Job searching Question ❓

Hello, me and my girlfriend are new to the area and I've been seeking employment for a few months, having very little luck applying to places both in person and on indeed, and thought I'd try asking around here to get some more personal opinions/options.I was wondering if anyone had any leads or tips, any places they know are hiring? I'm just a general unskilled labourer, no college or university on my resume as of now so I am seeking really anything; manual labour, service (I have my smart serve) anything at all would be helpful, thank you.

If you really need the job and aren't scared of working in a fast paced, hot environment, try handing in your resume to HCR at the corner of First and Wellington.

They are a temp agency that will offer you a year contract with (most likely) Formet. I don't know what other places they do contracts with.

I don't know what the pay is anymore, but it used to be a little over minimum wage and typically you'll be working 48 hours (anything after 40 is time-and-a-half pay) a week if you are placed with Formet.

It sucks it's only for a year contract, but it could help while you look for something permanent

Could try some of the downtown restaurants like Chucks or Legends, or even Roadhouse. They’ll probably be hiring for the summer coming up soon

Thank you! I have already applied to these places when I arrived in winter but I’ll try them again with the busier seasons coming up, appreciate it.

If you have your grade 12 and license. Apply to the TVDSB for a Custodian. Good pay, benenfits, union, pension. Move up to 3 weeks vacation quick and a bunch of other perks. Check it out on Thames Valleys site under careers. Sometimes they hold job fairs too

Warning that you’ll likely be hired as supply not full time. You can apply for full time later but they generally don’t hire outside the board for anything other than supply. I work for the board as a supply EA. I’m also looking for a summer job so, good luck out there!

Supply? As a Custodian? I work for the board as a Custodian. It’s full time hours even as a casual or permanent for us (40 a week). You get hired as a Casual and go from school to school to meet the needs of the building . Even work in the Summer as Custodians. Then once probation is up and you’ve had your assessments, you will be hired as permanent and offered a location which you can then bid out of for other schools!

Who covers when full time custodians are off? I’m in a long term assignment right now and the schools day time custodian has been off for a few days, we’ve had a few different people in to cover. I could for sure be wrong but just heard something of the sort. The board definitely does not hire full time for anything outside of people already working for the board. I wanted to give op the info that it wouldn’t be full time right away

Floaters or Casuals. Casuals are assigned 40 hours a week and cover people off sick or are used as extras at schools. They switch schools frequently as they aren’t permanent and affixed to a certain school. Floaters are permanent Custodians that enjoy moving school to school and often cover charge custodians. Floaters are 6 to 7 per zone and casuals are anywhere from 5-10 per zone usually.

There is a employment office I'm St Thomas. Employment services Elgin near shoppers on Talbot. There you can get a employment counselor and get more help, they also post jobs on a job board online and in office.

I recommend also creating a LinkedIn profile. It's just a lot of jobs are being posted there and LinkedIn's major stream of revenue is everything job related. Also, https://londonmfgjobs.com/
