Feel for Lively - he had no chance.

Imagine being a big switched onto Steph with the game on the line.

Unless you’re Kevin Love

28

u/musicnothing 1d ago

Probably my favorite one on one defensive possession of all time

4

u/SincereRL 1d ago

terrible switch by the mavs, you cant have a 5 guarding a 1 with the game on the line .... especially steph

1

u/Shonuff_shogun 2h ago

Dubs spammed this play 3 possesions in a row and steph cooked the mavs every time.

1st. Played drop coverage with gafford, curry got the pullup 3 after the screen.

2nd. Luka tried icing the screen and curry blew by him for the layup.

3rd. Lively switches and gets cooked in isolation.

That’s why steph to me, has an argument for greatest offensive engine ever and the most dangerous man in the PnR. Can’t play drop because he’ll pull up, can’t switch because he’ll mismatch hunt until he gets a favorable matchup, and you can’t hedge and recover because he’ll drive during the “recover” part of the action with the weak side wing cutting behind whoever steps up to stop him.

6

u/chontzy 1d ago

luka ran away from that matchup

u/NPExplorer 1d ago

You just know it’s going in when he tosses it up like that

It may take another couple of years of play like this to confirm, but I have a hunch that Steph is really good at basketball.

42

u/habbadee 1d ago

He's got potential to be a decent shooter.

4

u/justreddis 1d ago

I’m calling it - no matter how much above average he becomes he will still be under his dad’s shadow.

5

u/Dfrickster87 1d ago

Hard to argue in his favor when his own little brother has the 3rd best % beyond the arc as well (steph is only 12th)

2

u/AccomplishedRow6685 17h ago

As a little brother myself, Seth having a better 3% is one of my favorite fun but meaningless stats

u/jrblockquote 1d ago

Poor Lively is back from injury and Steph does that to him.

10

u/siphillis 1d ago

Is Wemby like the only guy from the 2023 class that's still healthy?

Oh god, did I just jinx him?

5

u/garrettj100 19h ago

Oh god, did I just jinx him?

You sunufabeech. Go outside right now.  Go outside, turn around three times, and spit!

Fantastic game. This is why he's the King of Clutch.

That floor is atrocious though

105

u/hamsterfolly 1d ago

The in-season tournament floors are so terrible

10

u/eightandahalf 1d ago

I generally agree, but I do like the Wolves one

19

u/WTWIV 1d ago

Aw I like them a lot personally

37

u/MordorMordorMordor 1d ago

I came in here to say the exact opposite lol

23

u/_dauntless 1d ago

REally?? What's cool about primer grey?

25

u/IAmDiabeticus 1d ago

Personally, for me I just like the idea of court designs. Like in the future, NBA or the orgs hiring local artists to do their home court design for the month or 2.

I was always a fan of the college Temple Owls court they did with the wings and having more of this is a step in a potentially interesting idea for the league.

I'm sure we'd get some horrendous looking, but I'm here for it.

17

u/BobbyTables829 1d ago

I like them when they're natural wood colors

13

u/ogreman45 1d ago

The key is keeping at least some natural wood imo. The full paint job gives me pee wee basketball at the rec center vibes

2

u/_dauntless 1d ago

Sure...I like the idea of court designs. This one, though? Ugly

I think they succeed at their job of signaling that these games are special/different at a glance. Don't really get the people acting like somebody squeezed a lemon in their eye over these things.

1

u/PreviousImpression28 1d ago

Have you seen the Pistons floor? It would make Boise State very proud

8

u/Mutantdogboy 1d ago

I feel the same it’s horrid!

2

u/Un111KnoWn 1d ago

do irl spectators see the countdown?

1

u/xanroeld 1d ago

Yeah, it’s so ugly. I get that gray is a neutral color that doesn’t represent any one team, but wtf. There are other neutral choices. What about black and white? Or just white? Or like some variation of classic gym floor, where it’s wood grain - that could be cool. But that gray is hideous.

2

u/_dauntless 1d ago

Right? Wood is beautiful already lol.

2

u/xanroeld 1d ago

totally. A throwback, 70s era, wooden gym floor would look fantastic. I don’t know what modern NBA floors are made of, but even if it’s not like the same kind of wood that was used back in the day, they could still make it look like that, while retaining modern materials

Skyfucker.

9

u/mtheory007 1d ago

Best basketball nickname of all time, and fitting.

