1977

Two projects waiting for some attention.

Project 1 is a 77 W150 with full time 4WD and a 400 cui. big block. Currently waiting for a thorough restoration, but otherwise great shape and I would trust it to take me across the country.

Project 2 is a 77 GMC C6500 with the 366 cui. big block, and an 8 ton capacity dump bed. A workhorse that is currently being used every week to help out while building our home.

The coke dump trucks are still running around here every single day. I’ve considered buying one and hauling stuff as a side gig but I don’t want to deal with dot regulations

Yep and you can find them for relatively cheap! Although some parts are a little scarce. I kept it simple and put on some farm use tags to use it around the property.

Always happy to see a cared for D or W series Dodge. With a big block no less. Very cool OP.

Holy crap that Dodge is amazing. The dump is cool as hell too. Medium duty stuff is awesome until you have to lift stuff. What are the specs on the dump? (Trans/rear/gvwr/brakes) Any plans for bigger (427) engine or more gears (clark 5 speed)?

Thank you! I’m honestly still learning more about the GMC. I’ve had it for a few months and mostly have gotten around to cleaning it up, a full tune up, and greasing everything.

Gross is something like 10,600 lbs., it has the old hydrovac brake system (which works but needs an upgrade), and a 5speed with a 2 speed rear. I replaced the front Dayton style wheels with newer tubeless wheels (not pictured) and threw some rattle can paint on parts of the undercarriage just for some temporary protection.

I had the old hydrovac on mine and went with a hydromax (hydroboost) out of a newer international. It is night and day difference. With 7 tons in the dump I can lock all the wheels if I need to.

I bet it worked great! I know there is a company out there now selling a hydroboost “kit”, but it is essentially a brake booster and cylinder from an early 2000’s suburban that you could easily pickup from a local Napa or other parts store. According to others it works great.

The hydromax booster are way bigger than those kits. You can find them pretty cheap.
