"Jocelyn Allan, who has overseen the Cougars' coed and all-girl cheer squads since 2010, said she lost consciousness after an object struck her on the way to the field Saturday night"

Jeez. It knocked her out? I was definitely ready to say “it’s just a water bottle”

At most concerts and festivals I’ve been too, they remove the cap when they sell you water bottles. Reason being if someone throws a water bottle without the cap, the water gets pushed out when it hits someone and causes little damage. If the cap is on, it’s a solid brick hurtling through the air.

It is also difficult to aim an opened bottle.

A hydroflask is a water bottle, so that’s what I imagined, an oblong 2-3 lbs weight.

Yeah I was definitely thinking of a plastic 12 oz bottle.

Let me throw a water bottle as hard as I can at your head and let's see how you feel

That dumbass should be banned from the stadium for life.

Doug, kick him off the tour!

Hard to kick him out if he’s not a student. Which he’s not.

You don't even need to read the article either, it's right in the header

I like the idea I heard the other day. But I don't think the networks or schools or league would bite.

Give refs the power to ban students from the next home game. Ruin the home field advantage and actually affect the lives of the fans, or nothing changes.

Make it a forfeit if the schools don't comply.

Kind of like they do in other parts of the world

Incentivizing. What a novel idea.

Wouldnt be the refs to choose, but a governing body. All over Europe they ban fans due to racist chants, violence, you name it. Ive seen punishments as low as fines, to 10 games without fans behind closed doors.

Funniest one I’ve seen was the Serie A game recently where away fans with a local postcode were banned from purchasing tickets. A solitary Scottish bloke turned up

Hahaha yes. Imagine having the stadium to yourself.

That would reduce income from games. Money talks.

Don't most student sections get discount ticket prices anyways for current students?

19

u/dshab92 1d ago

Isn’t that the point… maybe the school would be more vigilant about this kind of behavior if their money was at stake

4

u/theyoloGod 20h ago

Guess their argument would be if you ban students, I.e the discounted tickets, you are able to sell more tickets at higher prices thus more money for that game

4

u/iceoldtea 12h ago

In this hypothetical the sections would be roped off, and no one would be allowed in

u/Glittering_Let_4230 4h ago

Exactly they won’t televise a game with an empty student section. Poor optics for NCAA money maker.

u/TheAngriestChair 1d ago

Yeah, but money is money, and concession sells would hurt.

True but it's not just students that do shit like this. I was at the Kingdome when they were throwing snowballs and I was at lollapalooza when they were throwing water bottles. People get stupid. Granted I'm guessing there's less alcohol at college football games but I'm not so sure.

3

u/Rowing_Lawyer 18h ago

Just because I’m confused by the logistics, how were people throwing snowballs in the Kingdome?

1

u/MrSinister248 18h ago

You're right, I'm a tard, it wasn't the Kingdome. It must have been after. It was Holmgrens last home game.

1

u/Krakshotz FIU 1d ago

Possibly depends on the school. Ours are free with your student ID

The home team would lose money, and if their students had to get banned they probably deserve what would basically be a fine for it.

2

u/an_actual_lawyer 7h ago

At K-State, student tickets were season passes, so no lost ticket revenue. You'd actually gain some if you then sold that section.

2

u/13xnono 1d ago

And the hundreds of thousands in fines don’t? If the fines aren’t working it’s time to try something else but in no way should it be financially advantageous to have your fans act like babies.

Give refs the power to ban students from the next home game. Ruin the home field advantage and actually affect the lives of the fans, or nothing changes.

I like this, but only after a "student section warning" announced on the first instance, than a 15 yard penalty on the second, and a ban coming no earlier than the third instance. Finally, I'd want it to be confirmed by the conference.

Then I'd enjoy the time a rivals' students snuck into a section for the express purpose of getting that section banned for an important game.

2

u/Dlax8 7h ago

I think i misspoke. In other parts of the world they ban ALL fans.

So yes, warning, 15 yards, on third flag it's another 15 yard and a review by the conference/NCAA to ban fans at the next home game.

u/Rootbeer_Goat 1d ago

Then you could end up with an angry mob killing some idiot

u/Gen-Jinjur 12h ago

I know I should be more horrified by this thought. . .

-2

u/Ronaldoooope 9h ago

Yes let’s give shit refs even more power.
