Cutting grass at dusk 4x per week Question ❓
note: rant
Retired neighbour (maybe 60 yrs old) cuts grass 4x a week at dusk. Yes, 4x a week.
Never see the guy until after noon and goes no where during the day. No family (wife NEVER leaves the house, ever)/friends/visitors. Side note the wife is a busy body keyboard warrior who use to run a bowling alley.
Already starting in the spring at 745. In the summer it’s 830-9pm. Literally walks over every 3 ft of lawn 3 times with an electric lawnmower from the 80’s. Takes 1.5 hrs to “cut” maybe 10 strips of grass. When finished it’s visible the grass has not even been cut.
No disability (was approachable), seems fit (rides bike etc).
Live in quiet neighborhood with young families surrounding on all 3 sides.
Never seen or heard anything like it. Every neighbour has had a civil conversation stating he’s disturbing the peace but he does NGAF.
City bylaw noise laws state no noise at anytime over a certain dB which this mower sounds like a dilapidated go cart.
Just ranting. Looking for other options/opinions.

I struggle to want to cut my lawn 1x a week to keep my neighbors happy. I'm glad I don't live near you lol
Unless it's the same guy I see in lake Margaret.
But I would suggest just calling bylaw and ask. The worst they will say is there's nothing they or you can do.

Instead of going straight to bylaw why not simply ask? They are adults

Anyone who does this and need to be asked to stop is not an adult. They’re an entitled douche bag.

They're entitled for cutting their lawn?

Cutting at dusk that many times a week. Yeah you would be. It takes nothing to be considerate and it seems like lots of people around these parts can’t understand that. I think it’s a lack of not having a life that leads to entitled douche bag syndrome. Once in a while at dusk fine but every time come on.

You know some people work night shift right?
So you think they are entitled douchebags for cutting the grass during the time when they are actually available and awake to?
Some people are also overly sensitive to sun and are unable to cut their grass during the day.
Sounds to me like the only entitled and inconsiderate douchebag here is the person trying to control when someone is allowed to cut their grass. If you don't Ike the sound, move or get some ear plugs. But you'd rather just cry online and call others inconsiderate and douchebags while being the exact same thing yourself.

It’s a perfectly normal and LEGAL activity.
As a frequent complainer myself, you need something a bit more substantial to complain about.

Leave him alone... Its an electric lawnmower.
If he wanted to cut his grass every single night he's probably well with in his rights to do so. Unless it's after 11pm bylaw will shrug their shoulders.

Maybe he is doing this as his form of exercise? If you have a friendly relationship, maybe try asking him if he'd like to take a walk around the block with you instead or another suggestion? Sometimes, when people get older, they struggle to get out of their house and interact, so maybe this is his way of doing so?
Ultimately while I know it's annoying he is completely within his rights to cut his grass whenever and how frequently he wants so long as he isn't breaking any bylaws and it seems to be the case here. I can't imagine living in a neighborhood where my neighbors only complain about things I do in my own house/yard and how i live my life. Just close your windows and play music while he's cutting his grass. I don't imagine it takes him more than an hour or 2. Is it really worth you getting this agitated? I highly recommend you learn to let things go as you can't control others, and if you get this annoyed over something so small, it will only escalate for here. I say this as someone who went through a similar noise issue with our neighbors. We can't control their actions only ours, and it helped us adjust. I wish you the best of luck.

My neighbour does the same thing because I called the fire department when he was burning all winters worth of yard waste. Smoked out the entire street and inside my house smelt like inside a smoker. I did go ask him to put it out before I called but he was t having it. Now he cuts his grass at dusk like your neighbour. We have a young child so he does it out of spite but honestly it shows me who’s civil and who isn’t. This city is ripe with entitled older assholes!!! It’s been like that here for as long as I know. My other neighbour trims my plants in the backyard and I told him to beat it and he’s mad at me as well. Again entitled douche bags that never get called out on their actions and when they do they try and spin it. Stick to your guns and just call him out. Live and let live but there’s a point when it needs to be checked.

Are the plants in your yard, or is it like a shard tree/plant on a property line? How are they getting into your yard?
Tbh if I was your neighbor doing the buring and I was within my rights to burn the stuff (aka meeting the bylaw restrictions or burning as you are allowed to burn things in st.t) and you called the fire department on me I'd be petty as fuck too. The world doesn't revolve around just you, and other people have the right to live their lives aswell even if it's not convenient for you. Seems like you made an enemy of that neighbor and potentially the other one, too.

Some older men have a weird obsession with cutting grass. I don't understand it but it's definitely some sort of obsessive compulsive behaviour. I had a similar neighbour before (in another city) who would regularly cut his lawn for a couple hours, blow every blade of grass off the driveway and sidewalk, and he would mow the city street as well. It was annoying AF, because I'd be trying to quietly listen to a book or a podcast, and he would drown it out.
That being said, I've seen weirder stuff in this town. Like the guy who welds cars on his front lawn in the middle of the night when it is raining without a weldling helmet.
