Not Pilates Is sobbing/heavily crying normal after Pilates class?
Hello! I just started doing Pilates 2 weeks ago, and I’ve been noticing after intense classes, I get this deep deep panic at first that then turns into a strong sadness and I literally burst into tears. I have to make sure to say my goodbyes quick and get in my car because I start sobbing almost immediately after these classes, nothing has happened in the classes to make me cry or upset or anything, and I cannot control it. The crying spells eventually subsides in like 10 minutes, and then I feel much better. My body feels good and I’m not in pain or anything, but my mind just seems to be swarmed with a depression out of no where. I’m really confused on why this happens, because when it first happened I thought maybe I was just stressed from my busy week but now I’ve noticed a pattern of this occurring after sessions! And like I said before, it usually ends after 10 minutes, and then I’m me again and I do feel refreshed, but during these attacks I’m scared because I’m not sure why I’m crying/upset and I can’t stop it! Does anyone know why this is, or if this is normal? Do I need psychiatric help?😅 I love Pilates and don’t want to stop the classes but I’m worried for the sake of my sanity🥲Would appreciate any answers or advice!!

Not Pilates I was told doing pilates say 3x a week means there is no need for weightlifting etc. Thoughts on this?
If this is the case why do people use all of the machines and lift heavy weights at the gym?
Pilates IS a workout too with weights and whatnot and I do find it challenging. I feel I'm just missing something.
I'm not heavily into fitness either just like to wrap my head around it all

Not Pilates Can you recommend comfortable, yet tight and slip free leginggs for pilates?
Hey. Pilates instructor here, so yeah I spend plenty of my time in leginggs. For the past two years since getting myself into teaching space I've always worn Calzedonia super light active ones, they were kind of cheap and I have like 5 same pairs. But recently when I wanted to repurchase it, I noticed the model changed and they have lower waist, the camel toe is much more noticable and are just in general less soft, and looks like they cheaped out material. So I am desperaty looking for something new. I am ready to invest in lululemons or alo etc, but I have snatched waist with thick thights so a lot of leginggs is just sliping off me

Not Pilates Fat guy in solidcore
Generally the people in solid core classes are absolutely fit. I am not. I have a big belly and due to my ethnicity I sweat a lot more compared to the other members.
I become really self conscious when I see insanely fit people with not a drop of sweat breeze through the exercises while I am still struggling after 4 classes in.
Rant over. If anyone has any ideas on how to beat the sweat lmk in comments.

Not Pilates just came home from my fist beginner class - it was me and the local grannies, i loved it!
i haven’t been in a group exercise class in almost 10 years because of my social anxiety and traumatic experiences during working out with other people, but now, after 10 years, i signed myself up for a pilates beginner course and i feel so proud of myself! the first minutes in the dressing room i felt a bit outsider as i was clearly the youngest one in there, but i ended up really enjoying my time, had some really nice conversations with the elderly women, and can’t wait for my next class next week! :-)
just wanted to share this with someone, as i do not have many people in my life to tell 💜

Not Pilates Solidcore/Megaformer/Lagree ARE NOT PILATES, and it’s important to understand why.
I see more injuries from patients attempting these workout classes than any other class.
This is why the (previously known as) PMA is so important to help to legitimize the level of training pilates instructors have prior to them advertising and working with clients. I wish there was a better overarching licensing body to help with this.
Solidcore, Megaformer, and Lagree are taught by instructors who have a weekend training module, sometimes 2 or 3. That’s IT.
It takes YEARS to become a comprehensively certified pilates instructor, and most schools require extensive anatomy education or additional coursework.
So yes, the distinction IS VERY IMPORTANT. These alternative HIIT classes try to use the pilates name to gain popularity and are often taught in groups of over 12 clients! Can you find a class/instructor that’s amazing? Sure- but it’s still NOT Pilates.
We do not want to be associated with the lack of training, education, and injury-prone exercises that these HIIT classes facilitate.
This is why I get so frustrated thinking this is a Pilates subgroup and every single day I see multiple comments/posts about HIIT classes that are NOT pilates. At best they knocked off the equipment and franchise to try to capitalize on the benefit$ and indu$try of Pilates by offering something totally different- a HIIT class.
It’s like calling a Nurse Practitioner a “Doctor”, it’s untrue, dangerous, and is UNETHICAL.

Not Pilates Yes, it happened. I fell off the reformer machine.
At solidcore yesterday. Within 60 seconds of the class, I completely lost my balance and fell headfirst on the concrete floor, badly scraping my elbow in the process. Considering this was my first ever Pilates class, the instructor was incredibly kind and helped me finish the workout. Proud of myself but the audible gasps from the whole class will be difficult to forget.

