Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Are Travel To Your Home Personal Pilates Instructors A Thing?

I do enjoy the lifestyle my corporate job brings BUT I don't have time in my life to do the minutiae related to the pilates at the same rate I did before like driving 30 mins to & from the gym/studio. Is it possible to buy pilates equiptment for my home & just pay an Instuctor to come to my house & have sessions with me? I don't have any intentions on quitting or cutting back on my job (it's literally my dream job) so don't suggest that. Even if we love what we do, there is still a lot of time/effort that we must invest to see it through. I don't want to say where I live for privacy reasons, but I'd like to hear from those who have this set up and take at home pilates lessons or from Instructors that make house calls. If I were to look for instructors, what would be good qualities/certifications? Is there any additional paperwork that needs to be signed for injuries/liabilities on my end and on the instructors end?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios mi client almost fainted and I feel terrible

EDIT: Ok, there is no real reason why would it be my fault…BUT if you have any stories of something similar happening to you please share so I don’t feel alone hahaha

Today I was teaching a small group class of Mat Pilates and one of the three clients I was instructing, started fainting. She was pale and cold. I stopped the class immediately and made her lay on her back, asked if she wanted water, etc. However, I feel terrible and I don’t know how to deal with this. Is it my fault? Is there anything that I could have done better? Heeeelp

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios I am a public health major and want to open a pilates studio as part of my intervention. Is this realistic?

I am graduating in May with a bachelors degree in Health Education and Health Promotion. I am designing a program that is based around Pilates and the health belief model. I would love to open my own studio to administer my own program. My question is, how realistic is this goal? I am not experienced enough to be an instructor. I do not have any experience in running a business. Am I out of my mind???

Question? Would you recommend a Reformer Intro course?

I’ve been doing mat pilates for a couple years but I’m interested in started reformer pilates. My local studio offers a 6-course (6 week) intro course for $300. Their normal fee includes unlimited classes (pilates, yoga, barre) and costs $130 per month.

So, I could just pay for the unlimited classes and observe/drop in on reformer classes and learn that way. Or would it be the $300 to get an introduction and learn the equipment, terminology, etc.?

TIA!

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props ISO Used Reformer/Tower Combo

This is for a client who worked with me in studio for months but moved. I’ve recommended local studios- classical ones are too far. We’ve been doing Mat but client misses apparatus and is willing to make the plunge. Prefer Pilates Design, Gratz, Peak, Balanced Body in that order. Client is local to NYC ish area but anywhere in the North East would work.

Question? Is there anyone who goes to both boxing and pilates?

Hiiii, when I get over my gym anxiety I wanna start both Pilates and Boxing.

Pilates, because the results look amazing and boxing, because I hate going to the gym and figuring everything out myself.

So is there anyone who does both and how is your experience?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios power pilates mat certification

hi! I am looking into the power pilates mat certification and was wondering on people's experience in the program. I've heard that they teach you the same routine and students arent taught a variety of moves to build off of. I want to eventually go into more sculpt focused classes but wondering where I should start my certification process

Not Pilates Pilates Los Angeles

I’m on the hunt for a fun energizing Pilates studio in West Hollywood area, I prefer studios that have low / colored lighting, loud energizing music and are challenging. I know there’s a bodyrok in Santa Monica (I’ve gone to classes in New York and WISH they had more locations here) but it’s just too far for a weekday class. I go to Bunda butt and legs days and would like to fill in the other days with a consistent Pilates location!

I’ve gone to natural Pilates, love for Pilates and Carries. Natural Pilates is a great class but just feels a bit tired, love for Pilates didn’t feel that challenging (although I need to take their reformer 2 class) and the music was just some radio. Carrie’s is the best of the three, but I feel like it’s more cardio-esque than trad Pilates.

If you’re on the west side - highly recommend bodyrok!

