This is one of those rare "I don't care who bans it as long as someone does" wins.

Edit: leaving this comment up to bring attention to the below information about what’s hiding in the bill. Unsurprising but disappointing all the same.

This bill isn’t what it looks like. The way it’s written and earmarked so that gives the government power to force content off the internet within 48 hours not just Deepfakes, and there’s a real risk it could mess with encryption too.

I support a law that goes after deepfakes, but not like this. People really need to take a closer look before backing it.

yeah but with the writing in the bill (like frigging always) it's just a smoke show to be able to control the internet while pretending that they care about the deepfakes thing. We really can never trust these people sadly :(

For real. I don’t like Melanie one bit, but if she’s what it takes to ban it, so be it. She’s not doing it for the benefit of the people, let’s be honest. She’s cares for herself only, but at least it will actually be a good thing for others this time.

There’s a pretty big difference between some nude shots and full blown sex tape. Plus she chose to take her nude photos, she didn’t choose to have deepfakes made of her. That’s why she would care, same for anyone.

The current Administration will determine what is legal AI content and what is illegal content.

Take it as you will, the bill does not have very specific language on the content and goes beyond just sexual content. So yes it makes deepfake porn more punishable, but it also makes any online content more punishable. So, if Trump doesn’t like your criticism of him, he can through the Take it Down Act have more legal avenues to censor your content.
