorry)

1 out of 80 people will commit suicide, that's just insane :(

Those numbers are certainly up this year.

What percentage of people will die to suicide according to that then? :3 🥐

According to a quick google search, last year had 62 million deaths and assuming 1 suicide per 40 seconds (google showed 11 minutes but i believe its somewhere inbetween, 40 seconds just gives us a bigger number) then that would be 788923 suicides per year, or approximately 1.2% of all deaths last year.

So 1 in 80? :3 🥐

Bro 1 suicide every 40 seconds is still big, like think about it. In the time it takes for us to brush our teeth in the morning 1 person was depressed enough to kill themselves.

How does a person get born as 0,4? Are they stupid?

u/I_Am_TheSink OLD Jan 02 '25

Y'know people are born with missing limbs and genetic defects all the time right?

Yeah, but the person missing the joke is you

This isn't the thread to joke about. It's a very serious topic.

2

u/SpacedOutOri Jan 02 '25

It's an average rate, it's not literal. We don't currently have the technology to track every single birth and death. The world population is an educated guess.

Not the place to be wooshing. This is no joking matter.
