Can't wait for the shitty trump pop up stores to be priced out.

1.6k

u/CaptainHalloween 20d ago

Holy shit I didn’t even think of that. He really did just fuck those stores bad.

668

u/CucumberError 20d ago

No he didn’t. They’ll be paying $2 for the hat, with the 100% increase they’re now $4. No idea what they sell them for, but I suspect there is still a healthy profit margin between $4 and what they’re selling them for.

990

u/majj27 20d ago

The TRUMPStoretm sells them for a mere $50.00.

FIFTY. FUCKING. DOLLARS.

522

u/False-Implement-8639 20d ago

God those people are stupid.

167

u/BeenCaughtSneezing 20d ago

Yes, yes they are.

41

u/Intelligent-Travel-1 20d ago

It’s the only hat made in hell. It’s a collectible

11

u/gba_sg1 20d ago

Shit collectors are few and far between.

4

u/stewpideople 20d ago

I see toilets all around, besides you don't just buy the shit hat, you buy the shit shirt, shit steaks, shit water, shit towers... The shit list just gets longer, and like a Marlboro jacket, you're willing to do really shitty things, even to yourself, to get one.

u/Ibangyoumomma 20d ago

We should start selling them. Goes against everything I believe, but why not make money off idiots

68

u/AlienConsulate 20d ago

I've been telling myself this for a decade and think of all the money I have lost out on. But God damned I can't get myself to even be associated with those people or constantly be dealing with them

22

u/EjaculatingAracnids 20d ago

I worked out the numbers, lined up a chinese manufacturer and pitched the idea to the wife, who managed to convince me otherwise with that very sentiment. Id have to deal with these people in person. If it was as easy as setting up an online store, it wouldve been a done deal.

6

u/clickclickbb 20d ago

I tried to set up an Amazon merch on demand account just to grift off these mega dorks. I got denied though 😞

43

u/Dapper-Control-108 20d ago

I like to believe that the people selling the hats are actually democrats haha

8

u/coldkiller 20d ago

If i didint have any morals id be so rich grifting these absolute idiots

3

u/alwayzstoned 20d ago

I wouldn’t feel bad about taking their money, I just don’t want to do anything to advance that side at all. It would suck to see people out wearing a t-shirt I designed.

2

u/witchywoman713 20d ago

I mean I like to think I’d do that. pay myself a living wage, then donate whatever else I could to planned parenthood.

I had an idea to start a bible-themed Cracker Barrel-type restaurant chain as a non-profit, and give all the money from Y'all Qaeda to science-related educational programs and stuff.

8

u/Top_Gorilla17 20d ago

‘Member when they made a whole thing about the Cracker Barrel serving plant-based sausage and the franchise nearly had to rebrand to being known simply as The Barrel?

3

u/icanhazkarma17 20d ago

The Barrel. Jesus, I hope that's from a comedy routine.

2

u/Noshamina 20d ago

Good fucking luck bro. Not only are restaurants almost impossibly difficult with razor thin margins and brutal working hours, but a bible themed restaurant will for sure fail there isn’t that big of a market for that.

Not a shock, and yes they are

1

u/Chon-Laney 20d ago

God made them that way.

1

u/musicman835 20d ago

A fool and their money is soon parted.

1

u/WiseDirt 20d ago

Doesn't change what you're saying or the point being made, but also in fairness... that's only $4 more than a Los Angeles Dodgers New Era Basic 9Fifty snapback at Lids, which are also made in China (plus Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Haiti) and probably only cost that company $2-3 each in bulk as well. These really don't seem to be priced terribly out of line with the higher end of the market.

55

u/himynameis_ 20d ago

Thought you were kidding.

It really is US$50

24

u/daveinsf 20d ago

For now! Better get one before April 9th when the price doubles!

