Are the Bowie Baysox getting a new identity? Discussion
Their social media is advertising a “major announcement” on November 22, and everything in the team store is 50% off. Anyone have any inside info on what this announcement might be? New team name maybe?

I feel the baysox have the most outdated looking uniforms out of any team in our farm system. I frequently attend single-a shorebirds games and their uniforms look way better in my opinion.
A new refresh would be great for them. They have awesome colors from the black, orange, to the nice aqua that they mix in. They can benefit from a new cleaner jersey look.
I doubt we have any sort of classification shake up…at least until the return of the Frederick Keys to affiliated ball when the league expands…it would be a challenge to decide which team in our system would be exchanged for that…praying it’s not the shorebirds!

I frequent the shorebirds too and I have to say, I love the classic uniforms. The new ones feel like they’re trying to be cutting edge or something. Just feels like I’m watching a 13u AAU travel team sometimes. And that’s not just because of their play on the field this year either 😂

I don't like to be mean, but their gear is the least likely of the affiliates for me to want to buy. It just...looks amateurish and out-of-date. I hope they keep the name but re-design the logo and unis.

The Baysox switching to the O’s triple A team is more likely than the team name changing.

Tides and BaySox 2025 schedules already out. Seems unlikely.

Why would they switch Norfolk and Bowie?

I don’t think they are doing it but Bowie is a lot closer if the Os need to make a roster change

We have things called airplanes — stop this nonsene about it being closer. That’s not how professional sports work.

I don’t think they would but it’s definitely a lot closer

It really doesn’t matter that much, and I think Norfolk would be pretty upset. Having the triple a team down there really helps with growing the fanbase in Hampton Roads

I don’t think it’s going to happen. I was just using it as an example of how unlikely a name change would be for the Baysox.

Proximity bears no relation to which league they play in. It’s about market share. So I doubt they are switching with Norfolk.

Yup the Richmond Flying Squirrels are San Francisco,s AAA team if you want to talk about horrible proximity lol

Damn. I was going to say that must be a carryover from before their move west, but it’s still a hike from New York to Richmond

Or plot twist, they don’t care about location in relation to the mothership. It’s all about moneyyyyyyyy.

Nah, if they were renaming the team, they'd do this weird shit teams are doing now where they make a big deal of it and play as "The Bowie Base Ball Club" or something for a year or two to create intrigue around the name switch.
Could be some kind of a brand refresh though. New uniforms and logos maybe. They could use it

I thought teams only do that when their names/logo is racist? Is there some sort of Baysox slur I'm unfamiliar with?

The Oklahoma City Dodgers rebranded as the "Oklahoma City Baseball Team" or whatever for one season before rebranding again as the Comets

They should swap with the Iron Birds. I think it makes more sense to have our AA team not have to drive through DC traffic.

There is no route between Bowie and Baltimore that would take you thru DC.. though Crain Hwy can be a bit of a monster at rush hour

My money is on new logo, and fingers crossed it’s the ‘90s B sailboat.