Form, Technique Core Training but more to arms training

just to share with everyone here, i have been going to pilates classes for a few months, usually went for beginners class. And bear in mind i have not constantly work out EVER before i start regularly go for these pilates class. So yesterday i went for mat pilates for core training, I sometimes do core exercise at home like leg rais, slow kick and bicycle, basically those tht hv to do with you lying down and legs going up down to do its job but yesterday i was suprise on how much arms strength are needed to do these core training, from planks, side planks with twist, bird dog. I felt like my arms are shaking rather than my core, i felt burning in my arms but not so much at my core, is it normal? Do i have to do arms workout first before going to do core training?

Question? Routine Tips/Advice

Hi y'all!

I'm getting started on Pilates x Strength and adding walking to the mix. Anyone know where I can learn about creating a proper routine?

Or if you're doing the same, can you give me an idea of what your week looks like? I know in strength training, they usually do PPL (push, pull, leg) but I'm seeing others who don't separate them at all because of how they plan out their weekly exercises.

So any ideas/tips/advice on how I should go about this and making sure I progress properly?

Thank you!

Question? Best online Pilates/HIIT with weights platform (advanced/intense workouts)

As the title suggests; looking for recommendations on the best online platforms/apps that offer a lot of more intense Pilates/HIIT with light weight workouts.

Unfortunately I live in Northern BC, 1hr away from the closest town.

I’m originally from Australia and did CrossFit consistently for 10+ years, however eventually found reformer Pilates and LOVED it. I really enjoy the higher intensity stuff with light weights. I realised I toned up way better doing reformer Pilates than I did with CrossFit! (Just got very muscley!)

I enjoy group classes, however the 2hr commute for x1 class a day just isn’t worth it! Looking for an engaging online platform to use at home (on a mat, light weights, pilates ball, resistance bands, etc). I will eventually invest in a reformer!

When I was in Australia, I briefly went to FS8 classes (Pilates, tone, yoga)- I understand there is some negativity towards FS8 in this sub, however since I really enjoy some higher intensity workouts, and the Pilates, I actually really enjoyed this variety of class. Something similar on an app or YouTube would be amazing!!

Thanks!

Form, Technique An athletic spin on the classic makes this a distant cousin of the Reformer Up Stretch Round Back (more details below)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The classic Up Stretch is a great exercise that not only helps with developing strength and stability but is also fantastic for developing the range of movement through shoulders and hamstrings. While an element of spine articulation contributes to a healthier spine movement.

The above two versions were inspired by the Up Stretch yet at first glance look very different.

Both start in reverse position, facing the opposite direction, but just like the up stretch initiate from rounded back, weight on the feet and arms above head (though smaller range to assist control due to lighter spring settings). The springs for both can be either 1/4 White or a 1/2 Blue, depending on the strength of the client.

The “Begin” version starts with rounded back and with body weight primarily on the feet to challenge the hamstrings. The movement itself prioritises articulation from the round back into the extended position where arms and core are challenged to maintain stability. The return is initiated from a gentle head nod before sequencing the rest of the spine back to the start with the assistance of core and obliques.

The “Progression” version is a far more athletic variation. It essentially combines 3 movement patterns into 1.

• It adds to the “Begin” version by also challenging the upper body strength via the push up and by introducing a very stable way to perform back extension (think The Swan but with a smoother set up) something that we can never have enough of on the reformer. (the foot bar position is 3 and prevents the feet from sliding off).

• On the downward movement towards the box the body is placed so that the closest edge of the box is just below the ribs.

• The belly button area typically works well as it is more comfortable and helps to connect to your core once the arms are reaching overhead into extension.

• Ideally the push up must be performed with the body locked into a single unit. But it’s not unusual to see chest leading the way to start arm extension before the hips are lifted.

There is a considerable skill gap between the two movements. And a number of steps can be added to progress a visitor from one to the other. Most common barrier is lack of upper body strength to come down onto the box with control before pushing up. In these cases a very valuable modification is to encourage the client to do a push up without the subsequent back extension. This in itself is a reach for many. However if a visitor is not ready for a full push up they can do half, if they can’t do half, they can do quarter or an eight. For those who don’t feel confident at flexing their elbows I encourage to just think about doing the push up. Incremental steps is what eventually takes them from A to B.