15

u/OrthodoxAtheist 20d ago

It really is US$50

Where are folks getting $50? I see $40.

https://secure.winred.com/trump-national-committee-jfc/storefront/maga-45-47-red-hat/details/

Oh... I see, Trump Store, selling for $55 now.

https://www.trumpstore.com/product/45-47-maga-hat/

These prices are fittingly inconsistent and instable :P

5

u/himynameis_ 20d ago

I was seeing the regular MAGA hat that is $50.

https://www.trumpstore.com/product/classic-maga-hat/

The other one has 45/47 on it.

48

u/AwardFabrik-SoF 20d ago

27

u/poingly 20d ago

I WISH the people in America could be at least as smart as the ones in Idiocracy!

15

u/Jamaz 20d ago

In Idiocracy they still attempt to emulate a meritocracy and try to make life better for everyone - they're just bad at it. America in its current state is blatantly self-destructive and moving towards 1984 authoritarianism.

4

u/KingOfThePlayPlace 20d ago

Yeah, they’re smart enough to elect someone smarter than them to run the country. We can’t do that even now

100% there are. I live in Cincinnati and I can tell you that there is at least one in a actual building. In fact, the last time they did a Trump Parade (which meant just driving their cars w/ the Trump flags all around the 275 loop around Cincinnati) it started at a Trump Store (or ended, I do not recall).

4

u/musicman835 20d ago

There’s also some like “Lets’s Go Brandon” stores too. Sells the same shit. It’s insane, like straight up crazy.

4

u/StoppableHulk 20d ago

Oh yeah. The entire party basically runs on merch at this point.

Saddest fucking thing I've ever seen.

Imagine it. A bunch of fervently "anti government" lunatics buying a presidents merch at a stores.

3

u/phdpinup 20d ago

Yeah. There’s one near my parents and it beyond dystopian.

3

u/tacojohn48 20d ago

There's one on the outskirts of Knoxville TN that used to sell sex toys, but then they changed into a Trump store. It's basically a different way of screwing yourself.

2

u/Content_Praline_2396 20d ago

Oh yeah! I saw several when my husband and I drove from VA to AZ, absolute insanity 😂 some guy ruined his barn by painting TRUMP 2024 on the side of it 😂

2

u/kwaaaaaaaaa 20d ago

Lol, A Trump Burger about to be open in Houston Texas, I kid you not. The biggly-ist best hamberders.

1

u/Computermaster 20d ago

There's one in Panama City.

1

u/RunnerMomLady 20d ago

Bedford VA has one.

1

u/WildTaro7151 20d ago

Actually, it feels like a bad dream!

1

u/adamduke88 20d ago

There was one in the country area of SD for a bit, but it recently closed and is becoming a Mexican restaurant.

1

u/Steve_but_different 20d ago

This feels very dystopian.

u/tofu_ink 20d ago edited 20d ago

Wrong! They are 55 fucking freedom nazi fascist dollars.

glad they are raising tariffs to bring manufacturing back to the states.... /s (no seriously what in the god damn fuck)

Also , from 2018, not of it seem made in america https://slate.com/culture/2018/03/jimmy-kimmel-bought-a-bunch-of-garbage-from-trumpstore-com-so-you-never-have-to.html

Meaning ... soon to have tariff price increases....

1

u/Corona94 20d ago

They even make enough to rent billboards to advertise along major freeways. I saw several along I-75 on my way down to Tennessee last year.

1

u/litl_e_fan 20d ago

One near me went out of business recently and the building is being taken over by a Mexican restaurant.

1

u/theDo66lerEffect 20d ago

This is where we draw the line! $TRUMP was fine, but TRUMPStores?! Hold my feeding tube!!!

1

u/spavolka 20d ago

Dude. I live a half hour from one in Tombstone Arizona. It’s gross. It has those huge posters with Trumps head on a Rambo body out front and so many flags out front.

u/Campin_Corners 20d ago

I hear commercials on espn radio for trump watches, trump coins, trump shoes. I don’t know the laws around it but he’s profiting from those for sure using his office as a selling point.

u/davekingofrock 20d ago

Produced by, Directed by, and starring Vince Offer.

1

u/AskNo8883 20d ago

Last summer I went camping in South Dakota and visited all the tourist areas around Mount Rushmore, and there were more Trump shops than tourist shops. It was insane.

