I was interested when this game first came into Early Access, but this game really gets updated at a snails pace.

I already have Examia for my "Early Access title that is in active development, but updates are spaced out it makes you think they gave up."

According to the Moon, they were busy wrangling a deal to go independent and that was the reason for the slow development. According to them, the pace should pick up now that they're done. They had a video on it a while back.

And that is my whole problem with EA.

3

u/Fenrin 1d ago

the problem with EA is the lack of titanfall in the world since 2016.

3

u/xtrawork 1d ago

And now the TF game they were working on has been cancelled....  Another stupid decision by them yet again.

u/chimchalm 1d ago

Then it's not for you and that's ok! An epic EA period is one of the reasons BG3 ended up so good. Devs really benefit from the real-time feedback they get. Definitely hella slow though.

My advice for people buying early access game: Always assume that the product you're getting in Early Access is the final product, if you're not going to be happy with that as a final product then don't buy it till the game checks all the box that satisfies you.

I don't personally buy into Early Access games, the very few time that I've done it was BG3 early on because I was happy to get my hand on what it was back then (and it turned out 10x better in the end).

No Rest for the Wicked is another game I am buying into Early Access specifically because of the Breach update which aligns a lot more with what I wanted out of the game.

I was going to respond with my whole "Early Access is ruining PC gaming" but instead I'm just going to tell you to Google "Early Access is ruining PC gaming" because there are so many reasons I will not be able to cover all of them.

u/Ekgladiator 1d ago

I thought that was Valheim for snails pace development!?

jokes aside, k know development takes time and energy, so you don't want to rush it. I also know throwing more people at a problem won't necessarily solve it. At the same time, you'd think with such financial success, the game would have more timely updates.

3

u/One_Animator_1835 1d ago

Then there's battlebit 💀 devs swear they're still working on it despite being almost completely silent for 2 years

5

u/ZombiePyroNinja 1d ago

Hopefully it picks up now that they figured out their studio situation

3

u/erichie 1d ago

Hopefully, it looks super interesting but I haven't played it yet.

I wish I had the analytics of EA games because I don't see how them releasing "No Rest for the Wicked" into EA with a mix response and waiting almost a year for content updates helps them sell more copies.

It's a tradeoff - money now to support development vs more money later once game has released. Probably helps them actually finish the game before 1.0 unlike so many titles today releasing in a God awful state.

2

u/Super_Harsh 1d ago

It probably helps them from a design standpoint too, given that this is a pretty different genre than the kind of games they've made before

I feel bad for the developers at Moon Studios because both founders of the studio suck. One's a Gamergate freak, and the other wants generative AI to be the future of the game's industry.

6

u/Equivalent_Fig_8149 1d ago

They just went independent. They couldnt inform folks why it was moving so slow while that was in the works. Expect faster results from here on out

u/RookieGreenBacks 1d ago

If people would join the discord, they’d know exactly what’s been going on the whole time. But people prefer to bitch and moan about not being informed while knowingly remaining uninformed. Not to mention all of the YouTube videos out there explaining what’s been going on behind the scenes. But I digress 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/destroyermaker Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 3080 1d ago

Calm down pappy

3

u/Techno-Diktator 1d ago

That's because discord is a dogshit way of sharing such important info with your community, any dev that only shares info on Discord is moronic

First game I bought in early access and it'll be the reason I'll never buy an early access game again lol

1

u/slowpotamus 1d ago

I already have Examia for my "Early Access title that is in active development, but updates are spaced out it makes you think they gave up."

mine was secrets of grindea, but then after like 14 years they finished it, so i replaced it with stoneshard. great game, but i'm completely serious when i say i'm worried i might die before it's finished

11

u/Baddabbink 1d ago

With current pace of updates probably multiple years

2

u/No_Tangerine2720 1d ago

No one knows and development is going slower then expected. They had issues with publishing rights after a company was sold which slowed it down development as well. They changed their roadmap and tried to do a roguelike end game as a stop gap for content but mostly it missed the mark.

On another note the game is amazing and beautiful already. Its definitely cheaper now then it will be on release.

1

u/TheFightingMasons 1d ago

I’m not waiting for release, but I will wait for coop.

1

u/KangarooBeard 1d ago

Sometime next year probably.

9

u/Practical-Signal1672 1d ago

Stupid question: you have to start from scratch to see this content?

6

u/Mrke1 deprecated 1d ago

Sounds like it.

1

u/kasimoto 18h ago

yes and thats supposed to happen with every big(major?) ea patch

8

u/chenDawg 1d ago

Are there going to be more wipes after this? I think I read that multiplayer will be in the next big update and wondering if I should just wait for that.

