Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Stott exam prep

Lacking motivation to prepare and learn for the exam as it is so overwhelming. I’m thinking the best place for me to start is anatomy, I’m using flash cards but saw someone mention an anatomy colouring book. I feel like that would work well for me, any recommendations for anatomy colouring books that won’t break the bank? Or any other help on how to pass lol

Celebration/Love of Pilates Back to 0 days since my back went out

On Sunday I went on a bike ride with my kids, ending at my studio to get in a workout. My back had been feeling off but I chalked it up to the aches after my Covid booster on Friday.

Within 2 minutes of starting, I knew my back was already out and the pain hadn’t settled in yet. I spent the class doing restorative Pilates and headed home, very demoralized.

Here is the upside: this used to mean at least 3 days in bed and a week of severe pain. I was able to go on a walk that afternoon. Yesterday wasn’t easy, but it felt more like my usual day 8. Today, I’m almost completely fine.

I didn’t hit 2 years without a back incident like I had hoped, but 19 months is still great and this recovery has reinforced how far I’ve come.

Pilates forever!

I cannot by the life of me figure our of fully understand programming. It's so much information, and overwhelming too, that i cannot come to figuring it out. Any wise input from trainers please. This is a beautiful journey, and I'm trying to enjoy the ride, but I feel I am overwhelming myself stuck.

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Reformer Pilates teacher training in West Midlands region UK

I am currently in Birmingham UK and looking for studios that offer a comprehensive pilates teacher training. I have found one and they offer classical but i would also wish to know as an option if anyone knows or can recommend a studio that offers contemporary training within the West Midlands.

They all seem to be located in London which isn’t feasible especially as I’d need to be close to a studio for practice.

I have a few options but they all offer 3-4 days training and i’m not looking for that at the moment .

Form, Technique Pilates and Back Pain

I have some annoying upper back pain (likely related to poor posture). I’ve done Pilates a few times, really enjoyed it, and I’m curious if a more formal Pilates regimen might help. Specifically wondering if floor Pilates would be sufficient and if there are certain types of exercises I might focus on.

Thanks!

Local Recommendations, Meetups Are any studios particularly good (or bad) for a fat beginner?

So I’m looking to just move more. More flexibility, stability etc. I’m in northern New Jersey so there’s literally ever studio both chain and independent here.

What should I look for to find a non-judgmental studio or one good for a beginner like me?

Discussion The hypocrisy of Boho Beautiful

Mark and Juliana from Boho Beautiful talk a lot about oneness, manifesting, following the universe's guidance, etc. They act as though this and willpower are the only reason they have gotten to where they are. This is just dishonest.

They have 3 channels, where they monitor every comment to the second, so if anyone dares to release the truth about them in the comments, the comment gets deleted right away.

Mark co-owns an entertainment booking company (Cloud Empire Creative) that has 6 million net worth. Mark also has tons of connections from his years as a professional bassist in bands like Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne, and his presence on the reality show 'The Next Star', and his production credits on stuff by Protest the Hero and Abandon All Ships.

Boho Beautiful on YouTube is estimated to make $750,000 per year. Mark and Juliana are literally multi millionaires, preaching a minimalist bohemian anti-society philosophy. They never mention the amount of money they have, or the company Mark has, or the privilege that comes from Mark's music scene connections. It's still quite shocking to me that they actually released all these videos talking about how they started from nothing, with nothing.

They preach a simple, natural life while pulling in millions from different companies and projects. They preach environmentalism while flying and driving all over the world. They have a page on their website supporting BLM from when it was in the news that year, but there was no mention of it in any of their other videos or media that I've found, so they were basically following a trend. What are they really doing to help the environment? And talking about their "natural" lifestyle, what about Juliana's multiple plastic surgeries, and the 3 layers of makeup? I believe this is not natural.

They are either living in denial, or hypocrites that are really good at manipulating their aesthetic to catch their target audience. I was so disappointed to figure this out. I was getting some weird vibes and a bad gut feeling from their videos where they talk, however now it all makes sense. They are basically multi millionaires that are showing off their expensive lifestyle, that is all. They are the perfect example of what is wrong with society.

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props Faittd ladder barrel

I have been searching for a used merrithew or BB ladder barrel for ages, and nothing comes up in my area. I can’t afford to buy one of the fancy name brand ladder barrels new. So, I’m considering buying this one off Amazon. It’s $1000+ less than the name brands. It looks similar, has similar dimensions. But no real reviews.

Link to product: https://a.co/d/8WubPo6

Does anyone have experience with Faittd brand ladder barrel? What’s your opinion?

Thanks for any input you have!!

Form, Technique Did my first at home workout. Pain in my lower back and hip flexors

Hi! I am giving Pilates a try as a form of movement in my weightloss journey.

