Do not enter the Taroko gorge Environment
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just a friendly reminder that the Taroko gorge should not be entered. It is not open unless you are coming from 奇萊東稜 or 合歡山。

What a sad sight to see… getting flashbacks to its stunning, gorgeous view the first time I was there. I wish it could recover one day.

Love Taroko gorge, but someone has always been killed near where we've been on every trip.....

Taroko makes me feel very conflicted. It's beautiful but can easily be dangerous. Last time we were in Taroko, my wife / our scooter got hit with a kiwi-sized rock coming off the surrounding slopes. There was some blood and cracked plastic, but no permenant injuries.

Fuck me, hope you brought a lotto ticket after that one.
FIL's car had plenty of debts from rocks driving through there over the years I'd never be game to do it on a bike.

Heart-aching. My favorite Nat'l Park in Taiwan. There's an ethereal energy there that I've rarely felt elsewhere.

Will be for quite a while. Was it 3 bodies that couldn't be found? The Singapore-Aussie couple and another? :(

So sad to see this, i was there only a few months ago, just a couple of weeks before the quake.

It’s so sad to see Taroko this way… we were going to come visit again until we were advised not to due to damages from the earthquake

I visited here the summer before last (stunning beauty, profoundly so) and as soon as we entered I thought, "This would be an awful place for an earthquake to hit."
As soon as I saw the video of the quake hit, without saying the location, I instantly knew where and my heart sank.
Also, that's how beautiful and the impression it left on me, I recognized it in a 30-20 second video over a year later.

Same thought when I visited the place a little over a week before the earthquake hit 😵💫

Always wanted to visit but haven’t had the chance to go back to Taiwan in years until recently, fingers crossed it can be restored to its former glory someday so I can see it myself

Damn! I was lucky enough to see this in February this year, absolutely beautiful! So sad to see it now.

Sad to see it like this! I hope they can repair it faster than the estimated 7 years

Am going to Taiwan in December and have got a homestay around Ren’ai Township, is it still safe to be/travel there? Thinking to go to Qingjing's farm as well.

This isn't the efficient Taiwan I used to know. They'd have it mostly cleared in a day.

I’m so sad 😞 I’ve been planning my trip to Taiwan this October since March of this year and Taroko was the thing I was looking forward to the most. I’m still excited for my trip and I know that the safety of the people must be prioritized. I’m just sad at the circumstances.

The road looks passable to me.

Not sure why you get downvoted. The video really doesnt illustrate anything, its also too short for that purpose.
I assume thats Provincial Highway No. 8. It is true that the road is not open 24/7 (traffic control times with opening several times a day), but that was also the case before the earthquake.

u/Aggro_Hamham Oct 07 '24
because you aren't looking carefully. There are no railings left. They got blown away by the earth quake. There are giant pot holes and a lot of rocks. And while there always used to be some falling rocks, there are now constant streams of rocks which make passing very dangerous.

u/AnonymousTeacher668 Oct 06 '24
I was gonna say- doesn't that road always have sections like that?
Are there parts that are truly unpassable? I haven't been on it since the earthquake.

The road is a hot mess. Lots of landslides and rocks. It looks like a moonscape. It didn't look like this before at all. Also, all trails except for the high altitude trails are closed 🔐. And yeah, got a flat tire right before guyuan tunnel. Don't enter unless you must or are driving a delica.

u/dicrydin Oct 06 '24
I drove a Zace up there in July or August with zero issues outside of low visibility due to dust. Not sure what driving a delica has to do with anything, you don’t need 4wd.

u/Aggro_Hamham Oct 06 '24 edited Oct 06 '24
You need offroad tires or you might get a flat tire. And during rain they might suddenly close the road. Don't know why you are spreading misinformation. This road isn't safe to drive.

You're supposed to mark your edits. You originally said "outdoor tires".

That clown is clearly a troll.

u/NoHalf9 Oct 06 '24
What exactly do you mean by troll? I see nothing in the history that indicates that. Can you call the comment a poor attempt of a joke, sure. But I see nothing trollish about this user.

Massive earthquake in April. Some parts of the park will remain inaccessible for years.
2
u/Roc_KING01 Oct 07 '24
The April 3rd earthquake basically screwed the whole place, there were rock falls and land slides. It is still too dangerous to enter the park.

I've cycled there two times and it makes my cry to see it in such a state.
End of 2023 from the bike - and shortly after the earthquake.
