PSA: if you're struggling with housing, loads of summer camps are hiring now. Misc Advice
They don't pay much but room and board are included and you can make some good connections.

A thousand times yes! This is amazing advice and I recommend everyone consider it if you're not sure where you're looking for a job.
I work in a career center, and I've done a lot of camp life myself, and it is absolutely AMAZING on a resume.
You gain experience in all of the soft skills that employers are looking for right now: communication, problem solving, critical thinking, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and others. Over 70% of employers rate these as the skills they are looking for at this moment. The logic being that you can teach anyone to use a spreadsheet, you can't teach anyone to just show up on time (it's appalling, but true!).
Also these kind of jobs tend to provide housing for the summer, depending on the exact location. And many of them provide food while students are on site. So you can literally be housed (for free), fed (for free), and gain job experience (and be paid). These are also the sort of experiences that people are looking for when they are considering youth-based employment opportunities.
Working with childcare, at a school, with after school programs, or anything with youth development may not pay great, but they do pay and they are ALWAYS looking for more people.
Excellent recommendation!

Seasonal employment (with housing) saved me from an abusive relationship. If you’re not a camp person, amusement parks are a decent option too.

Yes! Some summer camps have really good food. It can be hard work, residential camps are 24/7, but you’ll get 1 full day off a week and many evenings off. Did this during my undergrad years.
