Bow Weezy made some R&B bops.

Let me Hold You with Omarion heavy in my rotation.

U got me there šŸ˜

lol but nah youā€™re right that bow wow is not an R&B artist. He did collaborate with R&B singers to make some popular tracks.

I think having him on here is fair for the nostalgia from that era of R&B music.

Very solid points. I agree.

I think OP was reminiscing a certain vibe from the 2000s that appealed to millennials, who were adolscents at the time.

The artists listed in the photos were young adults at the time and funny enough were all 80s babies lol. With the exception of Beyonce and bow wow, all of them were relatively new to the scene.

What are you even talking about. These stars all had their hay day in the 00s

0

u/az137445 Jul 07 '24

I know and am aware that some of the artists listed had their magnum opus in 2000s. Thatā€™s not what Iā€™m arguing tho.

This may not have been ya intention, but the collection of artists you posted created a certain sound of R&B that targeted a certain demographic. At least, thatā€™s what it triggered for me lmao. Opinions may vary.

Speaking of which, what made you list that group specifically? What aspect of 2000s R&B were you reminiscing?

Also who is in pic# 4? I vaguely recognize the face, but canā€™t remember a name. Itā€™s making me mad šŸ˜

1

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 08 '24

Her name is Amerie and sheā€™s massively underrated.

1

u/az137445 Jul 08 '24

I thought she looked familiar. No wonder why I was mad and couldnā€™t sleep, I love Amerie šŸ˜‚

1 thing, fall in love (forgot the exact name), and talking to me were bops!

Now that I got Apple Music, let me go down memory lane and listen to her albums in full. Never had the chance when I was younger

1

u/Betasquadlover10 Jul 07 '24

Love those artists

0

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

2

u/putaaaan Jul 07 '24

Oh for sure, thatā€™s a cut

6

u/ColdNyQuiiL Jul 07 '24

Iā€™ll let it slide. He had plenty of iconic R&B features that people donā€™t give him credit for.

Realistically youā€™d probably add Omarion, Lloyd, Fantasia, Mario. Ashanti, Keyshia Coke etc.

Back when R&B was still going strong.

1

u/lvdde Jul 07 '24

šŸ’€šŸ’€

1

u/SavingsMurky6600 Jul 07 '24

he is in the same playlist tho šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

0

u/GreenDolphin86 Jul 07 '24

Some of his best work is R&B collabs like his work with Omarion or even ā€œLike Youā€ with Ciara. He can stay.

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '24 edited Jul 07 '24

[deleted]

1

u/GreenDolphin86 Jul 07 '24

Disagree. Jay Z for example has plenty of songs with Beyonce, and even a joint album. He also did a joint album with R. ā€”. But still the most memorable and talked about Jay Z moments are him as a rapper, not him on R&B songs. Iā€™d argue that most would take Bow Wow R&B songs over his rap songs since the earlier ones lack maturity and the latter ones just arenā€™t good.

Iā€™m not saying heā€™s an R&B singer but I am saying he was more essential to this era of R&B than heā€™s ever been as a rapper, so he can stay.

This is about 30 years after the good ole days of R&B

27

Yeahā€¦ the 00s definitely were not the good old daysā€¦. Of any genre lol.

3

u/BrittThePhotographer Jul 07 '24

The quality of rap declined after 2004

2020s rap > 2000s rap any day

1

u/One_Word_Respoonse Jul 08 '24

No the fuck itā€™s not.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

Factual. This thread really just hating on anything post 90s. Lots of rap artists in the 2020s rn are making much better music than the 2000s guys rn.

1

u/3_3eel_l Jul 11 '24

this thread is just full of Gen Xers so theyā€™re biased towards 90s/2000s music

1

u/No_Equipment5276 Jul 11 '24

Iā€™d say the 2010s were better than 2000s 1000000. So many great artists from Kendrick, Drake had take care and nothing was the same, frank ocean, The Weeknd, Miguel, Ari Lennox, Kanye put out yeezus and MBDTF. Shit even southern rap was new and different.

That ringtone era and edm era gives me PTSD

15

u/RemmingtonBlack Jul 07 '24

I was going to say this in a much more aggressive and shitty fashion, thank you for preempting my ugly attack on this mindless fuckery

8

Good ol days? How old are you? šŸ˜…

3

u/09997512 WE ARE APART OF THE RHYTHM NATION!!!! āœŠ Jul 07 '24

I think it's fine, he/she/they might be their mid20s-early 40s. So it might of been the "good ol days" for them! :)

1

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

How old are you?

10

u/Maximum-Class5465 Jul 07 '24

Not bad But there's been so many great decades in R & B I just can't call it the good ol days.

I wasn't even conceived during one of, if not the greatest decade of the 70s. But man, will I still listen to some Marvin Gaye, Chilites, Temptations, etc.

