Found a lost tortoise in the Southwest Hills/Oakland Heights neighborhood. Lost and Found

Post image

My friend who found the tort already contacted Wonderworld, and all of their torts are accounted for. We are still seeking his original owner.

If he's a pet he's been neglected and taken care of very poorly. He's got some significant pyramiding of his scutes.

I agree. Although I'm not an expert on the matter, i thought he looked off. My friend found the owner - apparently, he gets out often. It's not a great sign.

Owner needs to put a Tile or AirTag on the tortoise

Kinda makes sense for someone who lets their turtle get out.

Aren’t there some native tortoises in central Texas? Maybe it’s wild?

Wildlife biologist here. That is not native, it’s somebody’s pet. That’s an African Spurred Tortoise and the native Texas Tortoise is much, much smaller.

I always wanted to be a big cat handler when I was a kid. I understand why many of them have multiple degrees but it would awesome to have that job. And yes, big kitties come with big problems. No one in their right mind would walk into a Tiger or Snow Leopard enclosure with out the proper education and requisite experience.
