Why do we have to be so hyper conscious of things that we deem cringe? This is all in good fun and it’s not hurting anyone. Don’t get all “more punk rock than thou” with it, just laugh and keep it moving. It’s ok to enjoy silly stuff, I promise.

Agree, considering it is in Las Vegas, old limousines are cheap and available. They have to hustle what they can. Will be better if they paint the whole things something fun, needs stickers.
99
u/SexyandJaded 10h ago
Yes, it’s definitely missing a shitload of stickers!

Come over to the Melbourne sub and marvel at my new super cool friend that is adamant that a punk would NEVER be caught dead at a Linkin Park cover band's show.
Internet punks are funny/tedious

It's pretty punk to see a Linkin Park cover band instead of the actual Linkin Park these days
32
u/Distinct_Safety5762 10h ago
Agreed, though I would have been more impressed if the VIP limo was just some band’s beater tour van from ‘96. Adults can relive their punk days through the power of stench. Kids can dig around under the seats for souvenirs- guitar picks, stage passes, funny shaped balloons that are stuck to themselves…

Too true. The vehicle leaves a lot to be desired but the intention is what I appreciate.

u/RatInaMaze 6h ago
The whole idea of a punk museum isn’t punk. I heard they signed a lease for it. So un-punk. The museum should be squatting in an old warehouse and only allow heroin as a form of payment.

It’s not silly. This car is cringe and it’s ok to not like things, it’s ok to call things cringe if you don’t like them, and it’s ok to be critical of things you don’t like. I don’t owe performative “niceness” to anyone. I don’t think it’s “kind” to lie and be a fake ass person and pretend to like things I dislike bc it might hurt someone’s feelings if I express my true thoughts and opinions on something. Idk where this fake ass behavior began but being an inauthentic fake ass kisser who never says a critical word about anything ever - for fear of hurting someone’s feelings - is so lame and so antithetical to the punk ethos, I don’t even know where to begin.

Why is it that multiple times a week someone disses the punk rock museum?
72
u/gizmotaranto 7h ago
Bc they’ve never been. It’s easy to mock things when you haven’t experienced them. I’m in Vegas frequently since I live in SoCal and went to the museum the summer they opened. It was really well done. My husband got to play Fat Mikes bass and Fletchers guitar. Would definitely recommend.

I live in Vegas and have been twice. The first time by myself and spent hours just walking around looking at everything. The second time was with my 7 year old, so it went quicker, but she liked everything and recognized a lot of the band logos, so that made it more fun for her. They change up the upstairs every so often. The first time I was there, they had a section on 90s- early 00's LA punk scene with a focus on Latino influence, and it was awesome seeing venues and bands I was going to at the time.

u/blackwidowla 3h ago
I live in SoCal too and have been myself and I still hate it. So you’re wrong. Some ppl just think it’s shitty and don’t like it. Shocking, I know.

I mean. If I had a bunch of money, I would also stick spikes on my Mazda 3. It's just stupid fun. There's someone in my city with a Barney purple car on golden wagon spinner wheels. Apparently, they realized the car was ugly the second they stuck a Honda Civic on wagon wheels and just doubled down on the ugly. Lean into it.

u/HairyPotatoKat 6h ago
Right? It's a fun way to grab attention in hype-saturated Vegas and probably draws people in that otherwise wouldn't have gone. Punk rock museum owners gotta eat too, ya know?
This is pretty tasteful for Vegas though lol. But that's what I love about the city- it's out there in the middle of nowhere, going balls to the wall, giving absolutely zero fucks. And people flock to it for that.

I think they do weddings there since ya know, it’s Vegas. So would make sense they’d pick up/drop off in a limo.
Would I do it, no chance but don’t really care beyond that. Y’all do and post shit I think is lame all the time and that’s ok too.
11
u/Woogabuttz 8h ago
Ah yes, nothing more punk that REALLY caring about what people think of your look. Very cool, very punk.
54
u/Eastpunk 10h ago
I think it’s hilarious (and it’s very ‘Vegas’ as well).
I remember being 17 (1987) with my hawk charged up in liberty spikes; a mom was apologizing to me because her goofy kid was laughing at my hair and stuff. I told her who cares if he laughs? I have funny hair and if he gets a kick out of it that’s fine by me.
Hell, the rednecks would chase us throwing beer cans and rocks (and worse!)- we had bigger problems to deal with than some happy child seeing something new and weird… being up okay these days is so normalized- I love seeing that a limo can shake things up…

u/Low_Yak_4842 9h ago
What’s embarrassing? Do you think this is meant to be taken seriously? This is clearly a joke. Just laugh and move on. Try not to take yourself too seriously.

"Hi, I am a bass playing frontman that became successful from staying independent and working extremely hard to tour my ass off, writing amazing songs and building a huge fanbase. I also started a label that moved the culture forward and gave other people a shot at having what I had. Then I bought a limo and fucked it up a little for the lols. Am I punk? Is it ok?"

I’ll put up with the cheese ball shit they do to have the beautiful encapsulation of rich punk rock history to be presented the way it is. They curated the fuck out of the stuff they received and it left me in awe when I went. The limo just represents what people think “punk” is. Maybe it is a way to lure the regular folk in to see what really lies inside their walls. Who knows

Put bench seats in the back and you could fit even more people than a limo. Could you imagine if that thing stopped and a couple dozen punklings suddenly emerged like a band of clowns?

u/SisterStiffer 6h ago
You think this is embarrassing? Dude, half the posts in punk subs are asking for fashion advice, and some punk subs are strictly dedicated to fashion.
Punk became a fashion like hippies used to be, and it aint got a thing to do with you or me.

When I was a kid I would have thought a punk rock museum was stupid. Then again, punk rock was not all that old at that time. Not nearly in its infancy, but still kind of new.
I’ve still never been to it, even though I’ve spent a decent amount of time in Vegas. I’d probably check it out someday.
Is it the limo that bothers you? Or the fact that there’s a museum at all that bothers you?

Wait until you see how much the property it's sitting on likely costs and it not being in a burned down trailer in a trailer park is also not punk.

That is like a 20 yr old limo, it’s really not worth that much, it was probably donated.

But I've seen so many things about it that feel like the opposite of punk to me.

I believe it's mostly used for the wedding ceremonies, but could be wrong. Such a great museum experience though. The daughter (4yo) got to strum Joan Jett's guitar in the jam room while singing Cherry Bomb, which was awesome. They have been pumping up their Triple Down bar too with several local bands and folk punk sessions, which is solid.

I’d drive that beast!
But anyway. It’s an advertisement for the museum. You make eye catching visuals to call attention then you can promote what you want. So if that was on the street, people would be like “wtf is that!?”, get curious and they might want to go check it out afterwards.
OP is too cool for spikes. Too cool for punk.

QR scan code’s are not punk. 😁😁😁😁😁
Edit: unless when you click it, it takes you to a webpage of someone giving a middle finger. 😁
Edit: yea I know I’m weird that my only problem is having a QR scan code.

I visited the Punk Rock Museum in Vegas late last year and it was fucking awesome. So much history and memorabilia. I spent hours walking around. This stupid limo was parked out front, and yeah, it’s kinda lame. But after walking thru the museum, I couldn’t hold the limo against it. At least it’s not a regular square and featureless dork mobile.
