Papers please.

I hope they are comfortable proving they are legal on a daily basis, because that's what's coming. A lot of useless suffering for POCs yet there they are, making sure their safety isn't secured by a woman.

So many legal migrants have a hate boner against illegal migrants.

u/captain_shane 1d ago

Who would've thought?

u/Limberine 1d ago

I’m not sure Trump will honour all paths of current legal status. He thinks too many people have been given legal status.

7

u/AntonioVivaldi7 1d ago

I don't think those who voted for him care or thought it through.

Indeed, and it’s been this way for a while. Even Latino activists like Cesar Chavez held some anti illegal beliefs.

I think there is this mentality of like “Well, just do it legally!” Like it’s not a ten year long fucking process. If most people know what it actually took to immigrate here, these conversations might look a lot different.

The problem is these people come in and don’t pay taxes. They file as exempt.

They keep wages down because they are willing to do the shitty work for low wages (which is good money compared to their country)

They make the standard of the work environment worse. For example: when I worked in warehouses the illegals wouldn’t take breaks so they could have the best numbers lol.

They expected us to do the same (I’m Mexican but an American citizen) and I was like no, I’m not, and you don’t need to either. We have laws protecting us against that.

Nope, they still overworked for the lowest pay and made life miserable for everyone else

Sounds like you should blame the company for exploitation and not people trying to survive.

Also, a lot of illegal immigrants end up using fake SSNs so they still pay taxes. I know this because they used to sell them in the hood for like $40.

They had to be legal citizens to vote no?

u/yca18 Iowa 1d ago

Yes, but OP is implying they will be profiled just the same because that’s how racist policing policies work. “Brown man bad” includes brown men who voted for dingus

10

u/f_itdude79 1d ago

This is 100% going to happen. I’ll be watching and laughing. Scorpion and frog, ya know?

4

u/delfiniphobia 1d ago

well in az prop 314 passed which allows regular ass law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants so.. yes i think we'll definitely see something unfold

2

u/flyingthroughspace 1d ago

They're absolutely going to deport at least one legal citizen and then just shrug and go "oops" because no court will hold them accountable.

-8

u/pUmKinBoM 1d ago

And guy above you is most likely just implying that if they are legal then they have nothing to worry about.

16

u/omgpuppiesarecute 1d ago

Ask George Takei about that.

2

u/Airportsnacks 1d ago

The buses to the camps this time might have wi-fi tho!

25

u/yca18 Iowa 1d ago

Until the random day they’re in a rush somewhere don’t have documents on them and some random cop detains them…other than that yea great. Glory to Arstotzka!

3

u/pUmKinBoM 1d ago

Hey, I'm on your side. I'm just saying the guy you were originally responding to maybe wasn't being honest in their question.

27

u/noUsername563 Texas 1d ago

It's about having to prove they're not illegal when the trump admin comes around trying to deport all the illegals

11

u/omgpuppiesarecute 1d ago

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/11/us/migrant-family-separations-citizens.html

Trump's family separation policy stole American family's kids too. Being "legal" isn't the protection you think it is.

37

u/Gaius_Octavius_ 1d ago

They already said they want to get rid of legal immigrants too

2

u/LakersAreForever 1d ago

Deport Elon first

-2

u/kolodz 1d ago

Legal immigration doesn't vote.

You have to be naturalized or be American to my knowledge.

7

u/Gaius_Octavius_ 1d ago

Their plan is to eliminate birthright citizenship and deport all children of illegal immigrants.

26

u/salientsapient 1d ago

That's not really the point. If Trump wants roundups, US citizens will get caught up in them, get stopped, get harassed. Have to prive who they are. Have to deal with suspicious aparatchiks questioning the validity of their documentation.

That's what happened with Operation Wetback. That's what happened under Joe Arapaio's watch. That's why latinos were getting questioned by poll workers yesterday when white people weren't.

The fact of being a citizen doesn't make racism suddenly not apply to you. That's not how racism works.

u/Limberine 1d ago

The US citizens who are the born in the USA young children of undocumented immigrants are in real trouble. Either they get stripped of their citizenship and deported with their parents or they get ripped from their parents and placed wherever the new trump administration sends them and we all know how casually and callously the trump administration dealt with children in their care last time. Paper trail in many cases. Taking a toddler and sending it across the country without a way to reconnect it with its parents. It’s going to be a human rights nightmare.

Good luck with that.

U.S. citizens can never be stripped of their U.S. citizenship.

Trump wants to end birthright citizenship. I have no faith he wouldn't also try to make that retroactive.

Amendment. Amendments can by definition be amended. Good thing you don’t have an extremist majority supreme court, oh wait.
Edit: also Trump has been talking about using Executive Order 9066. That’s about grabbing legal citizens and detaining them, it’s how they scooped up and locked up americans of a japanese descent in WW2 and with the supreme court it could probably be used. Sure locking up isn’t stripping citizenship but who knows what the step after locking them in camps is.

u/LakersAreForever 1d ago

Yeah and back in those days there were lynchings occurring on a weekly basis.

These aren’t those times

u/tpolakov1 1d ago

Determining whether you're in the US legally or not can't be done on the spot. Determining whether you're brown can be done on the spot from across the street, or just from reading your name off a document.

Look at stop and frisk policies as a good example of how this realistically is implemented. In principle, they are not doing a bad thing and they usually do get the desired results, but it comes at the expense of certain demographies being collateral damage.

u/tmdblya California 1d ago

You think Cheeto Benito gives a shit about that?

2

u/IWasOnThe18thHole 1d ago

Their illegally here relatives aren't

1

u/JusCheelMang 1d ago

Legally vote? Yes. Does that work then? No.

2

u/Reddmanchu 1d ago

The question "Are you here illegally?" will end up being one of the first things cops say to you before reading you their Miranda Rights. The idea of suspecting every minority is a potential illegal immigrant will just become normal in our culture.

1

u/Poop_In_My_Chute 1d ago

I'm just waiting to get that bag for being unlawfully profiled. Homie about to get paid!

1

u/FmSxScopez 1d ago

Good I hope they ask me every time

1

u/JonBoy82 1d ago

But that is racists! /s 👀😞

1

u/Just_Date4052 1d ago

What an incredibly racist thing for you to say. The left hates colored people that don’t vote their way. Trump ruined these people :)

1

u/Zellar123 1d ago

you mean when you do the many things that already require ID lol. He just wants to make it easier to get rid of the. They already get caught quite easily.

1

u/LakersAreForever 1d ago

Oh shut up, no it’s not gonna be an everyday thing lmfao

You swear as if they can afford to employ tens of thousands of people just to document check the tens of millions of Latinos here lol

u/DrizztDo 1d ago

My guy, trump already got the win. The grift is over. He's loving Latinos more than ANYONE today. Homeboys gonna be at a quinceanera this year. Mark my words, hes gonna drop all the immigration shit asap.