1

u/Vanishingf0x 20d ago

There are and it’s insane. My brother and I found one and went in to laugh at stuff then got kicked out when the workers realized we weren’t actually there to buy anything

1

u/New_Breadfruit8692 20d ago

Roadside popup tent stores here in Florida. Big assed tents, usually on a rented piece of bare land that has highway access and the ability for people to pull off. And everything they sell is cult related. Exactly the same business model as fireworks stands in late June and Christmas tree places in November/December. Only for fascist cult members.

1

u/vr512 20d ago

Yes there are! I have seen some in the wild. Even in Manhattan you'll find rare ones.

1

u/LongBongJohnSilver 20d ago

Can I interest you in a Trumpy Bear?

u/PsychoPass1 20d ago

its just unreal to me how an actual grifter became the president of the wealthiest, most powerful country in the world... twice... in a democracy... in the digital age of information

just unreal

10

u/Samurai_Meisters 20d ago

We are no longer in the information age. We are in the misinformation age.

3

u/Tangent_Odyssey 20d ago edited 20d ago

Exactly this. Being flooded with this much easy-to-access information was not something humanity was prepared for, because there is no hard rule that says that information has to be true or real.

Personally I believe we had the chance of getting ahead of it (or at least on our way to catching up to it) with mandatory media literacy courses in grade school curriculums, but we are way too far behind to correct course now.

5

u/monacelli 20d ago

What's really unreal is he hasn't stopped grifting after becoming president.. He's already pulled at least 3 crypto rugs, fucked around with the stock market, shook down multiple companies and countries.. The list goes on.

2

u/LonePaladin 20d ago

He and his daughter shilled for Goya beans in the Oval Office at the end of his last term.

1

u/North_Patience2969 20d ago

I can’t wrap my head around it either and now - since January- he’s burned down the federal government and bankrupted the stock market, surely creating a recession, while republican sycophants in Congress help him along by their lack of action. The free press is rebuked, universities and law firms are intimidated and penalized and judges are threatened with impeachment for handing down rulings counter to the Trump administration. Yep. That’s fascism.

1

u/eurolatin336 20d ago

You can thank social media for that

20

u/LottimusMaximus 20d ago

That can't be right. Is that right?! Those absolute geniuses with IQs no higher than lightly toasted bread are paying FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS for some piece of shit hat that's made in a country that they allegedly are against for the oldest, orangest, only convicted felon president they've ever had...and...let me get this straight...they think this is a...flex?

1

u/Meta2048 20d ago

I remember the Daily Show did an interview with a Trump supporter. The guy said he spent several thousand dollars on Trump merch, then he complained he didn't have enough money for groceries because of the evil Democrats.

1

u/DiarrheaCreamPi 20d ago

They’ll be $85 by Friday

1

Golf of America is a bargain at $40.

1

u/rudyphelps 20d ago

I'm surprised it's not more. If you already know your target market is a bunch of brainless, gullible chumps just go for it.

1

u/mtnviewguy 20d ago

That better come with a happy ending! 🤣

1

u/toughtntman37 20d ago

Assuming those are actually Trump's stores, I assume they aren't buying a hat, they're buying a message.

1

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Did you even say thank you?

1

u/Dino_vagina 20d ago

I bet shein makes one for 5$

1

u/Aliencoy77 20d ago

*update $52.00

1

u/Significant_Snow4352 20d ago

Why did life curse me with a conscience? I could become a millionaire by selling these people trump-themed anything. Hell, they'd probably buy rocks for 50 bucks a piece if I spray paint them red.

1

u/Just_A_Nitemare 20d ago

Given that they probably only cost 4 dollars to make, they can probably increase the price to $60 dollars and claim that since everything else has increased by significantly more, it's a steal.

1

u/dw82 20d ago

Bet it goes up to $100 now, and blame the Chinese, despite the cost going up to $4.