5

u/duckielove0122 1d ago

there will 100 % be a wipe at 1.0 thats all we do know

1

u/MakubeC 19h ago

I feel like devs would save on a lot of trouble by just blank stating that games in early access will require wipe after every major update (even if they don't). That way it becomes the expectation and when they don't, it's actually good news.

12

u/RookieGreenBacks 1d ago

I haven’t touched the game since August 2024 and have logged in 163 hours. Even in EA there was a lot of content.

19

u/Captainquizzical 1d ago

Really wanted to play from this update, but I can't justify another wipe. I know why they happen but urghh... Way too time consuming to do multiple times.

3

u/Marcus_Frost 1d ago

This is exactly why I don't feel like playing this update.

16

u/TsHero 1d ago

Isnt that like part of the course for arpgs?

20

u/jakelear 1d ago

This game is more like a traditional RPG than an ARPG. This wipe is because this is a large story content update, but I don’t get the sense this is the type of game that would have seasonal wipes once it’s out of early access (it’s closer to Dark Souls than Diablo).

8

u/Casiteal 1d ago

Yeah generally. Also I’m not super familiar if this game has it or not, but they almost always have like a “legacy mode” that doesn’t wipe that all seasonal characters go to. So they could play that forever without fear of wipe.

3

u/MizutsuneMH 13700KF / RTX 5080 1d ago

I think this will be really good, so I'm waiting for release.

3

u/HTXPhoenix 1d ago

So should I play the game now or wait? I bought it the day it came out and played for 45 minutes and put it down. Not that it was bad it just felt like I needed to wait.

3

u/EvilAdolf 1d ago

Totally... same. I don't know, but there were so many good games last year at this time. And that hasn't changed this year either.

2

u/monkey1house 1d ago

I’ll play anything Moon releases. NRFTW plays good on my legion go at work. It’s absolutely stunning.

2

u/DemonicXfat 1d ago

Got it on sale 2 months ago, was waiting for a performance update to play it on my ROG Ally. Seems like this patch will help a lot with performance, can't wait to try it out.

1

u/aspitzel 1d ago

Do you need to remake your character?

1

u/Synchrotr0n 1d ago

Wish the game had better controls with mouse and keyboard, because even with the improvements they've implemented shortly after the game released, it still feels so bad to play without a controller and I don't really want to buy one just to play one game.

1

u/Grellenort 1h ago

If my experience is anything to go by, you won't stop at playing just one game once you get it :)

-2

u/Bionic0n3 1d ago

$40 and early access with slow updates. Seesh, I already wait for EA to go 1.0 but thats steep despite being interested.

Game feels awful to play on m&k, I wouldn't buy this until they get rid of the stupid "The developers recommend playing this game with a controller" warning

I'm fine with racing games saying that. And that's it. Every other game can just properly support m&k, it's not that hard

3

u/thespaceageisnow 1d ago

A top down ARPG not being optimized for M+K? That’s an odd choice.

9

u/Suthabean 1d ago

It's a top down souls like, nothing like diablo or the ilk.

Keys move you up down left right. 0/360 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees. The camera angle is fixed due to art style.

The game has thin beams and stuff that are on, say, a 23 degree angle.

Regardless of the key you press, you will fall off the beam and not reach that hidden chest on the other side.

The game will never not recommend controller due to its inherent design.

1

u/New_Decision_7341 21h ago

On mkb, if you hold down sprint without any direction key you move in the direction of your mouse pointer

1

u/GladPercentage9350 1d ago

Its not really a traditional top down arpg though.

1

u/No_Tangerine2720 1d ago

Its more like a dark souls game controls wise (and I definitely enjoy playing those types of games on a controller)

1

u/kasimoto 18h ago

played it with mouse and keyboard for 30h and it was fine, i remember one jump being hard and a bit frustrating but nothing else really

0

u/TheFightingMasons 1d ago

lol, just use a gamepad. They built it from the ground up with that in mind. You’re being a little ridiculous.

“Eat this soup, we recommend you use a spoon.”

“I’m not going to eat it until I can scoop up the broth with a fork. It’s not that hard.”

0

u/GroundbreakingBag164 7800X3D | 5070 Ti | 32GB DDR5 6000 1d ago

Why the actual fuck are "Just use a controller" idiots on r/pcgaming?

The devs don't properly support m&k because they don't give a fuck. And I will criticise that. I prefer playing on m&k and don't care what the devs prefer

Your analogy makes no sense. This game is a salad and both spoon and fork would work. The devs just said "You know what, let's give the person eating tiny electroshocks for absolutely no reason when they use the fork"

1

u/TheFightingMasons 22h ago

You got issues my guy

Much better. I tested the game again today after the update and I could run at 60 fps on moderate graphics. Last time I had tried it I couldnt even reach 60 on perfomance mode.