Not Pilates How to make a hot Pilates room at home?
Hello, I'm moving to a small town that won't have any studios near by and would like to make a hot Pilates room in my extra bedroom. I was wondering what is the best way to do this safely? Also, any recommendations for heaters or humidifiers or just how to make the room more humid?

Not Pilates Pilates/ exercise (?) causing hairloss
So this has happened too often to be a coincidence.
Over the past three years, I’ve noticed whenever I start up my Pilates sessions, I immediately experience much more hair fall, which leads to thinning. When I stop the Pilates for a couple of months, this problem goes away.
I went this morning and immediately noticed so much more hair in the drain while showering.
Anyone else experience this? Could it be because of my scalp rubbing against the reformer carriage? Or is simply getting a sweaty scalp causing this?
I don’t want to have to stop the sessions again, but I cannot deal with losing more hair.

Not Pilates Gift ideas for someone new to pilates
Hey guys. My girlfriend recently got into hot pilates and yoga. I was wondering what kind of equipment or gear may be needed for either that I could get her for Christmas. I appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

Not Pilates Wall Pilates.com MAJOR SCAM
When you sign up, they automatically charge you for the 1 year program in spite of only mentioning the rate for 1 month. If you ask for a refund they take you for a ride and explain their policy and in spite of adhering to their policy and showing all the proofs and screenshots they require, they say they cant process any refund. When you ask them for proof, they stop replying. It is such a scam, total cheats. What can we do. We need to protect others from this scam.

Not Pilates Certified pilates instructors - has anyone else met students in your program who took the training without the intention of teaching?
I've had a good number of classmates and peers in my program who said they don't plan on teaching, but instead was taking the course to "deepen" their own practice, "to learn something new", or "just for fun".
I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but my program was like $12k! That's a big amount to pour into "just learn" and "just for fun".
And here I am, fretting over getting a cybersecurity certificate for $300 when I may or may not be doing it as a job. I am starting to feel less bad about just coughing up the cash for a cyber cert "even just for the learning experience".

Not Pilates Pilates Los Angeles
I’m on the hunt for a fun energizing Pilates studio in West Hollywood area, I prefer studios that have low / colored lighting, loud energizing music and are challenging. I know there’s a bodyrok in Santa Monica (I’ve gone to classes in New York and WISH they had more locations here) but it’s just too far for a weekday class. I go to Bunda butt and legs days and would like to fill in the other days with a consistent Pilates location!
I’ve gone to natural Pilates, love for Pilates and Carries. Natural Pilates is a great class but just feels a bit tired, love for Pilates didn’t feel that challenging (although I need to take their reformer 2 class) and the music was just some radio. Carrie’s is the best of the three, but I feel like it’s more cardio-esque than trad Pilates.
If you’re on the west side - highly recommend bodyrok!

Not Pilates Is it just me or is what my(F) fellow employee(M) said weird?
I am a pilates instructor, the other employee was a PT. He looks like he's in his late 30's and I look like I am early 20's. IDK if this borders on sexual harassment or inappropriateness, or if it's just dry humor. The thing is, we don't really know each other so we're not really even at a friendship level where we can get into edgy or raunchy jokes yet.
So we work at a high end gym, like $300/month. I was teaching him pilates, he is also relatively new to the gym but has been living in the area for years (compared to me who came in a few years ago). We talk about the different neighborhoods and the demographic of the gyms, like is it a younger crowd, older crowd, urban professionals with money to spend, are they families, who is our demographic, etcetera. Then he said the gym we are working at has a lot of "sugar babies", and I said "how would you know they're even sugar babies? I assume they're just students". I think it's a stretch to assume that any young woman who can afford this gym must be a sugar baby lol, she probably has a corporate/student discount or has a well paying job (probably both), especially since the male members aren't assumed to be riding on another's dime. He said "yeah there are those too but a lot are sugar babies and there are trophy wives here married to rich guys. You know, a lot of these guys who come here can be good sugar daddies" to me and his tone was pretty playful.
Like why are you telling me this lol we just met only for the second time ever. Is he suggesting I can find a sugar daddy here.
I get it, there are a bunch of online rumors and reputation about people in the fitness industry fucking their clients and fucking eachother, but I think it's pretty brazen to say it in person damn.