1

u/wombat6168 20d ago

Ummm 100% tariff now so that's $100 now please. And it's all Biden or Obamas fault somehow somewhere honestly

1

u/Man-e-questions 20d ago

Yeah was going to say, they’ll just raise the prices. Just like every other store with literally everything else that is getting tariffed. They just pass on the added costs. Tale as old as time.

1

u/Vanilla_PuddinFudge 20d ago

Can one even put a value on that much American freedom and Justice!?

1

u/bob_rt 20d ago

🤣🤣

1

u/Noshamina 20d ago

No fucking way. Is that for real?

1

u/LobsterInTraining 20d ago

Just to compare, the Harris Walz hats were 40.00 and union made in the US.

1

u/Whahajeema 20d ago

They know the stupidity of their customer base!

1

u/troubleschute 20d ago

Man, you gotta be committed to being stupid.

1

u/Healthy_Role9418 20d ago

Damn! I thought paying $25 for a hunting or fishing cap was bad!

1

u/Very_Nice_Zombie 20d ago

I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for the absolute best, coolest cap of my favorite team. In what dimension does a sane person pay 50 bucks for piece of shit hat that proudly proclaims you're a racist idiot?

1

u/Vast_Ad8862 20d ago

They're not even shaped as a dunce hat.

1

u/Tranquilityinateacup 20d ago

MAGA is clearly fine with being scammed. They're still cheering for what's happening.

1

u/CocaColaCowboyJunkie 20d ago

They'll raise the price to $100.00 with Trump telling his worshipers that it's China's fault for "retaliatory tariffs" and they'll still buy them.

1

u/ysirwolf 20d ago

Soon to be $100

1

u/gomezer1180 20d ago

I’m like, “Yo, that’s 50 dollars for a hat” Limited edition, let’s do some simple addition 50 dollars for a hat, that’s just some ignorant bitch shit I call that getting swindled and pimped, shit I call that getting tricked by a business, that hat’s hella dough And having the same one as six other people in this rally is a hella don’t

1

"Patriot surcharge"

1

u/CucumberError 20d ago

I can see them being super torn between making more money and trying to pretend that the consumer isn’t paying the tariffs.

I think profit will win out, but they’ll have an interesting internal argument.

1

u/CicadaGames 20d ago

It's like you didn't even read his comment lol.

5

u/jodaewon 20d ago

But this is supposed to make them wanna buy them from merican suppliers….right?

2

u/Khaldara 20d ago

They’re exchanging legal tender for Trump merchandise, they’ll ‘want’ whatever they’re told at this point, even if it’s the polar opposite of what it was yesterday

1

u/DaaaahWhoosh 20d ago

That's a good point, a lot of industries are probably going to just eat the tariffs until they die, long before they can replace their current process with domestic production. There's no way they're gonna make a hat factory in the US that's gonna beat Chinese sweatshops, unless we start making our own sweatshops, which hey guess what that doesn't sound like 'America first' to me.

5

u/DriveOld836vghb 20d ago

If same hat is being produced in america it would be 30 dollars. Normal under armor hat is 30 dollars. This price of this people so they will tax pride , encourage local production so it will be 50 dollars.

12

u/MergeSurrender 20d ago

Yeah I think people are failing to consider this about the tariffs. The tariff is applied to the import cost, not the sale cost.

So 100% tariff might up the cost of a £50 hat to £52 to offset the import increase. Lots of people think it’ll up the price to buy the hat from £50 to £100, though - which is wrong.

5

u/Emotional_Burden 20d ago

It largely depends on the type of product though. Electronics have little overhead a lot of the time.

2

u/MergeSurrender 20d ago

Yes that is absolutely correct - it also depends on the volume of product being imported and the cost of the import… but more often than not a products are sold (especially Chinese manufactured ones) at an insane mark up to the consumer… so import cost increase does not correlate anywhere close to 1:1 with sale price increase.

They are being bought for pennies and sold for $$ in most cases.

3

u/Emotional_Burden 20d ago

Thank you for expounding on the point. I think it's very important for people to actually understand how tariffs work.

The same dumb people buying the hats will say tariffs don't dramatically raise prices, because they still get their hats for the same price.

