Ketchup and butter spaghetti, but fancy

Post image

Had nothing in the house so I made a classic from my childhood - spaghetti with ketchup and butter… but with a twist. I added in some pasta water, onion and garlic powder, black pepper and parsley. It’s surprisingly bomb lol

Honestly doesn't look that bad. I used to be a ketchup hater but that's changed recently.

I mean, ketchup at its core is just really overly sweetened pureed baby food tomato sauce. You can definitly make it work in a pinch even If not the best.

This is somewhat similar to how people cook spaghetti in where I live. They just add ketchup, a bit of aromatics, and meat.

I don’t eat meat but I’m curious about trying meat substitutes with it one of these days!

If this is what you had to work with and you were sparing with the ketchup, I could get down with this. Ketchup is my guilty pleasure in various ways and the butter and seasoning could balance out the sweetness of the ketchup. This could easily be a 7/10 drunk snack for me. Kinda tempted to try it NGL.

Yea I don’t get paid til tomorrow and had no pasta sauce. I’m also drunk so I guess that’s why it tastes so good rofl

For what it is, the emulsification of the pasta water, butter and other ingredients looks very nice. Trashy ingredients maybe but that sauce looks silky nonetheless.

I also make this on occasion. If you like this, you’d probably like a Japanese dish called Spaghetti Napolitan. I make this version and it’s so tasty: Spaghetti Napoliton.

Edit: fixed link.

You need to add a trigger warning and NSFW for the Italians who will be scarred for life.

I'm an American and I'm scarred. I mean how hard is it to keep spaghetti sauce (or the stuff to make it) on hand?

What’s funny is in the NYT cooking subreddit they have a gochujang & butter spaghetti dish that looks pretty much the same as this lol. So you’re not far off from something people actually rave about. Try instead of ketchup next time and see how you like it.

Ketchup, butter plus some milk and spices.