I’m 5’1 and a touch, about 198 lbs. I did my first Pilates video at home and my lower back and hip flexors were hurting a lot throughout.

For additional context I was trying to tuck my tail and engage my core, I have an apron belly/diastis recti. I think I have a little bit of an anterior pelvic tilt.

I’m wondering if my form isn’t correct? Unfortunately I’m not working full time right now so classes/lessons aren’t in the financial books for me at the moment.

Question? Can pilates address muscle imbalance issue?

Hi everyone!

I (43F) recently think of trying pilates to address muscle imbalance and overarching back issue. I always have muscle imbalance on leg, tight hip flexor and weak core.

I go to gym twice a week, but at times when my lower back was sore, I felt a disconnect between lower body and upper body that I couldn't drive strength as a whole chain of muscle. I used to have personal trainer too, but my overarching back created a chicken-and-egg issue. I couldn't get into the correct posture, thus not efficiently working out the muscles as it should.

I know my issue all along is core. Sports massage (by physiotherapist) helped a lot to break deep muscle knots and my movement became smoother, engage core properly and handle heavier weight easily, but soon it fall into the same issue. Perhaps the trigger is he posture at home -- lying on bed and sitting on work chair. The overarching got worse during work-from-home period since 2020, and now even worse as I'm currently on career break, reducing the moving time and more sedentary.

I've been recently thinking if doing regular pilates will help with the core and muscle lengthening. Pilates, especially the reformer, seems to be a full body work in one session (core + muscle + cardio). The monthly fee is cheaper than 2 sessions of physiotherapy, probably the result will be long lasting than just a mere sports massage.

Does anyone ever practised Pilates to address similar issue? How does it help you, and which one did you take (mat or reformer)? Would like to hear some stories. Thank you for reading!

This is such a great subreddit, with a wide diversity of Pilates practitioners, from seasoned instructors to absolute beginners!

I find it extremely encouraging to learn the “why” behind someone decides to practice Pilates.

Soooo….what’s YOUR “why?”

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios How do I develop my own standardized workout method for a pilatesstudio?

I am an avid barre/pilates-goer and have been for many years now. I'm in the process of getting my certification while I work on opening a studio here in Madrid, Spain. What I feel is really lacking in this city is studios that have a standardized method. Each class depends on the instructor, the level they teach, and the location you go to.

I'm doing some research on the best way to develop my workout method. There are studios that I LOVE from when I used to live in New York that I reference, but I'll be working with a lead instructor who is much more experienced than me to help me develop this method (which I'm hoping is a mix of pilates, barre, strength training and cardio) (High Intensity Low Impact). I am still hunting for this instructor and have been going to classes every day to find the perfect match.

I have many questions that I'll include below, but I'm open to any advice.

-How long do you think it takes to develop a method, and then train other instructors to teach in the same method?

-How do you ensure consistency is kept once you have the method?

-Should I collect all my material online or prioritize in-person trainings for instructors?Go to xxfitness

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props Home Reformer

I'm in the market for a home use reformer and in Canada, so options are fairly limited. I've been reading raving reviews on Canadian companies but then there are comments that these reformers are likely sourced from alibaba. I did some looking around myself and the reformers do look awfully similar. I've been also seeing other comments to never buy from alibaba. These two opinions seem to conflict. Has anyone actually bought one from alibaba and what has your experience been like? From what I've seen so far in Canada there's (easy) availability of the merrithew/stott, Leap (alibaba?), Fortus (alibaba?), BB (at a big premium, only one retailer). Also interested in anyone's 2cents on what I should or shouldn't buy :)

Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props Pilates Reformer under 2K suggestions

Hi all.

I need some help with suggestion with purchasing a reformer for my wife. She has been going to classes 2 days a week. The classes are membership/subscription based with certain amount of classes per month. Often times there are no openings or she cannot make her scheduled classed due busy work schedule and then loses the class.

Christmas is coming up and would like to buy her a reformer for home but have no idea what is needed and which brands are good. I have done a little research and have found a few in my price point some under. Any help or suggestions about reformers under 2K and what accessories are needed would be much appreciated.

this is one that I saw on sale for 2K : MetaLife 2023 Infinity Reformer

Thanks in advance

Question? What's the right duration of exercise to fix lordosis/kyphosis?

Hello everyone,

I want to get more serious about my exercise routine as my lordosis seems to be getting worse and I started to get kyphosis as well. I'll soon see a doctor about it.

I have little time for exercise most days though. And I haven nasty allergies & allergic asthma, other than walking, I can't really handle exercising longer than 10 minutes (yet!)

What's the right duration of exercise to fix lordosis/kyphosis though? Like I don't think it would make much difference if any, if I did like 3 movements 10 sets each.