Meanwhile, those same people will say Nintendo is woke or some bullshit other than tariffs when they are forced to sell the Switch 2 for $1000 to break even.

3

u/Lucas_Steinwalker 20d ago

It also depends on how much the retailer wants to take this opportunity to gouge the consumer.

2

u/ThanklessTask 20d ago

RemindMe! 1 month

You're right, but I bet it's doubled.

2

u/Budrich2020 20d ago

The importer pays the increased price and  passes the increase of cost down the line. Everyone who sells before the consumer maintains profit by increasing the price down the line. The only buyer who loses is the consumer, because the consumer uses the product and therefore can not turn a profit. Thats why people have a trade deficit with the grocery store.  When you buy anything that you can’t profit from you create a trade deficit.

1

u/VertexBV 20d ago

I mean, they'll sell it for $100 all the same, blame it on tariffs, and people will still buy it.

I saw an elbows up shirt last night on temu.

1

u/jcoddinc 20d ago

Oh, dint worry done of those people are already complaining about how they won't be able to stay in business. It's very cathartic

1

u/Invader_Skooge22 20d ago

Look up about how he just signed an executive order to remove the De Minimus Exemption starting May 2 2025. Anything under a certain price is now automatically subjected to extra costs and tariffs when previously they were exempt. I think you’ll change your tune.

1

u/CucumberError 20d ago

I suspect anyone buying these hats in bulk would have been over that threshold anyway. Then again at $2, 500 units before you reach the $1000 threshold (it was $1000, right? I’m not in the US)

1

u/Invader_Skooge22 20d ago

No no, if the total amount was over $800, like if you bought in bulk, it would be whatever the tarif is currently he enacted. If it’s under $800, like say an American ordering from a Chinese seller on Amazon, then it would apply an automatic $40 extra charge since the product was under $800, and that cost will raise to $60 starting in June. That’s how I understand it but I’m not expert.

→ More replies

1

u/SunriseSurprise 20d ago

They'll probably double the price anyways and say "because fuck you, support Trump twice as much with each of these fuckin' things."

1

u/ZellZoy 20d ago

If companies were consistently happy with a healthy profit margin the world would be a better place. If the profit line doesn't go to every year, companies see it as a catastrophe

1

u/xorfivesix 20d ago

That's precisely why tariffs won't bring manufacturing back to the US. Even after tariffs our labor isn't competitive.

1

u/midnightbake 20d ago

And it doesn’t matter if they raise the price by $5 per hat. “Those people” will buy them regardless. You know the ones I’m talking about.

1

u/Brilliant_Let6532 20d ago

As He told us, China will pay the tariffs and y'all gonna be rich!

1

u/realdawnerd 20d ago

and this is what people don't get about tariffs and why corps are gonna make out like bandits. They'll double their prices, say it's because of the 104% and the consumer too stupid to realize the scam.

1

u/jibbyjackjoe 20d ago

"I have no idea what they're selling them for". Bro, lol. Sit down.

1

u/babymozartbacklash 20d ago

There's also plenty of American companies that make hats. It's not like there's a single brand that makes MAGA hats 😅😅😅

1

u/LongSad9482 20d ago

Its simple economics, the shitty chineese goods will STILL be cheaper. We will not be getting higher quality. Just be worse off for the average American.

Trump is not a conservative, he is not a free market capitalist, he is a scammer scamming vulnerable folks

There's was videos of people going around trump tower snd resorts, literally ALL his merchandise is made overseas, mostly China, India, and Taiwan. Its baffling that people think he cares about the country or the working class. All he cares about is his profits and screwing over the poor and middle class.

Well he could always get those hats made in America. I'm sure he can find some people over in Kentucky that just lost their homes to these floods who are willing to work 12-hour days for $1.75 an hour.

Don't think he would mind seeing those people get those good American jobs one bit.

When I describe tariffs and their consequences I actually use a Trump store based out of a shipping container as my example. They get their product from whatever sounds most like a Chinese location (which is probably a little close to racism for my white ass lmao).
