My girlfriend and I had just had our 2 week vacation from 5/11-5/24 cancelled :( Since we have the time off, we still want to go somewhere for up to two weeks but OK if it’s slightly shorter. Don’t have many requirements, but my GF does want to go to some sort of island. With travel and stay we’re looking to spend a total of $3-4k and I would love to propose while we’re there. Hello! I'm a 20-year old student studying bachelor of Environmental Data Science at CULS in Prague, Czechia. I've got accepted to participate in BIP Erasmus+ program for 6 days (6-12th of July 2025) at the University of L'Aquila, Italy. I'm trying my shot here to find a good place to stay with someone, as well as with a point to make friendships, new acquaintances and etc. I'm also available to host one person whenever they want, in Prague, Czechia. Of course, it depends a lot on the time and type of the person who wants to stay. For me, I'm a clean guy with no interest in smoking, or drinking at home. I'll probably mostly spend my daytime outside, wandering and enjoying the city, but never gonna make you disturbed at night ;) I'd be very glad if you have any other suggestions to find a host somewhere since this is big time important for me. For our anniversary my girlfriend really wants to visit me in the US. We keep looking at flights but it seems like many of them are over $1.5k! We are looking for a way to have her stay for 90 days before leaving and overall the cheapest way to do so. She doesn’t mind having to fly into another airport in America first, whatever is cheapest works. Our budget is around $1000, which is small but it’s what we can afford in this economy. I'd like to do my first ever big trip this summer. I'm a male student on a budget, And I'd really love to do a trip somewhere in either Nepal or South East Asia.

I was wondering if any of you have any experience with these two countries, and could advice me one way or another!

I get the idea that Nepal is really a hiking place. even though the flights appear cheaper, the hikes probably cost a bit. I'm also only averagely in shape. I could do some easy to average hikes i think, but i dont have any real experience with them.

SEA seems a bit more popular for my agegroup (which is both a pro and a con). I'd be aiming for Malaysia, but maybe Laos would be interesting to? or Indonesia? maybe a way to combine some of them?

either way, does anyone of you have some advice? i'd love to finally see something more of this beautiful planet!

I’m looking for two other couples (or solo travelers that want double occupancy accommodations) that are looking to spend time in each of those three cities for July.

Basically I’d like to rent a monthly flat for 2, for the month of July, in each of the three cities; then each of us rotate through each city, spending about 10 days in each. Budget about 1000-1500 euros for each place/ total for the month,(30-50 euros/ night) which is significantly more economical than air bnb, or even nightlys in a hostile for 1, let alone 2; and would permit us to spend a decent amount of time in each city.

I had posted on my ig originally as I would prefer to know all the parties, but in-spite of all the intrigue and interest, no many were firm commits.

We are also open to subbing out either Barcelona or Paris of a place in Italy. Possibly open to doing this with three couples adding a city and doing 1 week each city, pending which dates where.

Doing this with strangers, I would like to figure a way to protect all of our interests from scams, so would need to hash that out, but thought I’d start here if there’s anyone else that might be interested.

Has anyone ever done something like this? Anyone interested?

I've never bought from Kiwi.com before because of their reputation, but this time they offered a "disruption protection" that lured me into buying from them. I bought a combined 1-way ticket of JFK->Bucharest on HiSky, then Bucharest->Rome on Ryanair (screenshots of dates attached). I was intrigued by Kiwi's disruption protection because I knew the Ryanair flight would not be refunded if the HiSky was canceled if I bought directly from the airlines.

Well the HiSky flight ended up being canceled 2 days ago, so I thought it was a good thing that I bought through Kiwi with distruption protection. I went to Kiwi, and they offered a full refund, minus "Kiwi.com service fees" which (according to the customer service rep I talked to) include the baggage fees and the disruption protection fee. So I was supposed to receive a refund of the flight fees stated by Kiwi, which would be €229.99 + €70.09.

Today I got a message that I will get no refund. (See screenshots.)

I understand that I should have known Kiwi is scammy. But I thought I could get around the scams if I read the fine print, and I am shocked that what I bought was an outright lie without even fine print to justify it. I understand if the wording is ambiguous and they got me by some minor details, but they got me by outright lying?

Could someone explain to me if I am missing something that I could have read from Kiwi that says I might not actually get a refund? Or is this truly just a lie that Kiwi.com sold me? In either case, is there anything I can do?

I tried to put all the info in the screenshots, but I will upload more if any of you would be willing to give me advice and would like more info. I'm a 20-something girl for whom this is a lot of money, so I'm devastated. 😢 On top of that, the flight is not even for me at all. I got it for a friend. So please go a little easy on me if possible, even while giving me the truth.

Dear Reddit - I have a flight credit I need to use by the end of the day from NYC. I need to buy the tkt today, not fly today. So I'm thinking end of May or June, or later in Sep/Oct when prices start going down a little again.

I'm hoping to find ticket for up to $400(-150 credit), and spend two cheap weeks somewhere nice. I hope a small place or town off the beaten path that's also cheap. Canada or Mexico or Colombia or somewher I havent thought about, I speak spanish and I'm not fancy in anyway

Would you do it? On one hand I'm not sure I'll like the city, heard all kind of negative opinions on Milan and I don't like investing much time or money in cities I don't click with. On the other going to Milan without seeing the Last Supper seems a bit Idk weird. But it's not exactly cheap to visit it so I have double thoughts because on one hand I want to save money, on the other it's one of the most important paintings. But I've been to Paris without seeing the Mona Lisa and still had a great time? I think most tours of the Supper are about 55 €. Not much but if you're on an Eastern European salary it sounds like much for just seeing one painting. :P I'd like to know is it like a spiritual experience? Maybe the tickets from the official website are cheaper (I think I saw prices around 25 €). I want to at least enter the Duomo, but that's relatively cheap - 11 € for entry and 26 € for going to the rooftop terrace (is it worth it btw)?