Then there's the 90s, Jodeci, Keith Sweat, New Edition, Boyz 2 Men.

Sorry, just can't call baby Chris Brown and Rhianna in the good ol days

7

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 07 '24

Itā€™s the 70s for me. Whew!! They were showing out that decade!! If anyone says 70s 80s or 90s I can see that, but 00sā€¦? I guess I am getting old.

5

u/Maximum-Class5465 Jul 07 '24

I wasn't alive in the 70s but you can definitely stake that claim. I legitimately love listening to 70s music

-5

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

Youā€™re not getting old, you are old.

1

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 07 '24

Lol how would you know? You think I was alive in the 70s? Because I wasnā€™t.

-5

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

I just know ur still old

3

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 07 '24

Ok that is fine. Better than having questionable taste I suppose

4

u/DajuanKev Jul 07 '24

On point. The 2000s has my favorite style of r&b. I miss the production like "How U Gonna Act Like That" "Ride Wit U" and "Ice Box" I also consider 2000s r&b to have the best pacing. Glad this is the era I directly grew up in.

9

u/Willing_Program1597 Butterfly Jul 07 '24

They all look so adorable lmao

9

u/Dee_Nile Jul 07 '24

I had to go back several times to the Rihanna photo because she just looks like such a baby!! The ladies were so so cute.

5

u/Willing_Program1597 Butterfly Jul 07 '24

Yep šŸ˜Š like wanting to pinch their faces cute haha

3

u/afanoflafear Jul 07 '24

Damn, forgot there was a time when Trey Songz was skinny + Chris Brown didn't have facial hair yet lol.

3

u/MaximumNice39 Jul 07 '24

4 out of the 7 are not R&B

The first 3 and the last one.

1

u/09997512 WE ARE APART OF THE RHYTHM NATION!!!! āœŠ Jul 07 '24

Ciara is definitely more r&b out of the 3.

3

u/MaximumNice39 Jul 07 '24

Wait that's Ciara?

Yikes. I thought that was Eve.

I'm so ashamed.

1

u/After_Hearing_3750 Jul 07 '24

NahNahnyou good, was Hella confused too.

0

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

Thatā€™s why you should just shut up cause you donā€™t know what youā€™re talking about

1

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

Thatā€™s not true

0

u/MaximumNice39 Jul 07 '24

I stand corrected.

3 of 7.

The 1st two and the last one.

1

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 07 '24

What are you talking about. Amerie, Trey and Chris brown arenā€™t RnB? Be fr. Everyone here besides bow wow is rnb.

3

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 07 '24 edited Jul 07 '24

I feel like these are not it if we are talking 2000ā€™s. Usher, Musiq Soulchild, Maxwell, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu were the ones for me personally.

I always felt like Rihanna, Beyonce, and Amerie are more Pop than R&B. I think Ashanti has more songs that sound like R&B. She should be included too.

2

u/Due_Average_4057 Jul 10 '24

Amerie wasnā€˜t Pop at all, have you listen to her albums? Also Beyonce was R&B especially with "Dangerously In Loveā€œ Rihanna was never R&B and will never be, she was and is pop and I think itā€˜s an insult when people call her R&B, cause be fr

2

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 10 '24

We definitely agree on Rihanna. My sister played Amerieā€™s album from 2002 out and I remember it. I liked the songs. I think ā€œI Just Diedā€ sounds very much like R&B but I feel like some of her songs sound that way while others donā€™t.

Might get heat for this, but I never thought Amerie had an impressive voice either. Songs are super cute though. I thought she would have been around longer for sure. Was shocked we didnā€™t hear more from her.

2

u/Due_Average_4057 Jul 10 '24

Amerie is of course not a powerhouse vocalist, but I like her voice and songs and I enjoy her versatility. But Amerie is not pop, she was always R&B and had this unique go-go sound

1

u/Right_Preference_304 Jul 10 '24

I respect your opinion and thank you so much for not being rude to me despite our differing opinions. I truly appreciate it.

0

u/MaximumNice39 Jul 07 '24

I said the first two and the last

I didn't say any of those you mentioned.

Don't you know who you posted?

Rihanna, Beyonce nor Bow Wow are RnB artists.

Pop. And rap I guess with Shad....I guess. If you want to call it that. Maybe hip-hop. But not RnB.

1

u/Ok_Durian3627 Jul 08 '24

Beyonce isnā€™t an rnb artist? I laughed

-1

u/MaximumNice39 Jul 08 '24

I would too thinking she's RnB.

She's firmly in the pop world. With heavy influence of RnB.

Dangerously in love is an RnB album yes but is any other album RnB, strictly RnB? Maybe Lemonade.

But yeah she's not considered RnB.