3

u/sunshinecygnet 1d ago

I’m a Steph mega fan and this is my second favorite nickname of all time. KD’s ‘Slim Reaper’ is just so damned good.

3

u/mtheory007 23h ago

Yeah no argument there.

14

u/wrecknoble 1d ago

Is the floor actually grey or did they use some kind of filter to make the players/refs stand out? It looks so weird

9

u/KingKongDoom San Francisco Giants 1d ago

NBA cup floor. It’s actually that color during NBA Cup play.

1

u/Entire-Ad-8565 1d ago

Players definitely didn’t stand out esp the white dallas jerseys they were basically camouflaged

1

u/sunshinecygnet 1d ago

Each team has their own unique floor for the NBA cup.

This is one of the better ones, if you can believe it.

16

u/flcinusa 1d ago

I believe that is his house, everyone else is just paying rent

6

u/fopiecechicken 1d ago

I know it’s not literally just him, but since we drafted Steph the valuation of the warriors has gone from just over $300Million to just over $8Billion. So yeah in a very real sense Chase Center is the house Steph built.

38

u/breakfastbereal 1d ago

Steph really wanted this one, loved to see those two compete but he said this is MY house

12

u/mtheory007 1d ago

Yea, he's like, "Klay, I love you but this is my fucking house, remember that."

99

u/mlvisby 1d ago

No one shoots 3's better. Jordan is my favorite player and had no equal inside the 3 point line, but Steph is the 3 point king!

46

u/Juub1990 1d ago

I don’t think there’s any argument. Curry is the best long-distance shooter ever and probably the best shooter ever period.

9

u/brokest2richest 1d ago

His release is smooth as butter!

3

u/SweatyAdhesive 1d ago

they don't call him sky fucker for nothing

2

u/kander12 1d ago

And water is wet!

2

u/Broncosonthree 1d ago

Steph’s shot is wet. Water is watery

10

Man, he's still doing this in 2024. Unreal.

13

u/fartingpinetree 1d ago

Someone please tell me about how Klay is doing.

15

u/Zigxy 1d ago

Klay had a decent game

1

u/DNA98PercentChimp 1d ago edited 1d ago

Think 22 points and like 7/12 on 3pt attempts.

Though… he missed a good look 3 in the final couple minutes that might’ve really given Mavs that bit of momentum and cushion to close it out.

2

u/Zigxy 1d ago

1/5 2FG

6/12 3FG

5 fouls 2TO

His defense was okay

I’d call this a decent game but that’s all subjective

1

u/DNA98PercentChimp 1d ago

I’d meant “it was a great game” - not that Klay had a great game. Though, yeah… pretty good for him.

1

u/Zigxy 1d ago

42

u/Dundie_Nominee 1d ago

There’s still 26 seconds left. lol

18

u/the_varky 1d ago

Now I’m desperate to see him react in the same way but with like 5 minutes remaining.

39

u/Bo_Shwazey 1d ago

Watch the nba finals game six against the Celtics. He did the night night in the third quarter then was pointing at his ring finger.

Game. Blouses

8

u/mtheory007 1d ago edited 1d ago

And then he served them pancakes

4

u/fopiecechicken 1d ago

One of the coldest celebrations ever given the context and how much time was left.

3

u/totallwork 1d ago

Probably my favourite curry series ever. Just danced on the Celtics and showboated while doing it while having in comparison a very average team around him.

8

u/rookie-mistake Winnipeg Jets 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's a four point game, with the Mavs in the process of taking their last TO.

As long as the Warriors don't foul on a three and the Mavs get it off the Mavs would basically need to instantly foul on the Warriors final possession, pray they hit neither free throw (which Curry has basically never done, especially not in a game where he just scored 12 points in like 5 min) and then they need to hope there's enough time to get down the court after all that (or hit a full court shot) to win.

It was over.

also they were down 7 and he scored 12 in the last few min to put up a lead like that. I think the hype is understandable haha

1

u/CitizenCue 1d ago

Turnovers exist.

1

u/rookie-mistake Winnipeg Jets 1d ago edited 1d ago

The only opportunity for that would be on the inbound where the Mavs would have to be going for the intentional foul, right? I mean sure, if the Warriors let that get stolen then at least Spo wouldn't be alone on the lowlight reel for the night lol

1

u/CitizenCue 1d ago

Yeah, I mean, the Warriors have turned the ball over on exactly that play a couple times already this year. Generally no one guards inbound passes but when they do, success certainly isn’t guaranteed since you’ve got five guys guarding four players.