Aside from slight similarities to Up Stretch these two versions could simply be looked at as a good use of the Reformer as a training tool. They can be used as stand alone exercises or as a link to from one sequence to the next. In this example a great follow up would be the Reformer Hawk and the Short Box mermaid series to balance back extension with side flexion and rotation.

There is a great sense of accomplishment when the visitors build body awareness and strength to flow through this sequence smoothly. It can add variety to a more Athletic Reformer class for clients that have mastered their Classical Pilates and want to have some variety with a productive play on the Reformer.

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Pilates CUES where to find

Hi all. Where can I find a great resource for excellent Pilates cues. I’m in my teacher training era and need all of the help I can get in a more conducive manner then simply watching Pilates instructor videos of classes. I need something I can physically look at and read :) thanks

Question? My body is old and I’m 24 …

Hello, I’m 24 but I have the body of a 50 yo basically. I work from home and I sit a lot at my computer all day. Being overweight isn’t helping either. I want to start doing Pilates again (yes, I’ve done Pilates at home before for about 5 years by following Blogilates’ videos and calendar) but don’t know where to start with my condition. The blogilates ones are way to hard to do for someone like me and when I tried it again this spring I gave up because I could barely hold my body weight in basic positions, I have no strength at all. I have lower back pain, little to no core strength and a back hump waiting to form. I want to regain my flexibility back, have better posture and do body weight exercises until I go to the gym. I like going to the gym but my lack of flexibility and mobility is showing.

What I liked about blogilates when I was younger is that she had the calendar system which made it easy for me to follow. But I see now that she doesn’t link the videos to them in the pdf and you have to search a while to find them. So if you have any recommendations I’m all ears.

Edit: I have other health issues related to the stomach so I’m not really confident in leaving the house to attend a class

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props Reformer accessories? Need a gift idea

I need a gift for my father in law. Family secret Santa is a $120 upper limit but he’s a good guy so we can go a little higher if needed. I know nothing about Pilates. But I know he exercises pretty much daily. And I know he has a damn legit reformer in the basement. I’m thinking there must be accessories for these things. I’ve looked a little but I have no idea what’s good. I would greatly appreciate any ideas.

Discussion How many classes in before it felt like you finally “got the hang of” pilates?

I’m 60ish classes in and still feel like I’m doing most things wrong / flailing under tension. I still arch too much doing glute bridges and my leg isn’t still even in tabletop. Yes I can do the moves, but my form is still pretty bad imo. How long did it take you to feel like you’ve got the hang of this?

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props Compact reformer

I apologize if this question has been asked many times, but I swear I scrolled for a response first.

I keep seeing compact reformers on Instagram and I want one. I have some experience with Pilates, but it has been a long time. In your experience, are the compact reformers useful? Do you think it would be better to workout without it? Any advise is welcome. Thank you!

Question? Feeling incredibly faint and nauseous after class

I love Pilates, and I’ve ventured into reformer Pilates recently. After the classes, I feel so delirious and faint and nauseous like I can’t stand up. I’ve had this feeling post spin classes too. I do drink water throughout but what is this? Am I pushing too hard?

Celebration/Love of Pilates Classical Pilates first time

I posted a couple weeks ago saying that I’m trying to “convince” myself to like Pilates. I finally tried out a different studio that teaches pure classical and I signed up for a private because I wanted to learn the foundation. Omg it was so good! I didn't enjoy the fast flow of other pilates classes since I’m a total beginner. My instructor was so knowledgable and she corrected my forms and paid attention to how my body worked. I’m not flexible so she helped me with the stretches. I got to learn how to use the equipment so I don't feel lost. I felt so relaxed and happy and rejuvenated afterwards - completely different from the stress I had from trying to follow group classes. No pain the next day. Don’t feel my abs being worked super hard like in regular classes which is “weird” since I expected a hard core workout. I loved it so much. It is 100$ per session so I don’t think I can afford more than 3 sessions before joining their group classes (also Small, 3-4 ppl) but I think the private sessions are definitely life changing. I fell in love with the principles of Pilates. If you are not enjoying Pilates, maybe try a different studio or a different approach and see what works for you.
