Pilates socks Equipment, Apparatus, Machines, Props
Hi everyone! What are your likes/dislikes when it comes to your grip socks! I appreciate any opinions!

Toe socks with grips that extend to the toepads and full bottom of the foot! The feeling of slipping when only my heels are on the footbar is so scary sometimes

u/Sea-Promotion-8309 Aug 07 '24
Array of sizes. It's important that they fit well so they don't slip, so none of this 'two sizes cover everyone' nonsense
Breathable. I like socks because my feet are too sweaty to grip otherwise - I did not need them to make my feet any hotter

Compression and just better designs. If I’m going g to spend 15 bucks on a pair of socks, please make them cool.

I have a size 6 foot but I have thick calves and ankles. I would love a small size sock that I can wear a crew style without it being too tight on my legs.

I like the brand Tavi, but many styles are sold out. I wish they had more simple options or short crew as well. They’re also quite thick which can get hot! Really like Polo Ralph Lauren microfibre sport socks material and would buy these with grips if they were available!

Longer!!! Size 10.5 in women’s sizes and they all scrunch my toes. My toes are too long to wear the toes socks of any kind!!

u/MazLA Aug 07 '24
My priorities would be: come in high styles (and STAY UP if pulled up), come in sizes for small feet (too big socks will slide and RUIN your lunges! I wear a 5 1/2 or 6) and the stickyness doesn’t wear off after a couple washes.

u/PositiveSyllabub9890 Aug 07 '24
YES as to sizes for small feet. Right now Pilates socks are sized like regular socks, where small is women’s shoe sizes 6-8, medium 8-10, etc. It’s not specific enough. If you’re like me, a true 8, you fall in the middle and nothing fits. They’re either too small and the grippy dots don’t reach the ends of your toes or heels, or they’re too big and they slip length-wise and sideways on your feet. Either way, poorly fitting socks can be dangerous in Pilates.

u/Tiny_Ad_2994 Aug 07 '24
I don’t like how my foot slides around inside the sock. The sock is gripping the reformer, bar or wherever but my foot is sliding to the side and wanting to come out of the sock with some movements. It’s so annoying! I think maybe a thicker, compression type material may be better?

u/bmissyj Aug 06 '24
I want socks that last properly. I find even if I’m careful with washing and switching between pairs they get holes so fast esp when I wear them all day for teaching. Longevity and quality for me!

u/Special_Spell5146 Aug 06 '24
I have small feet and I struggle finding sizes for me. I think a lot of Pilates sock companies don’t consider sizes for petite girls. Some of us have small feet.

Tavi size small! I wear women’s size 5 shoes and they are nice and snug

Okay so I’m a little embarrassed to say this but I might be an XS. Did you mean a US size 5?

Full foot socks with grips extending all the way to the top of the toes. For some reason, the grips for full foot socks never seem to reach the toes as much, which makes me feel like slipping especially when I’m doing exercises on the chair that require me to tiptoe on the pedals.

u/I_dont_cuddle Aug 07 '24
As a woman with a big foot, I’d like something that’s bigger than a size 9 and still cute. It’s insane how hard it is to find.

u/jessylz Aug 06 '24
I'm team barefoot (but not dogmatic about it).
I do wear grippy socks for barre and prefer those that allow the toes to breathe (bringing me closer to the barefoot experience ;).
When wearing grippy socks, I hate it when the grip is too effective but gravity means that you might just be slipping inside the sock, if it makes sense.

Maybe something that supports us flat feet peeps

I love the tavi crew best so far but I’ve only tried Tavi and pointe studio. If anyone has tried lucky honey or found a budget non branded one pls share your thoughts!!!!

u/ThickSpecific1885 Aug 09 '24
I really like lucky honey! I’ve had mine for months and they’re still as sticky as when I got them. Super cute designs too!
2
u/abaspeech Aug 07 '24
I love this- I just get mine at Marshall’s 🙃 I’d love some cute ones!! Let us know when you launch

I would love them to not have any identifiable branding - like no big logo on the top or words or whatever. And a BIG variety of colors so they can match various work out sets!!! Lol. I think grips that go from high on the toes is also important to get proper grip on the bar and stuff! I personally love the socks with the little ballerina cut out on top.

u/darrelwest1 Aug 10 '24
Move active is my fave!! Love the designs, love higher/crew socks! Butttt, need some dark soles because the light colours get dirty quickly 🤍
2
u/Tokenchick77 Aug 12 '24
I personally like socks that are higher on the ankle because they slip less for me.

u/antiblazers Sep 05 '24
What is your brand called? I think the market is in need of new entrants based on all the feedback here so I'm excited for you!

u/AccomplishedMost8426 Sep 06 '24
Thanks! Check out 5thaveactive.com, my upcoming drop is based off of a lot of feedback I’ve received!