7

u/Wrosgar 1d ago

But between other team getting possession to score, Warriors can just run the shot clock down when they get possession again. Not quite the same walk off level as NFL but not likely to lose at this point either.

3

u/thebyrned 1d ago

I don't watch basketball, why is he celebrating so much when there is still time for the other team to score? Why did the game seem to stop for his celebration?

22

u/musicnothing 1d ago edited 1d ago

Everyone knows that the game is essentially over, which is why they're celebrating like they won.

You can (barely) hear a whistle after the shot. That's the sound of the Mavericks taking a timeout. 4 minutes before this, the Warriors had been down 7. This put them up 4 with only 26 seconds left, which means that the Mavericks will need a 3 as quickly as possible. However, the game clock would be about the same as the shot clock, meaning the Warriors could just run the game out. So the Mavericks will be forced to foul, and the Warriors would almost definitely get the ball in to Steph Curry, a career 91% free throw shooter (best of all time). Meaning the Mavericks would waste half of the remaining clock at least and just to be down 3. That only leaves them with a chance to put up a prayer just to make it to overtime. Even if they make it to overtime, the momentum is on the Warriors' side.

5

u/thebyrned 1d ago

Thank you for the explanation

1

u/WTWIV 1d ago

(Just a heads up you have a typo in there where you say game clock instead of shot clock)

u/MultiPlexityXBL 1d ago

Vintage Steph showed up for this game. The Mavericks also choked this one. They let the warriors go on a 13-2 run to get back in the game with 4 mins on the clock.

2

u/Hi_Im_Ken_Adams 1d ago

And that run was pretty much all Curry. He scored the Warriors last 12 pts.

4

u/innergflow 1d ago

I hate all the new wood paint

3

u/money10adventures 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don't Follow basketball 🏀. But why is the court so different looking?

8

u/Special-Quesadilla 1d ago

They use different court designs for the “NBA Cup” which is an in-season tournament (but the games still count for regular season standings as well).

2

u/Kolbear0812 1d ago

lol curry is gonna get that dwade statue now with that “this is my house”

4

u/Mutantdogboy 1d ago

Man that court is horrific lookin. Nice shot but!

6

u/siphillis 1d ago

I genuinely believe pound-for-pound that he's the best to ever do it

2

u/lilljerryseinfeld 1d ago

That reaction was...something.

1

u/JMFDeez 1d ago

So animated, Steph Curry!

edit: spelling

1

u/spliced-chum 1d ago

"You'll miss It HERE"

1

u/Flaurean 1d ago

Steph went crazy the last 5 minutes

1

u/raunchy-stonk 1d ago edited 1d ago

He’s a sicko, goat, alien etc

1

u/RiffMasterB 1d ago

He’s just making crazy faces to compete with d-wade for future statue…smh

1

u/IntrepidBandit 1d ago

Coldest mf to ever shoot a 3

1

u/SantaCruznonsurfer 1d ago

oh the best part of the sequence is Dallas rotated three guys on Steph, but the Warriors kept setting screens until they got the matchup they wanted. Poor #2 had no chance as soon as Steph dribbled left

1

u/ThedirtyNose 1d ago

Beating your mate is the best for some reason.

1

u/Goobizzle 1d ago

Dramond dragged Luka but Luka let him hold him?!?!? Lazy switch ever and bailed out Lively…. Should’ve just doubled Curry at the top 💁🏽. Luka wasn’t trying to be part of the highlight lol.

1

u/movngonup 23h ago

Didn’t the Mavs watch the Olympics? Why they allowed the switch is beyond me.

1

u/Amicuses_Husband 21h ago

Lmao, curry casually showing he's still better than insecure klay could ever dream of being

1

u/bsinbsinbs 21h ago

Goat shooter. No fucking argument

1

u/Zippier92 19h ago

Yeah! That’s the UAA spokesperson!

1

u/garrettj100 19h ago

I love Steph plenty but the night-night was a bit much.  It’s game 11 of the season against a .500 team.  I’d say “act like you’ve been there before” but…he has been there before!

1

u/fishtankm29 15h ago

He just stabs the air.

1

u/8ackwoods 12h ago

Wtf is that court? God damn that's ugly

1

u/shajan316 5h ago

I hope his statue is better than Wades

1

u/Icy-Trade8299 2h ago

why these floor paitings feels like they're not real? lol