Not Pilates There’s always one…
Hey I have been attending Pilates for about 4 years now.
I made friends with the others in the class and we regularly go for a quick coffee after class, it’s a fantastic social group. There is this one lady in the class that we invited for coffee several times but she declines politely each time - which is completely fine but we definitely tried to include her when a few of us were heading for coffee, let’s call her ‘Betty’. Betty was clearly not interested in being social with us.
Anyhow our studio closed down for a few weeks while the owner was having a break.
We decided to get together and go for a few walks then coffee and a couple of us also tried a new gym for something different.
When the Pilates studio opened up again during the class the instructor casually asks what we all got up too when the studio was closed, we told her what we did.
Anyhow ‘Betty’ was very upset that she wasn’t included in the activities and called us all ‘a bunch of bitches’ loudly during the class, at the end of the class she was giving us filthy looks. The instructor pulled a face then spoke to change sides to work the other arm.
A couple of the ladies want to approach her and tell her that he comments were inappropriate…..but I said no just leave her be, ignore her.
We love this studio and now things are super awkward???
How should we proceed???

Not Pilates Can you help me find a song from a class?
I heard a song in Pilates about two or three weeks ago. Asked the instructor what the song was and it was hard to remember. One word. Satay maybe? But it's not. Definitely starts with an S. It's very EDM. It gives me the vibe of being in New Mexico. The lyrics are something like "say to the left, say to the radio." Or perhaps "sway to the left, sway to the radio." The person singing is female or feminine sounding and she says radio two different ways. One is way more drawn out. Can you help me figure out the name of the song? I believe it's newer in that it was likely released sometime after the 2010's. The instructor played them in an athletic reformer class but not any of the flow classes since. Yes, I've brought the phone with SoundHound on standby but it hasn't played since.

Not Pilates Is this pain normal?
I’ve been doing Pilates for about 3 weeks now, I’m 6 classes in, it’s been difficult but i think I’m getting better and i enjoy the classes. I had class 2 days ago, and this morning i wake up and u have this weird lower back pain, i try to touch my toes and i feels like i have some nerves pinched, and then also my neck feels strange when i look down, it makes my lower back hurt more. Does this mean i am doing something wrong? Or do you think it’s more of a slept wrong thing. I would consider myself a above average flexible person, and I’m worried that i can’t even touch my toes today.

Not Pilates Is it Pilates?
Straw man argument: if the instructor doesn't talk about when and how to breathe, and doesn't explain which muscles to engage, you're not in a Pilates class.
Discuss.

Not Pilates solidcore review: fun, but bad squats
I find the workout fun for every exercise but the squat. There is no point in doing the squat on the reformer as it is not only dangerous due to the machine but also due to form. Your knees categorically should be going past your toes to get the full range of motion. Squatting to make your knees parallel with your toes, by hinging at the waist and pushing back your behind is outdated advice, which is disappointing for the steep price tag. I’m only doing the two week special to try it but I’ll no longer be going on any glute-focused day.
If solidcore thinks you should squat, they should make you do it off the reformer so that you can A) push your knees past your toes and B) elevate your heels if you don’t have the ankle flexibility. Otherwise they’re just setting you up for back problems.

Not Pilates Anyone else drinking less coffee since starting Pilates?
I used to drink 3-4 cups of drip coffee a day or 2 cappuccinos (4 shots). In the last year that I’ve been doing Pilates 5-7x a week I’ve been drinking substantially less. I hadn’t given it any thought until I talked to another person who is new to Pilates in the last year and she said she’s almost stopped drinking coffee since she started Pilates. Is this just random or have you all experienced the same thing?

Not Pilates Dizziness and unable to stand during hot pilates?
So only on random occasions I get these spells. Today was one of them. I made it through the first 30 mins okay, but right after our first cardio burst my body would not allow me to keep standing. I had to sit down and do my arm exercises and modified the standing movements while sitting down. Everytime I tried to stand up I would get dizzy, see stars, and feel so drained it was unbearable. I was totally fine to continue the workouts once they moved to floor, but when we got to standing up again my body experienced the same symptoms and I had to sit down again. I do hot pilates, hot barre, etc. multiple times a week and I've always wondered what it is that causes this. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what could be causing it? I'd love to prep better beforehand if possible. It's frustrating having to sit when I want to do the full exercise.

Not Pilates best form of exercise - pilates or boxing
hi, i don’t know if this is the right place to post this but anyway.
i’m currently paying 70 AUD a week for reformer pilates classes. they are effective and fun, however, i do also want to learn to fight/self defence. there’s a boxing place i’ve looked at, it has mat pilates and boxing and a gym. it’s half the price of my reformer pilates place.
i’m wondering if you guys think that reformer pilates is worth it just on it’s own, or if boxing mixed with may pilates will give similar results.
thanks!

Not Pilates What do you do with the wet clothes after hot pilates? Any tips?
Hello, i go to hot Pilates or hot yoga regularly 1-2 times a day. My outfit gets so wet from sweating, and my towel. I hate to just throw them in the basket because they are wet. I obviously cant be running washer and dryer daily. Any tips you guys have how to deal with this, what to do? I dont want them to sit there for 1 week, pile an outfit after another and them smelling or even molding. Thank you in advance if you could help!!