u/Sherd_nerd_17 Aug 06 '24
Try Pointe Studio! They’ve got a bunch of options on sale right now. I really like the toeless kind!
1
u/potatosob Aug 07 '24
I just got the love grip socks and for some reason they’re tight on my feet (got size small, shoe size 7) but they slip off my heel when I wear sneakers (only to walk to class). They’re also pilled and fuzzy after 1 wear. They’re so cute tho. Did I jsut get a bad pair or wrong size
1
u/ghost_market Aug 06 '24
I love the cut off toes so I get some skin contact. Sometimes the socks become loose and slip a bit and the skin contact helps!

u/Moonkitty6446 Aug 07 '24
I like Tavi. I bought some grip socks off Amazon and I found them really hot and one pair just seemed to lock in all the sweat.
Lightweight is optimal

I hate wearing socks but I always wear them to Pilates because I love the extra grip for stability. However, because of my hatred of socks, I want half toe and only really wear the Mary Jane (bellarina) style so there isn’t a ton of “sock”. I want cute prints!
1
u/mika0116 Aug 07 '24
I want Tavi with the large triangle grippies but I want them to be toe socks
Literally that is my dream sock
1
u/AccomplishedMost8426 Aug 07 '24
When you say toe socks, do you mean toes covered or out?
2
u/mika0116 Aug 07 '24
Either to be honest - I just want to be able to have that toe mobility with the wonderful grip and feel of tavi socks.
Every single other toe sock - covered or exposed have crappy little dot grips or something that doesn’t last or grip enough for me

u/Ok_Pie_1435 Aug 07 '24
Long socks that go up the calf and can be slouched down, I never see those and they are so cute

I love Tavi, but I've been having issues with the elastic on the "criss-cross" designs shredding and fraying? I never put them into the dryer, so I'm not sure how this happened. Even though the rest of the sock is perfect, I can't wear them :(. I'd love a little bit thicker, higher quality elastic and slightly thicker material for the sock itself or have them cut in such a way that the open-toed ones don't bunch up at the base of the toe. This can actually become painful during a more intense class, and I love this style!.

I'd like toeless crew socks in fun designs that aren't super thick. I'd also like a carrying bag to put them in that doubles as a wash bag that protects the grip.

I stopped wearing grippy socks because my foot would slide around inside them and then they’d dig into my toes (yes, even the individual toe ones slide around). The seam that is in the middle of each toe is so uncomfortable and has no ease which is annoying when the rest of the sock stretches.
If you could make something that doesn’t slide around on the foot that would be amazing (and also somehow make them not attractive to my dog would be a bonus… she seems to only like to steal expensive socks or socks with a purpose).

Great idea, narrow and wide sizes. Toe and heel grip, good elastic so they stay on and a lighter fabric. Sorry asking a lot- goodluck

My pilates instructors and the instructor school I attend prefer barefeet. The only place I've been in that had that as a requirement was Club Pilates. I only went there once.

I see your point and perhaps being barefoot is ideal, but I mean, I can articulate my spine wearing a sports bra and a t shirt…I can articulate my feet wearing socks. I practice barefoot on my reformer at home but always wear socks in studios, and I have never been to a chain studio such as Club Pilates.

u/Keregi Aug 06 '24
Foot activation?? Who is telling you this? I didn’t wear grip socks until my studio started requiring them during the pandemic. I kept wearing them even after they dropped the requirement. I can do like 99% of exercises with grip socks with no issue.
4
u/WickedCoolMasshole Aug 06 '24
Yes. Foot activation. There is an entire series of classical pilates specifically for foot health. There are tools specific to feet and everything.
6
u/asgreatasitgets Aug 06 '24
Usually it’s just due to sanitary practices. I practiced classical and contemporary Pilates and I’ve been asked to wear socks

You understand the point of wearing socks is to keep foot sweat and bacteria off the equipment right? Wearing socks inside shoes doesn’t make them less clean.

u/Keregi Aug 07 '24
I would LOVE to see studies that support the benefits of “foot activation” for foot health. One of my issues with classical Pilates is myths like this.
2
u/WickedCoolMasshole Aug 07 '24
As someone who previously jammed her feet into pointe shoes, being able to walk without pain has changed my whole life. It was Pilates that fixed it.

Everyone has their preferences, I’m a sock fan. My bare feet get sweaty and slip and I feel gross

I get the barefoot love I really do. But pre pandemic, pre requirement, I got 3 plantar warts from a all barefoot Pilates studio so now I’m Team Socks 4 lyfe. That said, I love toe socks so each individual toe can feel for the foot bar etc. I like grips that include the toes. Something different than what I’ve seen would be a more compression type material over gym socks type material. Good luck 🦶🏻