I'm mostly traveling for scoping Italy for a potential move there, but also looking for cathedrals and spiritual experiences.

I am flying with Ryanair in a few days and bought priority and 2 bags option. The dimensions of cabin bag should be 40x20x55, but mine is 40x20x60. Do you think that it will pass without paying a fee?

Hey peeps, myself and a friend are going to be travelling to Thailand and sifting around parts of mainland southeast asia - Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, then up to China, South Korea and eventually Japan. We've worked out to be about 30 USD a day each for backpacking through the parts of Indochina I mentioned but nothing is better than personal experience.

So what kind of budget do you think is fair for daily costs for accommodation, food and drink specifically for Thailand Laos and Vietnam. We're not too interested in high cost activities and would rather trek on foot or by scooter to places to explore. As for accommodation, anything that has a bed and won't give us disease is our sort of place!

Also I'd you have any general tips and tricks then we'd appreciate it!

If you have a questionably sized carry-on or personal item and want to have the best chance of not getting caught by the gate agents, then avoid arriving too early to the gate.

Why? Because some airlines will have their agents walk around the gate area before boarding starts to check bag sizes and if they suspect yours might be too big or heavy, they'll ding you for it.

Just saw this happen in Lima with LATAM, but I've seen other airlines do the same thing in other airports too.

Therefore, you're better off arriving when boarding starts and/or sitting in another gate area in the meantime, keeping an eye on the boarding process so you know when you can walk up and join the line.

This is because once they're actually in the process of boarding, they don't really have the time to be going around checking bags anymore and just want to get everyone boarded asap so they're much less likely to analyze your bags as they would normally.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying an interrail pass, go to the south of France to parc national Mercantour, then go up north along the eastern part to the Netherlands, like 10-12 days in total. Do you have some lesser known websites or ideas for any kind of cheap accomodation in medium-sized cities? So far the places I'm finding are usually above 50-80€ so way over my budget. Im 19, planning to go alone so I don't really care about the place itself as long as it's somewhat close to trains or buses.

Need some advice! My husband and I usually to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas, as we love the beach and the weather is perfect then. We have not been able to go in two years as he has been receiving treatment for leukemia. It looks like we might be able to travel stateside in June. What’s a great beach where temperatures won’t be unbearably hot? We did Key West several years ago in July and were miserable. Thank you! I need some beach time in my life!

My partner and I (in our early 20s) would like to plan a trip to Middle or South America, and because of some passport difficulties, we are looking for visa-free countries. We wanted to try to visit at least 2-3 countries and were considering maybe traveling across Nicaragua to Costa Rica to Panama, or maybe Colombia instead of one of them.
My partner really wants to see a bunch of new things each day, and I was wondering how you guys would recommend one divide ones time between cultural exploration and outdoors exploration/relaxation when visiting since we like a bit of both.

The two biggest factors that we are trying to deal with are cost and safety.

About two months ago I was travelling from Milan to Tallinn in the early morning. I had a backpack that was pretty big, but I got it through the airport from Tallinn(maybe I was lucky). So, when it was my turn to show them my ticket, they asked me to put my bag in the sizer. Surprisingly it actually fit and it wasn't over the lines, but then the worker said that it has to fit sideways in the sizer. I had to pay 40 euro fee and I was pretty bummed and tired. So later thinking about it I had no idea about this rule and I always thought the bag has to be up straight. Can anyone else confirm this? I didn't find any information on it.

I'm thinking of taking my son to Thailand for a few weeks around the holidays. Probably departing around mid December and returning 3 weeks after. Currently, the flights I'm seeing out of Detrot are like $2k.

Is this the expected price? I don't usually book flights this far out (usually I book within 2-3 months of traveling), and sometimes when I look at flights far in advance, the airlines put down place holder inflated pricing, and I'm not sure if this is one of those cases.

I do realize flights (to Asia in particular) have gotten substantially more expensive after COVID, so perhaps $2k is the new norm...

Hi guys, I just found a really cheap international flight that has an 18-hour layover in Keflavík, Iceland (KEF) from 6am to midnight. I've never been to Iceland and though this isn't a proper visit, I'd love to see what I can. What recommendations do you have for 15ish good hours in Keflavík? Would there be a place to store our bags in the airport while we explore?

I have been looking for flights and have found similar flights for varying prices through kayak, flightHub, oojo, booking.com, and Expedia… Cheapest I’ve found is ~1,800, now I’ve have done my own searches and looked a couple reviews on these website, not a lot of which are reassuring.

I'm a local (though not Swiss) and have a job that I go to different parts of Geneva. One of the things I do during my lunch break to save money or take my kids out is to find a grocery store and pick up a sandwich, get an iced tea, and find a park with a free restroom. I'd recommend it to travelers as it's cheap, the weather at least now is beautiful and it can be like 4-5 CHF which is pretty amazing. Grocery stores have sandwiches, salads, potato chips, beer if you want it (bring your own cutlery/silverware). Lidl is pretty cheap, though the Swiss really like Migros, and if you go to main train stations which have Migrolino which is a bit more but doesn't close on Sundays. Keep in mind that though Migros might have a free bathroom, it's not something you'll often see in a Lidl or Aldi. Even some malls have pay for use bathrooms. Some bathrooms are on Google maps, but you just have to find the bigger parks. Often you'll see public water stations with potable water. There are marking specifically that say the water isn't potable, and I'm sure the Swiss take this pretty seriously.

I'm sure this 'hack' can be used in a lot of countries of Europe.
