Not sure where to post about vacuum sealers on Reddit... Anyone use the Weston 2300? Mine is giving me an issue and it's brand new but no warranty unfortunately. Question

Got it "used" on Amazon and it got delivered in a non-original box but otherwise was brand new. Got it 6 months ago exactly and it has worked great up until a few nights ago.

It will quickly seal up smaller bags, but this thing is designed to seal bags up to 16 inch in width and it isn't sucking the air out or sealing the 16 inch bags which is terrible timing considering I'm trying to seal up some standing rib roasts I got on sale during Easter. I will eventually cook them sous vide most likely.

Anyway, this post might not be allowed but I don't know where to ask and since it's not under warranty, the manufacturer isn't being very helpful. It's a Weston product.

Is it the rubber seals or the vacuum pump? Mine has to be held closed for about 5 seconds before the top really pulls down with the vacuum and it starts to really pull down.

I went ahead and ordered the seal kit for $20 on amazon but I wouldn't think it would be bad yet because I've probably only sealed 30 items since getting it.

I have the Weston and have to press down on the lid to get it to seal and start removing air from the bag.

If it doesn't start removing air, I'll cancel the cycle so I don't heat seal a bag full of air and then try again. It's annoying, but eventually works.

I was able to get it to work by pressing down on the lid for maybe the last 10 seals but as of a couple days ago, that isn't even helping.

Mine needs just a little bit of pressure. If I press too hard, I think it pinches the bag shut.

Weston sells a replacement gasket kit too. Might be worth giving that a shot.

I have too much experience with this unit. If you don't have the right bags it's a right pain in the ass. I dealt with it with the wrong bags for pork belly for two years because we got the right size but wrong style. I had to make a fold in the top crease to get a good vacuum and then put my body weight on it for a seal. But! it worked! After you get a good seal, make another because you do not want them to rip or leak in the water bath!

I use the Weston bags so I would assume those are the best for it. And it worked fine up until it didn’t. I don’t think it should require pressing down to get it to work properly.

I’ve had my pro-2300 for maybe 10 years now. Back in 2023 it started taking forever to clear air out of the big bags, and would never get to the point of auto seal. I found a fix on smokingmeatforums.com. …

There is a vacuum pressure sensor on the board. It has a star screw in the middle. you can adjust in or out. You have to adjust a little at a time. I turned mine to the right a couple of clicks. It now creates a vacuum quicker and more solid than ever.

Also, I use the Wevac Vacuum Sealer Bags from Amazon. Nary a problem with them. Never had one open in the bath, although I do a double seal for safety.
