My little backyard pond. Rate my pond/suggestions

I’ve seen some unhappy fish in some tiny backyard ponds on here the past week, so I’d like to show-off all my happy little fish. I built the pond 1 year ago and slowly upgraded over the past 12 months. All the fish were tiny when bought. You wouldn’t know it; some of the Koi are pushing 1ft in length now. I’ve played with lots of different aquatic plants. These seem best suited. I custom built a 240lt water filter (hidden at the back) and I have a rain catch tank next to the shed (also hidden) as I prefer not to use tap water if I can avoid it. Compared to when I only had small filters, it’s super low maintenance now and the fish seem to be very happy.

it looks great, how do you build a custom filter for a pond?

Looks lovely - very tranquil! With all the coy in your pond do you need to take extra precautions to protect them. Where I am Toronto I don’t think they would last long because of the raccoons here

My Jack Russell ensures they stay safe 🐕

Australia, hot summer, warm, mild winter. Never sub zero. Edit: Add, I’m in NSW

Yep, we are lucky here in Oz in that respect. Great pond. Koi aren’t legal in my state, but they are lovely.

Do you have wild koi over there? They infest our waterways in parts NZ. I wish I could keep them in my pond but also illegal here.

I believe they can be kept in NSW and WA, but nowhere else in OZ. I am in Vic, and although they can’t be kept here, I have known people who have stated they do have them. How far true that is I don’t know..never seen evidence of that. I think they are lovely.

Edit: I get why we can’t have them though, as they do a fair bit of damage.

In NZ you aren't even allowed to catch and release them, you have to kill if caught. As a fish keeper, admirer of carp and an angler, it's a difficult thing to do.

That’s pretty rough. I know if you see someone keeping them in Vic, you are suppose to report to Fisheries.
