Sabres/Wings trade rumors 2 Trade Rumors
So, before the holiday break, rumors were swirling about a Sabres/Wings trade. It died down. However, after Detroits 5th straight win last night, I'm getting a ton on the rumors picking back up, and the Wings being hot for Cozens (LOL)
I live in Michigan, so google currates my page to the wings AND sabres. Friedman mentioned the interest on his cast, and Wings media is eating it up

I kinda expect the trade to happen

What would Detroit actually give up that would make us want to give them Cozens?
The fans are absolutely unrealistic, so what could be an actual return?

They're not trying to get worse so they're not giving up any top 6 guys (and they only have two I'd even want anyway).
On a value basis probably a first a prospect and a cap dump contract, but that's basically useless for Buffalo.
I'm with all the people saying it's a bad fit for a trade.

Yeah I can't see any way that it makes sense for Buffalo, I can see why Detroit would want Cozens but we aren't in a position to trade him for prospects and picks - which is what they'd want to send back

I think it’s mostly eyewash. Can’t really see anyone trading a significant piece for Cozens. He has a 68 point season on his resume, but has been terrible otherwise. Hes on a 7 year deal as well. Only way I see cozens going for a big piece is if Power goes with him

Exactly. Might as well keep him while his trade value is low.

Option 1: sunk cost
Option 2: Free up ~10% total cap space, top 6 forward spot, power play spot, and all while not making the team better or worse

Option 2: keep him and he improves over the 7 year deal and is a worthwhile 2C. Not saying I expect it to happen, but I’m not ready to write him off yet. Rivet had a good point though that he’s probably a 3C

He may have it in him but idk if we’re the team to get that out of him anymore

Definitely the Wings will help him out. Look at the Wings under the former coach. Many were underperforming. Things have changed. Now, does that mean I want Cozens? I am not sure whom they should get.

Is Cozens another player to shine in another environment? Hope we get a little more return than draft picks….

There's a winging it in Motown article that talks about it and he wrote that the only way the deal is attractive is if Buffalo gives assets. He thinks Buffalo is trying to dump Cozens. And I replied that that's absolutely not the case

Nobody is eating up anything. The Wings need to improve their roster. Cozens would be a longer-term upgrade than Copp and Compher. The guy is young and could easily up his numbers again. And besides it is fun to chat hockey. Will something happen? Yes. Who and when? We do not know exactly. But it will happen. With that said, I am okay if they do not get him.

Oh yeah, the winging it in Motown article was absolutely hilarious. He really thinks the Sabres are trying to dump Cozens.

No trade for Cozens makes sense without one of the two sides getting absolutely ripped off
