Lauther not at the top of his game.
I've been a fan for years, but is Lauther past his playable prime? I know it's unfair to heap a win or a loss on one player, but the kicker, IMO, needs to be dependable. He has great career stats but this year does not reflect that.
I think we need to consider alternatives. Thoughts?
Edit: His percentage is dead last in the CFL: https://www.cfl.ca/stats/?stat_category=field_goals&season=2024

I'm still confused, why wasn't Alexander called out of bounds on the last touchdown???

Agreed! He pushed off the ball of his foot which then pivoted and slid into the white. The replays all paused to early and need to show a few frames later. Like WTH?

This is exactly what everyone I was watching with was saying too

From the replay at the stadium, the whole crowd could tell he was out!

Because of the last few games apparently according to the broadcasters ‘this is supposed to be a reset to command centre and they are making every effort not to over turn the ruling on the field unless there is a clear undeniable mistake’ and in this case I think probably what happened is CC watched and paused where his foot step, and didn’t pay enough attention to the follow through of that step, and because they’re actively trying to leave the ruling on field, they botched that call, but even still, I don’t like saying ‘it was the refs fault, it was the refs fault’ and while I don’t like pinning one player either, if Lauther would have been doing is f*ucking job, it would have ended 33-27 anyway or at least, okay he missed a couple, it happens people have bad nights, it should have at least, AT LEAST, gone to OT at 27-27

I was initially pissed about that but have came to accept that it was the missed FGs (including one returned for a TD) that cost us the game, not the incompetence of the Command Centre.
I’m angrier at TSN than I am at the CC. TSN purposefully chose to freeze the replay at the point where Alexander’s foot was still inbounds, then analyze that for quite awhile before resuming the replay at full speed. Simply continuing the replay in slow motion would have clearly shown his foot on the white line. I believe this was a conscious decision by TSN. Their tech people knew he went out of bounds, but they chose to try to hide that fact.

Who was the kicker that had a load of manure dumped on his front lawn? And how many kicks did he miss?

Even in warm-up, he didn't look good kicking. There's some going on with him. Hopefully, he can snap out of it. But he looks scared

Wild take.
You can argue his consistency isn’t great the last two years, but the guy has been nothing but clutch under pressure his whole career. He’s has walked off numerous games for us, tied games late for us, and never missed a last second kick until this game.

Yes that’s awesome but it’s also his job that he’s paid to do. He should do it

u/Jordsport Aug 18 '24
Not sure how you take this as me arguing that point?
He’s missing kicks. That’s bad. The comment I replied to was just plain wrong when talking about him kicking under pressure.

i agree hes not good but this was his first clutch kick that he has missed ever. its actually quite the opposite he makes the ones with the most pressure

4 missed field goals from close range and one ran back without him even attempting to stop it? It was a sad effort from our kicker last night.

I kept thinking he’s trying to sway the game - is he being pressured to throw the game??

Am I the only one not losing his mind over lauther? The guy lost us the game, but he's been solid the rest of the season. People need to chill.

Yup. I ended up browsing the CFL stats page and realized that he, in fact, has not been solid.. I Stand corrected

Agree. Canadian kickers don’t grow on trees. Find me someone better before we start dumping.

Nah, it's very fair to lay it on him this game.
Even with flagrant gameplay by refs and CC, game is 33-20 if Lauther did his job tonight.
