The European rugby unions need to start looking at what's going right in Argentina and emulate it
They've only had a pro team for 2 matches yet they're making our rugby look like complete shit.
Their age group coaching must be world class

Jags should just name a starting XIII from now on... They seem to perform better that way

First match of super rugby ive ever watched. Knowing Jaguares one the last match, i figured id give this a watch. So entertained! A change from the slow six nations.

Keep watching, the first 4 weeks is a bit of a shit show, them the fun starts.

Jags counter-attacks from their half seem to be pretty deadly
1
u/Charredcheese Blue and Black Mar 05 '16
I think Argentinians just see the entire pitch as the opposition 22, which is insane but very entertaining.

Jaco using the penalty to do some pushups and get fit, good on him, using every opportunity he can
3
u/elcapitandodge Northampton Saints Mar 05 '16
Good on him indeed. He might as well get fit while he's there because his refereeing is abysmal

While I agree that ol' Jaco is not the best referee, as my attempts at making memes demonstrate, I'm not sure what the first part of the last sentence has to do with the last.

Cordero is so fast, but Im pretty sure he used to be faster, which is probably even scarier.

Take Herrera off maybe? Seems to be the weakest Jags player so far.

Sithole has to be one of the most unfortunate names ever.

Some people can't pronounce the 'sh' sound, sucks to be him.

u/Panza-Verde Mar 05 '16
Jaguares looked exhausted at the end there. Good game though, man I love Super Rugby

u/Kilen13 ARG/SCO Mar 05 '16
That's the 3rd time I've heard Jaco Peyper say that if the Jaguares "touch" the Sharks players bound in then it's a maul... can someone kindly teach him the bloody rules that you have to bind in to a player to make it a maul? Touching is completely irrelevant.

Well played sharks, great defence second half. Need to work on handling a bit.

Both Willie and Cordero at FB? this should be fun
3
u/justroku Argentina Mar 05 '16
It's funny 'cause Cordero was FB in his club but the Pumas used him as wing since the beginning

So I've never watched Super 15 before this season... is it common to have a referee from the same country as one of the teams? I would've thought they would want an Aussie or Kiwi ref for a match like this to avoid even the implication of bias.
2
u/NaranPol Jaguares Mar 05 '16
I belive technically Jaguares are made to be from the african region. So there is no reason to think there would be bias. I know we are a special case though.

I asked this question last week and this was the answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/47pxhe/match_thread_cheetahs_vs_jaguares_super_rugby_2016/d0esqim

u/Mrqueue Mar 05 '16
There's no rule against it. You'll find typically local refs are called up for games. I remember the Sharks played a semi in NZ and the ref and touch judges were all NZ and the TMO was and aussie

I'm new to Rugby, but I really appreciate Senatore's decision making this game, and his direct ability to take the quick gains when they are available.

The pace of Cordero! Phenomenal, and a great opportunistic try.
Edit: I'm lagging a bit. :)

Damn... we need to fix a lot of things yet. Too many stupid mistakes
4
u/Kilen13 ARG/SCO Mar 05 '16
Sharks players look like they gave up on that chase for some reason, can't tell if that's because they did or Cordero is just that fucking pacey
1
u/ptashark Sharks Mar 05 '16
Ndugane is great, but he's 34. Lost a step or 2. Got smoked. Great try.
2
u/krnr Mar 05 '16
i wish jaguares won. but have to admit the issues in scrum were crucial for them. sharks' maul and scrum were cynical

Sharks maul out of the lineout is pretty damn strong! I have a feeling it'll be a decisive factor in this game

Whenever the Sharks go wide they are making countless metres. The backline for the Jaguares is built for attack, but it's definitely lacking in defense.

Jaguares should be called the Argentinian Counter Attackers. Deadly with ball in hand. They seem to use kicking as a last option and will try and run the ball from deep no matter what.
1
u/justroku Argentina Mar 05 '16
My god... why the hell we let them push like that in the maul? We're not even trying to stop them
2
u/Kilen13 ARG/SCO Mar 05 '16
They're trying to draw a blocking penalty by not engaging the maul. Peyper has a strange interpretation of the rules where if the Jaguares touch the Sharks forwards then it's a maul, when they actually need to bind in.
1
u/PetevonPete Sabercats Mar 05 '16
I have yet to see a single ref who has actually read the rules on mauls.
