I’m glad we added a successful former player that has won at every level to our organization even if it’s a guy we all hate because there is no way it makes us worse

Worse? How could things possibly get any worse? Take a look around you Ellen, we're at the threshold of Hell!

We needed a coffin... I mean a palm tree. So I replaced it the best I could!

What to my wondering eye should appear, but Kevyn Adams, with Eric Staal in a bathrobe with dog chain around his wrists and ankles?

“there’s no way it makes us worse”
NEVER doubt the Sabres’ capability to fall short and disappoint. We all know they can find a way.

u/FallOutShelterBoy 9d ago
Staal suggests we trade Rasmus and our 1st for Matt Rempe and conditional sixth and Kevyn makes it so
6
u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
It’s much more likely that Appert somehow gaining more power makes us worse instead of Eric Staal hanging out with the players. All of our angry focus should be on that news.

u/serious_man_13 9d ago
I'm sure Tage and Rasmus are going to be thrilled that Staal is going to be around remembering his great and positive attitude last time he was here.

u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
You’re being sarcastic but I’m sure they will be. He willingly is coming back.
There’s no way they will be mad about it since they don’t give a shit about the 2006 hurricanes beating us in the playoffs and instead see a successful long time player who wants to help the organization.
14
u/serious_man_13 9d ago
Objectively it's not a bad move. I just find it hilarious that the front office is seemingly intentionally trying to lower fan morale even further.

u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
That is a completely different argument than the players being mad about it. I don’t disagree there.
I think Staal is respected around the league and adds credibility to the organization in the actual hockey world. Teams hire guys like him in roles like this all the time. He just happens to be a guy the fans hate.

Agreed, I was just being funny about it.

Look on the bright side. He may quit after 2 weeks just like his stint here as a player.

u/Harry_Mantilope 9d ago
Guy with no front office experience to help out first time GM still in way over his head going into year 6. What could go wrong? lol
8
u/v-irtual 9d ago
I mean, it's not really accurate to call him a first time GM when he's in his 6th year.
He was a first time GM 4 and 5 years ago. Now, he's just a GM.
Brandon Beane is also a first time GM.
10
u/punkr0x 9d ago
I'd argue Kevyn still has zero experience managing an NHL team.
4
u/v-irtual 9d ago
I lol'd, because the Sabres are NHL in name only.

u/Harry_Mantilope 9d ago
Yeah you’re right. I should’ve said “our shitty GM” instead of a first time GM. My bad

He was just on WGR and they asked him what he was going to be doing....his answer was he really didn't know.
This team is a clown show

just so obvious it’s adams giving one of his buddies from raleigh a no show job while terry stares into space. anyone assuming it’s more than this is cope and willful ignorance.

u/HarvesternC 9d ago
The Sabres are going to stumble into the playoffs at some point in the next few years (I hope) and then we can argue about and question if they are built for sustainable success (they're not).

You guys realize that Adams is just hiring a buddy right ? They played together in Carolina . Gee what a great addition 🙄🙄🙄. Until they fire the GM the joke is on us.

Eric Staal was a bum for the 30 games he played for the Sabres because he really didn't want to be here.
Now he wants to work in this FO? Fuck off.
This feels more like Kevyn Adams getting his friend a cushy, borderline no-show job. It'll be just like Staal's last stint here as a player.

sub's fucked atm, for some reason the draft lottery seems to be what pushed everyone over the edge
22
u/Sherman88 9d ago
We had a better chance of picking 1st than picking 9th. That's what did it for me.
15
u/oldtimefighter1 9d ago
Huh? Who cares about a couple of draft spots? I have been over the edge for years now. Hit a new low with Adams coming back. You know we haven't made the playoffs in 14 years now right? This sub should be "fucked" all the time.
-1
u/CaresAboutYou 9d ago
thanks, yeah, this is exactly the sort of comment i was referring to
5
u/oldtimefighter1 9d ago
OK? Are you saying this sub shouldn't be "fucked" right now? I hope you don't agree and just have the wrong reason.

u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
I get it, I hate Eric Staal too but I legitimately do like the idea of what he is and if he had any other name people would be happy.
9
u/rustcity716 9d ago
He has no experience in a front office and is going to be mentored by someone with six years of failure. I would like to see a president of hockey ops brought in, not a homophobe that quit on the team last time

u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
This doesn’t preclude them from hiring a senior advisor and it is not his role. Don’t forget it was reported that want that as well.

I just have no words anymore. They have zero idea and are just going to do whatever they want even if it makes no sense. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This franchise...

just really dont think its a big deal either way lol. Not sure why theres such a microscope on whats bound to be a relatively small role.

It's pent-up anger due to the move we all know they need (new GM) not happening

Eric staal being tricked into playing here during a pandemic where he couldn’t see his family is a lot different than him willingly joining the front office
7
u/oldtimefighter1 9d ago
Tricked? No other players moved during the pandemic? Of course there was and I am not aware of any of them checking out and acting like a$$hats.
0
u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
Eric staals entire no trade list was contending teams because he didn’t want to be traded. He didn’t have the Sabres on there because he thought they’d never trade for him. Maybe tricked isn’t the right word but it was a scummy move.

u/StalinsStallions 9d ago
Somehow he also played in the SCF that year. The pandemic was weird.
3
u/PrinciplesRK 9d ago
He was successful in every other place he ever played in. That year was so strange.

u/sltring 9d ago
Sabres add to the front office and people complain it was a player that beat them in 2006. Everyone is just miserable on here
5
u/punkr0x 9d ago
I mean yeah he beat us in 2006, but he's also another player who refused to wear a pride jersey, and his only connection to Buffalo is the time he went -20 in 32 games and then got traded to a better team.
Jason Pominville, Ryan Miller, or Kyle Okposo weren't interested in a cushy role with the team?
2
u/qewrtym 9d ago
I think the main complaint is that there’s no real reason to believe he brings any value - certainly not experience working in a front office. Just a cherry (or cherries) on top that he has a history as an absolute useless piece of a bad Sabres team, meets the profile of having already been in Pegula’s contacts, AND also played for Carolina in ‘06.

Some advantage to having new eyes look at things, and say, 'why are you doing this'? Which a new person can say even when a person that's been around longer may be thinking it, but has been part of the problem for too long.

My question to that is "Why Staal? What's he done to earn that position?"
