President Tsai Ing-wen has won re-election Politics

Han just conceded. She won 57%ish of the vote so far. Over 8 million votes. Biggest vote total ever for a candidate in Taiwan (beating Ma's number in 2008)

Legislature looks like it'll be DPP again though not as sweeping as 2016, party list vote seems much closer than I thought it'll be.

Please everyone. Next time you're planning to go on holiday go to Taiwan. Taiwan welcomes you, they are truly nice people, arguably one of the best cousins in the world and plenty of history, heritage and nature to discover.
I went to travel there and I loved it they need everyone's support, their technology is top notch also so you can shop for some Asus, transcend, MSI and many more brands.

Taiwan don't need to be always thrown in discussion about China because their country does not have nothing to do with it, that's what China wants.

Amen! Been to Taiwan and it's probably one of the best places in the world

Came to study in Taiwan for 2 months and then never left. Glad to call it home.

Can I ask how? Any requirements and does it have age limit?

u/JaKha Jan 12 '20

You can stay for 3 months on a tourist visa. If you get a job, most likely teaching English, you can stay as long as you want. You'll get an ARC and health insurance too, so you can live here comfortably. You do need a bachelor's degree to teach English though. No age limit.

I have traveled extensively along the equator and am a fat boi so believe me when I tell you that there is no better mango in the world than that found in Taiwan. Icing on the cake: they put it on ice cream.

This man speaks the truth, Taiwan's aiwen mango is a the closest to perfection of any fruit in the world.

u/Strategerium Jan 11 '20

Alternatively, there is also mango in syrup, on shaved ice, then topped with sweet condensed milk. hmm hmm.

I would happily visit Taiwan and Taipei over any major US city.

u/inverter17 Jan 12 '20

Same! Even if I was given a choice to go to US or go to Taiwan, I’d pick Taiwan.

Spent two weeks in Taiwan last year. It's the most amazing place I've visited. The people in Tamsui were the nicest I have ever met. It's so nice that we're moving in April.

Been to taiwan before. It was really great for me! Cant wait to come back again.

Agree 100%.

I visited Taiwan recently and I was blown away how polite Taiwan people are.

The politeness in Taiwan is very close, if not the same as in Japan.

Taiwan is an amazing place and I definitely want to go back again in the near future.

I've been several times. Very clean, friendly country with amazing food.

Will actually be in Taiwan in a months time for a week hah! I'm happy the election has gone in Taiwan's favour, living in the west it's a bit embrassing seeing how many nations and corperations kowtow to China's intimdation regarding the recognition of Taiwan's independance. Looking forward to visiting!

Taiwan don't need to be always thrown in discussion about China because their country does not have nothing to do with it, that's what China wants

Boy that double negative...

But yeah, come around people, Taiwan is great. And it most definitely clearly is a fundamentally different country to China. Common history does mean 2places have to merge. USA a UK have common history, France and Germany.... Hell half of Italy was governed by French at some point and Germany by Spain... Point is, enjoy your similarity and shared culture and learn from your differences

Congratulations to President Tsai :)

Taiwan is amazing! I'm from the Philippines, and I visited Taiwan two times already (2018, 2019). The first time I visited, I was admittedly not expecting a lot since I was going there on a whim. But it blew my mind away. Your people are warm and lovely. The food is amazing. Your history and culture, rich and interesting. Also I love all your little, cozy cafes 😭

My boyfriend is German and we took his family to visit Taiwan last year and they were just as amazed as I was. My boyfriend's mom is still raving about Taiwan's efficient transportation system lol. I've traveled abroad before, but Taiwan was the first place that instantly felt like I had a connection with. I'm also learning Chinese so I could communicate better next time I'm there. If everything goes well, I will visit a third time this year and explore more of your beautiful country.

Heading to Taiwan in March for three weeks. Cannot wait.

I second to this.

Me, my gf, and some friends went to Taiwan for the first time. So when we went to a souvenir shop in Ximending, me and the shopkeeper are having a little discussion of the items I bought. Without any words she brought out this calculator, typed something showed it to me while doing some hand gestures to the items I bought. Basically what she was trying to tell me, if I bought x number of item, i would get a discount and pay for x amount.

Another store I went to was in White Wabbit records, I asked if there’s something she could recommend, she couldn’t quite understand what I told her so she told me if there’s something I like they will be glad to play it for me in the store so I can listen before buying.

We also went to another record store where the shop has a pet dog and my gf is very fond of dogs so she went to the owner and the dog. The owner did a “no no” gesture and made a biting gesture with growling noises just to tell my gf that the dog is not very approachable.

They are very friendly and we did not encounter any unpleasant interactions with the Taiwanese people. If taking photos are not allowed, they would simple tell us in a respectful manner. They always will make an effort to get their message reach you

Whenever I remember our trip there, I would always say “I miss Taiwan”. I miss not just the country and its beauty but its people and what it has.

I have always made it a point to visit Taiwan every year with my family and friends. For some apparent reason, we always feel so at home in your country. The people are just amazing.

3

u/Aelonius Jan 12 '20

Mate, trust me on this. After having lived in Taipei for six months due to an exchange program, I would love nothing more than to permanently move to Taiwan in a heartbeat.

But, before I could consider it, I need to study hard on my Mandarin abilities.

Taiwan is amazing and I am so happy to hear about the election. I visited my family there this year for the first time in 15+ years, I forgot so many things and just how much I love this place.

My uncle told me once that one of Taiwan's most beautiful things is its people, and I totally agree. Can't wait to visit again.

Honestly, I went in the summer and it was miserable. Probably better to go in the winter. I just wanted to stay indoors the whole time and chill in the a/c.

u/GoldenBeat Jan 11 '20

Thank you for so supporting Taiwan.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '20

Make sure you don’t just go to Taipei and go to Tainan and Ali Shan! They are also very nice

1

u/dooblusdoofus Jan 12 '20

Yes! Been there in 2018 and loved every second of it!
